Keeping a Scarf in Place Helps you Stay WARM

Folks as the weather turns in many parts of our country thought sharing this would be a good idea.  You've seen folks constantly adjusting their scarves, flipping it back around their neck because it won't stay put.  I do something similar to do, but haven't seen a good photo or description to share.  If the scarf stays put, one is warmer....it's not just because it looks cool.  You do need a scarf of a good length to be able to do this...but thought you might like to give it a try.  Sandie P our good friend from Louisiana posted this awhile back on Facebook and I thought it worth sharing.

Speaking of scarves and a good length...........have you checked out the scarf tab?  PLEASE folks make sure your scarf meet the requirements for size, both in width and length.  Remember we do not make or donate scarves for toddlers.  Teens and adults need larger scarves then school age children.

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated. The Power of One is awesome, and when we work together The Power of One becomes The Power of Many.

Sunshine and Knitting Donated from Florida to Ohio

Thank you Sandra R from Florida for this awesome donation of knitted goodies.  AND for including the extra sunshine both are appreciated.  Folks we've had some dreary days so getting good pictures is becoming difficult.  Please click to enlarge so you can see all the wonderful things Sandra knitted and donated for our Ohio Homeless and others in need.  Mittens of varying sizes and colors always makes me clap...special thanks!  Lots of hats to fit lots of different sized heads.  Great color selection too.

Thank you Sandra for tagging all your goodies with size, well done indeed.

She's also included cowls plus a picture of how they can be worn.  Awesome idea.  Do check this out folks.  Cowls, gators, neck warmers...I never quite know what to call them, or if they are the same or different?  But, wanted you to see what she enclosed so took an additional picture.

Sandra knitted six of these.  I tried one one to get the idea...awesome.  I think I'm going to make a few copies to send along and to explain to the folks at the shelters so they know to tell folks they can wear them that way.  I'm not sure if they would know?  Have you all seen this idea?

Crocheted Donatons and Personal Care Items, Thank You

The coloring is off again today on this photo, but...I now know why.  This is my new camera and right after shooting this photo the message came on the battery was exhausted.  I get exhausted sometimes too, lol.  Anyway, it apparently was fading when the photo from yesterday was taken and I didn't realize the situation.  It's now being charged.  It's the first time since I got the new camera I've had to charge it so I didn't realize.  Love the camera.

Click to see the detail in the scarf our good friend, RoseMarie crocheted.  I love the texture!  Very pretty.  Someone's really going to love this hat and scarf set.  RoseMarie has also donated personal care items, and 3 crocheted cotton washcloths.

Many thanks RoseMarie for your on going support!  Keep up the good work.

Crocheted Donations from Pennsylvania Help Ohio's Homeless.

Thank you Margaret E from Pennsylvania for this thoughtful donation.  Nice soft scarves and a couple of matching hats.  Nice for both the men and women in need.  Margaret is our newest pair of helping hands.  Thank you Margaret for joining us, it's greatly appreciated.

No sure why this photo is so dark, the room wasn't plus I lightened it a bit using the photo software here on the computer.  There are several shades of gray's above with the blue and gold.  The picture doesn't really show the colors well.

Welcome to the group, keep up the good work, hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond, Margaret E.

Loomed Hats Help Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Ella G for this thoughtful donation of knitted hats.  Ella is our newest pair of helping hands.  Welcome to the group Ella, we hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.  Ella knows about cold winters, she's from Michigan though attends school in San Diego.  Wow, talk about opposite weather conditions.

Folks tags are really nice.  When I receive donations without size, I have to guess what size you made, and after I guess and put it in the adult or teen or child bag for delivery....the volunteers at the other end have to guess again when they shelf items.  When you cast on, you know what size you're making, or intending to make so please end the guessing and tag your hats, mittens, and slippers.  Tags can be store bought...you can buy a whole bundle of those little white tags with string attached, the can be scraps of paper tied with yarn or pinned with safety pins.  The tags above are some sticky labels.  It's the first time I've seen these so someone who's used them a lot will have to fill us in about where to get them and or how well they work.

Donating Hats and Scarves Keep Ohio's Homeless Warm

Victoria P from Arizona....YOU get the aware for awesome tags.  I think if you all click to enlarge the picture, you'll see why I say that.  She's tagged the items with size (nudging you ALL to please please do that), and she indicates it's washable yarn.  Scarves don't need to be tagged with size and when donated it would be paired with the hat which is nicely sized...but truly a super job here.  Love the pattern/texture in the rose colored hat....very nice.

