Colorful Crocheted Scarves Donated to Help Others

Thank you Ann M for this thoughtful donation of colorful scarves.  Please remember to click to see details with her stitches.  These scarves vary in size and color.  Some will be suitable for the young kids, some teens and adults as well.  Nice variety Ann.  The solid wide green scarf will be nice for men folk.  A little something for everyone here.

Below you see two small baby sized afghans.   Thankfully, we seldom have need for items for the wee ones, so for the time being I'll lay these aside.  I will add to both to make larger afghans, and this will give me a head start to build from.  LOVE the bright pink, lots of possibilities there.  Stay tuned folks, as I'll repost when complete.

Crocheting for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Karen S for this awesome donation.  Folks please click to enlarge the photo so you can see the details.  I've placed the scarf so you can see both sides.  One side is lighter and one is darker.  I LOVE this look and have asked Karen how she accomplished it.  It looks knitted to me, but she explained it's crocheted with a hook on each end of the crochet hook.  It adds such nice texture, and also makes it a bit stretchy it seems to me.

Thank you Karen for this thoughtful donation and for including those super warm socks.  These were delivered last week so I know someone is warmer, as we speak.

Please keep up the good work.

Hats, Scarves, Mittens and More Aid the Homeless

This is a bit of an unusual donation from our good friend Sandra R from Florida.  We knit, crochet and donate...but she found a great sorta end of the season sale so we have some hats and gloves not made by her; but.......they will help someone.  I've separated the pastels out for the teen pile.  In addition to her great sale, she's been busy knitted and crocheting hats, scarves, and mittens.  She the 2nd picture as well.
I LOVE LOVE the nice dark colored hats sized large enough for the men folk.  AND look at the great mittens.  Thanks also for tagging hats and mittens with size, and pairing the mittens together with yarn so the pair stay in tack.

Sandra's generous donation came in two of those large polly type mailing pouches.  I mention this folks, because you often reduce postage cost since the pouches are lighter weight than an equivalent box size would be.

**Would the person who donated red and gray socks, knitted hat and scarf please make contact.  You can email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com, leave a comment here on the blog, and or leave a note using the contact form here on the blog.**

Crocheted Hats and Scarves help Homeless

Thank you Patty C for this wonderful donation of crocheted hats to warm Ohio's Homeless.  What a nice variety of sizes and colors she's included in her crocheted donation.  She's also included 3 crocheted scarves.

Hats and scarves are used here in Ohio probably 11 months out of 12.  Even in the hot summer months, nights can be cool and  damp and a scarf and hat can truly make a person more comfortable, when living out in the elements.  Homeless are often more cold than we are, even during warmer months, because their nutrition isn't good, and food is fuel that helps warm the body.  So please, even as you see things warm up a bit folks....keep up your needle work.  Remember, we here at Bridge and Beyond knit and crochet and donate all year long, not just when it's nasty out.

Thank you for all you do, and please keep up the good work.

**Would the person who donated red and gray socks, knitted hat and scarf please make contact.  You can email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com, leave a comment here on the blog, and or leave a note using the contact form here on the blog.**

Donations for Bridge and Beyond to Kick off 2017

These wonderful 7 adults scarves are beautifully crocheted by Ann M.  I love the colors, so suitable for both men and women.
These cute scarves are also from Ann for the kiddo's.  Remember folks all pictures on the blog can be clicked to enlarge the picture so that you can better see the details in the thoughtful and beautiful donations for Bridge and Beyond.  Please keep up the good work.
These 3 hats and 2 scarves are wonderfully made by an anonymous crafter.  LOVE the hat style that rolled brim because they're extra warm.  The scarves are crocheted and the hats are knitted, I believe on those round looms.  Remember folks you can be anonymous here on the blog (if you choose), but you can not be anonymous to me.  If you wish to remain anonymous here, simply tell me that in your note with your donation.  It's important, for several reasons that I am able to get ahold of you, the thoughtful donors; and thus I do need to know whom you are.  Thank you for your note and your gracious donation.
This lovely donation of slippers is from our good friend Paulette J.  Be sure folks to click to enlarge so you can see all the fun styles and colors she's used.  Special thanks for tagging each lovely pair with size, it's so greatly appreciated.