Donations for the Homeless to Welcome in September

Thank you Marie P from Tennessee from your donation of knitted hats and socks!  Very nice indeed.  Love the colors in the green hat towards the bottom of the picture.  Socks are always needed by all the shelters, as well as our men out on the street.  Please keep up the good work.  Always a pleasure to see you here on Bridge and Beyond.

Goodness, I can't believe today is September.  I for 1 am not at all happy about the quick passing of time, the beginning of fall.  Nope, not at all.  I know with fall here what lies ahead is a nasty winter.  I dislike winter more and more with each year I age, and I am ever grateful to have a roof over my head.

You all may have noticed it's been awhile since we've had a post every day, that's because donations are down.  Typically they do fall off during the summer months and I try to keep things active with other information here; but even with that this summer we had fairly large gaps of no new posts.  Hoping with Labor Day Weekend here, which signals for most of us back to school, end of summer, fall and football; that people will welcome yarn back into their daily activities.

I'd like to push once again for people to visit, to read, and to COMMENT.  Those are all things you can do even when time is short to knit or crochet.  It does indeed help the blog and it's placement.  If you don't comment, we don't know that you've visited, or read new information.  You do not need to be a blogger to comment.  You do not need to be computer savvy to leave a comment.  It's fast and it's easy.  PLEASE, take time to read the tabs of the items you're making so the items you make and donate comply with the guidelines.

Happy Labor Day one and all, if you're traveling be safe

Folks if you missed yesterday's cute video about yarn and our yarn stashes...please scroll back and have a look.  It's quite humerus.

The Motherload of Afghans, a Happy Donation

Todays, Happy Post. Some of you may know about the month long challenge to post what makes us happy for the month of August.  Today, I'm posting from the corner of Happy Road!  I recently met Cindy and her daughter Rebecca half way between Cincinnati and Columbus.  Rebeccah had too many afghans to mail and so we agreed to meet half way.  I'm supper happy to get to meet donators face to face.  That to me is real bonus.  So, that's my first happy.  Here they are after we loaded the car with the goods.
You're going to have a hard time picking which one of the afghans you like best!  I know I did, but, maybe the first one because I like the way the blues and greens play off each other?
Cindy made us a ripple, and EVERYONE loves a good ripple ghan.  Such happy colors.
Maybe you like the bold contrast between the colors and black and white that are so striking in this one?
Or the richness of these jewel tones?
And for the softer, sweet side, doesn't this look cuddly and inviting!
The warmth of green with this bold broad stripes could be just the ticket....
Or wait, maybe this change yarn colors when you run out of yarn....LOVE this one.  Wonderful way to use up the ends of skeins.  And I might add, what an awesome job Rebecca did with working in her ends!
Or maybe this one, that reminds me of a box of crayons, all bright a cheery.
Hold on now.....Turquoise, truly one of my favorite colors in an awesome Log Cabin Style Ghan...
A design in contrasts might be your choice.

A couple of knitted hats from the loom and a scarf.....don't leave yet
I have yet another one to show you!  Can you believe it!  This girl doesn't eat, she doesn't sleep, she's got a crochet hook in hand at all times.  NOT....she's a student, and she has a job.  Well done Rebecca, we're thrilled to have you with us, amazed by your productivity, and are blessed to have your on going support.

What a dynamic duo we have here, Mother and Daughter!

Thank you Cindy and Rebecca, it was a pleasure meeting you both.  So folks that's my happy post for today, I'm happy that I got to meet this Mother and Daughter Team, I'm happy that these helping hands are here to help us help others.  Talk about HAPPY!!

Click the happy badge and join us in the month long challenge.  Each and everyday gives us something to be happy and grateful for.  Tell us what makes you happy.  Join us here at Bridge and Beyond, help us help others and you too will be Happy!

Donating Personal Care Items and Crochet Cotton Washcloths

Box 1 from our good friend Marjorie M, lots of wonderful personal care items being donated.  The nice little first aid kits...great idea.
50 crocheted cotton washcloths of every imaginable color filled Marjorie's 2nd box of donations.  Wonderful mix of both male and female colors Marjorie.  These are a HUGE hit at the shelters.  These cotton washcloths get used when folks first come into the shelters with little more then what's on their backs for showers, they get used again as families move into temporary housing in the shelters for both showers and dishcloths, and they get used again when moving out packs are compiled when folks transition from shelter living to their permanent housing situation...again for showers and for dishes.

Keep up the good work Marjorie!

Knitted items and other Goods being Donated

Thank you Sue S for this thoughtful donation of knitted hats, scarves, and cotton washcloths, as well as the personal care items you've included.   Nice color mix in all your hand knits.  Sue's hit on something I've not thought about before folks, personal care items for women, tompons and the like.  What a awesome idea.  It's not something I need to deal with, hasn't been for a good number of years and so it wasn't on my radar; but a very needed item.  She asked about this after receiving samples in the mail of said items.