As always please keep up the good work and know how many comfy pairs of feet you've made with your wonderful donation. (Thank you also Jane B for mailing this wonderful donation)
------------------

Thank you all for your donations, for your visits to the blog, for your blog comments, for your visits and comments on FB as well.  It seems most of the folks I've heard from liked our method of posting the previous years numbers and subtracting our current donation from it, so I will continue that method again this year.

On the previous post are final numbers for the last several years, if you've not gotten a chance to review them.  My apologies for the sliding chart, as it didn't look that way when I made it on google docs or when I'm embedded the code.  I was out of town after posting it without my computer so didn't have a way to change it to make it more readable.

Numbers for 2016:
Hats  514 (which was 46 over the previous year)
Scarves 370 (which was 174 over the previous year)
Mittens 108 (which was 15 less then the previous year)
Slippers 91 (which was 14 less then the previous year)
Rain Ponchos 211 (which was 106 over the previous year)
Cotton Washcloths 236 (which was 218 less than the previous year)
Afghans 36(which was one less than the previous year)
Socks 135 pairs (which was 66 pairs less then the previous year)

The day I left town I photographed donations from anonymous, Ann M, and Paulette J so that I could blog about them when I arrived at my destination.  However, that proved to be not possible.  I had the pictures on my phone, but couldn't load them from the phone to the blog.  I emailed them to myself and tried to load them from my ipad, which was also a bust.  Frustrating that it doesn't work like it does from my computer.

Sadly, these donation have been waiting til my return to get posted here, and share with you all.

Many thanks for your patience ladies, it's much appreciated.

2016 Donations:
HATS: 514-3=511

COTTON WASHCLOTHS: 236

****donations that arrived while I was away were delivered yesterday by my friendly and ever caring postal worker from: Dee Ann H, Gail B, Emily K, Sandra R, Patty C, Carol W, and anonymous, please stay tuned as I catch up from being away for 3 wks.****

Crocheted Infinity Scarves and More

Thank you Karla T for your thoughtful crochet donation.  Kara has crocheted a hat, 2 scarves, and 4 fun mobius/infinity scarves.  The green infinity (top center) is such a perfect color combination for this time of the year.  Not sure I've seen that variegated combo before.  Definitely looks like fall.

Many thanks Karla and please keep up the good work.  You've made an important difference in the lives of those who will receive your donation.

Donating Crocheted Scarves

Thank you Susie J for this thoughtful donation of scarves and infinity scarves/mobius scarves.  Cute pattern!  Please click folks to see the details bettr.  I have layed these aside for the time being rather than including them in our regular deliveries to homeless shelters. I think they are more suited for some special areas...with the lacey look and light colors,  I think some ladies forgotten at a nursing home would truly love these...and or perhaps some teens in need, but not necessarily homeless.  Can't you see the smiles as someone wraps this around their neck to know that someone hand crocheted these specially for them!

I'm going to check with Rae, our friend who prepares hot meals for those in need to see the best usage.

Many thanks for your thoughtfulness, please keep up the good work.

Special Delivery for Homeless

Thank you Nikki S for this thoughtful donation of goodies.  Nikki's crocheted hats, scarves, and a shawl.  She's also included personal care items in her generous donation.  Having a warm hat and scarf really is important in the fight to stay warm when you're homeless.

Special thanks Nikki for hand delivering your donation, as well as your friend Christina's donation.

The weather has indeed turned making donations very much needed.  We still have sunny pretty days, but nights and early mornings have gotten cool and it won't be long before we'll have frost on the ground.  So please to have people like Nikki helping those in need here on Bridge and Beyond.  You all are so very much appreciated.

Crocheted Hats and Scarves for Ohio's Homeless Donated from New York

Thank you AnneMarie from New York for your on going support of Ohio's Homeless through your generous donation to Bridge and Beyond.  Love all the variety in your hats, both with size and color.  You and your crochet hook must not sleep!

AnneMarie's crocheted and donated hats and scarves with this donation, AND she's taken the time (thank you very much) to attach the sizes to the hats!!  Attaching tags for size helps lot of folks beyond just me.  It also speeds up getting the donations to the right people because it saves me time sorting and guessing size and it saves the volunteers at the various shelters.

Please keep up the good work.