Keep up the good work Sue!

Sharing Happiness

Today is August 1st, wow..where does the time go.  Seems we've barely gotten to enjoy the summer and we've been seeing back to school sales everywhere.  Really dislike seeing them all summer, can't we enjoy summer first.  Clicking on the above picture will take you to a very different type of blog challenge.  It's different because there's no linky, it's different because there's no sign up list.  Never done a challenge without those items, so it will be interesting to see how this works.  It's a very relaxed challenge, lol.  Relaxed and challenge don't seem to even go to together, but the idea is to do it for fun, not to stress.   Here's a cut and paste of One Gals Musing's blog post about it.

Forget Your Troubles! C'mon, Get Happy!

On August 1, this year's August Happiness Challenge begins. The idea is very simple: "Each day in August you are to post about something that makes *you* happy. Pretty simple. And, it doesn't even have to be every day if you don't want it to be. It's a great way to remind ourselves that there are positive things going on in our lives, our communities, and the world."

Really. That's all there is to it. No rules.

I like finding an icon that will make me smile every time I see it for 31 days.

**Apparently we'll just use the comments as a list to visit from.
----------------------------------------------------------
I thought I'd share this here on Bridge and Beyond, because I believe we give happiness with our knitting and our crocheting.  We give happiness to those who receive our items AND it makes me happy to be able to do this.  I'm betting it gives you all who help the cause happiness too.  With that in mind, I'm throwing out a challenge for this month of August, share your happiness.  If you're one that already knits and crochets and donates here, send me a note using the contact form in the right side bar telling me how being a part of this gives you happiness.  In addition, tell one other person...someone you work with, a neighbor, a family member...the best way to be happy is to do for others, let's recruit more happy helping people  If you're not someone who's knitted or crocheted and donated here before, and are here perhaps because of the blog challenge; join us.  Spread the happiness.  If you don't knit or crochet, YOU can still help.  We collect personal care items all year long, take a look at the PERSONAL CARE TAB across the top of the blog, this is something EVERYONE can help with.

Today's the last month of July, so I thought I show you were we are today with where we at this time last year.  I've included the 8 primary things we knit, crochet, and donate which doesn't include all the personal care items, headbands, poncho's, gators and those types of things.  The good news is of the 8 items you can see we've been able to donate more this year then last for 5 of the 8 items.  We're only behind of last years mark, at this time in the year on 3 items, Hats, Rain Poncho's, and Mittens.  Rain Poncho's is hardly worth mentioning, because we're in good shape there.

MITTENS, and hats were in need of beefing up, so if you're undecided about what you'd like to knit or crochet, please direct your attention there.  We have extensive information regarding sizing for hats in the hat tab, along with some patterns.  Though less information, we also have a mitten tab with available information and patterns you might like to use.

Please remember for both hats and mittens, to label your items with the size you made.  Please also pair your mittens by attaching them together.  If you are one who doesn't necessarily use a hat pattern, please take time to measure it using the various charts available and label with the size.

Hats and Scarves Essentials for Ohio's Homeless

Crocheted hats and scarves from our long time friend and fabulous supported Gail B. from Virginia.  Gail B. is a member over at Crochetville, you might know her from there as well.  I love the nice manly solid colors....always a first choice for men we care for through the various shelters and Rae who hand deliveries items when she prepares hot meals for those living out in the element.

AND, special thanks Gail for tagging your hats with size.  I'm trying hard to get EVERYONE to do that, it's important to know what size you all make so I know where the items should be donated.  I really can't try every hat on and quess, so please, please, pretty please tag all your hats, your slippers, and your mittens with the size you knitted or crocheted.

Thank you Gail and please keep up the good work, I know Ohio's Homeless appreciate YOU.

Not the best picture, but it's done folks.  Long last!  Whew, I've been knitting this it seems forever.  It needs to be laundered and blocked yet, but finally Sea and Sand Afghan is done.  It's very large and will be a bit larger once blocked no doubt.

It might be part of fund raiser for Homeless Families Foundation, and it might be donated as we do the others for The Welcome Home Project.

Books for the Soul and Crocheted Cotton Clothes

Thank you Sharon H for this thoughtful donation.  Sharon has crocheted some cotton washcloths, which the shelters all love.  They use them when people first get into the system with bath kits, they use them again in moving out packages where they can be used as washcloths and or kitchen dish cloths.  Sharon has also included some of her books for the book shelf at Homeless Families Foundation.  She hope to inspire some folks and help put purpose back into lives, as we all try to aid with necessary warm items.

Thank you Sharon.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