2016 DONATIONS:
Hats:       220 -20 = 200
Scarves:  118 -3 = 115
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers:   79
Slippers: 77
Rain Poncho's:   +106
Cotton Washcloths:  316
Afghans:    13

Cowls/Hoody Combo's, headbands:   8
Shawls and shrugs, ponchos, sweaters & vests etc 0
Misc: items like personal care, headbands etc and things don't fit into above categories aren't counted.

Please note the category of shawl, shrugs, ponchos etc has reached our little goal, same as last year of 1.........but please please please.........don't let that stop you from making more of these items.  Likewise note we've definitely reached our goal for rain poncho's.  Rain ponchos's serve many purposes so we will probably still need some....down the line, but not for awhile.

Afghans Give Hope and Warmth

Look at this very pretty cheerful afghan our good friend and long time supporter AnneMarie from NY crocheted and donated.  It's gorgeous!  Such a pretty afghan and makes me think of sunshine and spring...oh come on Spring.  Afghans provide warmth for sure, but they also provide hope for a brighter future and congratulations on the next phase of your life to our families through Homeless Families Foundation.  As most of you know, families receive afghans when they transition from shelter living to a permanent housing situation.

AND she's been busy knitting and crocheting hats, scarves and fingerless gloves!  Awesome donation that will reach many people in need.  Thank you AnneMarie for your thoughtfulness, your ongoing support of Ohio's Homeless and your generosity.

Many many thanks for all you do for Bridge and Beyond!  (And folks, keep checking in, there's more)

I'm listing our end numbers from 2015 and will subtract our current number as means of keeping our goal in front of us.  I'll show the goal number in Red.  Let's strive not just to match last years numbers, but.........work towards even more.

Donations and Throw Back Thursday

Throw back Thursday, something started long ago in the blogging world has been adopted and used on Facebook.  I'm not sure how old I was in this picture, have to go look at the year.  It's a class picture of me way back in the dark ages.  I think I was perhaps in the 4th grade?

The picture has nothing to do with Bridge and Beyond, but since it's Thursday, I decided to that because I sadly don't have a picture to share of a generous donation from our friend and long time supporter Sue S.  I've been having "issues" adjusting to my new computer, transferring pictures and not being able to find them afterwards.  This windows 10 is very different it seems to me from my old Vista (what was that 3 or 4 operating systems ago).

Sue donated 2 scarves, 6 cotton washcloths, some always needed personal care items including those chemical hand warmers,  a hat and a handband.  I wish I could show you.

Thank you Sue and please keep up the good work.  Folks as I write this blog post it's 25 degrees, that's the warmest it's been in about a week.  Yesterday morning when I got up, it was 3 and really warmed up to 8, by the time I had to leave the house.  Please keep our homeless in your thoughts and prayers and do what you can with you knitting needles and crochet hooks.

I'm going to try something a little different with keeping our stats.  I'm listing our end numbers from 2015 and will subtract our current number as means of keeping our goal in front of us.  I'll show the goal number in Red.  Let's strive not match last years numbers, but.........work towards even more.  Thank you for all you do.  As time goes on, we won't see the year end numbers, we'll see the previous goal and subtract the new donation from it.  Hopefully we'll find this helpful and not too cumbersome...if so, we'll return to our previous format.

2016 DONATIONS:
Hats: 444 -1 = 443
Scarves:186 -2 = 184
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers: 123

Thank you Beth G for Helping The Homeless

Thank you Beth G for this wonderful donation for Ohio's Homeless.  Beth has crocheted scarves, and cotton washcloths and has included socks and personal care items as well.  Even though we have finally warmed up here in Ohio during the days, the nights are still cool, and we still have some of the wet dreary weather difficult for the homeless to contend with; soooooo please don't stop knitting and crocheting folks.  The need does indeed continue through out the year.  And, when we might reach a point where folks are currently in need, we then stock up all the various shelters and Rae, so they are always  prepared.

I want to thank all the new visitors supporting us through their visits and thoughtful comments from The A-Z challenge and am thrilled some of our new friends are busy and knitting and crocheting and or looking to see what they might do to help, either here or in their own areas.  We need to continue to spread the information about the severity of homelessness and spread the news about what can be done throughout our country.

Crocheted Hats for the Homeless

Thank you Marsha M from Ohio for this awesome donation of crocheted goodies.  Marsha's been very busy crocheting hats in lots of different sizes and colors and styles.  And I think some are knitted too?  Correct me on that Marsha.  There were both?  She'a also included some scarves.  Though we've recently experienced some warmer temps and most of the snow has melted, we're now into the gray wet period so these nice warm items are still very much needed and appreciated.

The worry of frost here in Central Ohio typically isn't until Memorial Day, so we still will have plenty of cold nights.  The calendar says it's Spring in March 20th, a week from now, but the signs of spring I rely on are seeing the pussy willows starting to open...which they hadn't when I took a walk the other day, and or the blooming of the yellow Forsythia bushes.  And they haven't even started to bud yet......plus there's the whole we always get one more snow after the Forsythia bloom.....so to my way of thinking...it will be a while until I'll be dancing in the streets because it's Spring.  It's all a process.

2015 Donations:

Hats: 101+17=118
Scarves:31+2=33

Donations to Help Homeless Men

Yippee for donations for men!  Several days I delivered donations for men, women, and children to Homeless Families Foundation, but for ever bag for men were 3 or so for women.  Please remember the group most often forgotten is the men.  The bulk of homeless living out in the elements are men, both adult and teen.  Please also remember the last homeless person to get a night at a shelter will be man, and they are turned away each and everyday when there's not enough room, and there's hardly ever enough room.

Thank you SSeger for this donation suitable both in size and color for our homeless men.  Even her cotton washcloths are appropriately colored for the men.  LOVE the pattern in the nice brown scarf.  Such awesome texture.  Click to enlarge folks so you can see the details.  What stitch did you use?

Thanks also SSeger for tagging your hats with size!  It is such a huge time saver for many people and takes the guess work for me, as well as those who volunteer at the various shelters.

Please keep up the good work, and thanks so much for your on going support of Bridge and Beyond.

Crocheted Donations from Georgia

Thank you Dianna K for this thoughtful donation of personal care items, crocheted scarves, and granny afghan.  This is part of Dianna's generous donation.  Please stay tuned for the remainder.
Remember we break larger donations up to have fewer pictures per post, fewer items per picture so you can better see donations, and to help the blog with more regular blog posts.  Trying hard to get back to daily blog posts to aid the blog with it's placement.  That's become even more more important with comments falling off.  These four solid colored scarves are all made in the ever popular ripple style.  Everyone loves ripples!Thank you Dianna for these nice solid colored long scarves.  Colors appropriate for both men and women.

Please keep up the good work!

I'm wanting you all to encourage each other by commenting on each others work, thus the need to see things better.  However, in recent weeks......we're running into a technical problem.  I have NEVER enabled those awful captcha's.  I personally hate them, find them hard to see and so have always chosen not to use them on ALL my blogs.  For some reason I've not been able to determine, even though it is NOT enabled on any of my 5 blogs, people are all of sudden having trouble making comments.  It seems from those I've asked to test it, that people who blog do not have trouble, they do not get the captcha's, but those that are not bloggers are and some aren't able to see or hear them properly........therefore our comments are much lower...in fact, they've almost come to a dead halt which is very disturbing and hurtful to the blog.  I am continuing to investigate, but if anyone out there has a clue..........please speak up.  In the past people could use name and url, leave url empty if they didn't have a blog etc....now some are needing to sign as anonymous and add their names in the text of the comments.  I check my spam folder constantly for fear some of those anonymous comments will be directed to the spam folder.  But, in the meantime folks, PLEASE continue to try to leave comments on each others work.

Please stay tuned folks for totals.  All items received prior to the end of 2014 will be tallied in that year, even though the posts will appear in the year 2015.

If you're traveling for the holiday, please be safe folks.

Crochet Donations Aid the Homeless

Thank you Beth G for this wonderful donation of crocheted for Ohio's Homeless and others in need.  I love how nicely sized these scarves...people will truly be able to wrap up in them.  Thank you too for the darker colors, which work for both men and women.  She's been a busy beaver with her hook.
Beth has been a faithful supporter of Bridge and Beyond, and we certainly appreciate all of her efforts.

Please keep up the good work, Beth.  Stay tuned for additional donations from Beth folks.  Remember, larger donations are divided to minimize the number of photo's per post so you're all able to better see the work of caring volunteers, and to help us with more regular blog posts.

As we're nearing the end of yet another year here on Bridge and Beyond, please stay tuned for totals.  All items received prior to the end of 2014 will be tallied in that year, even though the posts will appear in the year 2015.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
