Thank you Tara B for this donation of 12 pairsof socks! Let me back up a bit. A while back Tara had a brilliant idea. Instead of shopping buying socks to add to her crocheted donations; she would set up a repeat order on Amazon and the socks would be shipped to me.......she pays no shipping costs that way as well. I thought it was a wonderful idea.
So the first shipment came, I took a picture and somehow when it was being transferred from my phone to the computer it vanished. (please scroll to previous post with more info on this. It's happened twice recently, and I don't know why.
Then her 2nd shipment came so I photographed them both together. Still had the 1st package having not yet put in the bags for delivery.
Tara tells her mother Lara about Bridge and Beyond, and Lara who taught Tara to crochet decided she would join in. She crocheted this traditional ripple, always a favorite. This is sc back stitch, which is how you get the awesome texture. I LOVE this, it reminds me of my Mother, because she taught me to crochet back in the day how to knit and crochet. A nice memory. AND I love the primary colors she used, so bright and cherry.
She also crocheted hats, and headbands. And she included socks and some personal care items with the her donation.
Lara M. is our newest pair of helping hands. Thrilled to have you join us and please know that you are making an important difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Many thanks, and please keep up the good work.

Knitted and Crocheting and Keeping Homeless Warm
Thank you Sue S for this thoughtful donation. We have some personal care items, some cotton knitted washcloths, knitted and crocheted scarves and scarves and headbands.........AND a rain poncho! Whew...you've been busy. Folks click to enlarge to see details (you know you can always do that here on the blog), did you see something new and unique in this donation? Sunglasses! What a great idea, something truly I have never thought of. Odd to, since I wear sunglasses all year long. But, truly I never thought about that as a good item to donate. Well done!
Folks, it's Spring; but we're still having some very cool nights. As we speak, (well type) I'm sitting here with a heavy sweater on and a lapghan on my lap...so, our homeless friends are still very much in need of us keeping our hooks and needles busy.
Special thanks Sue, for tagging your hats with size. I encourage everyone to do that. It helps us get the donation to the right group; and saves lots of time with the volunteers who work with those in the elements, as well as those in the shelters.
Thank you Sue for your long standing support of Bridge and Beyond, and please keep up the good work.

Crocheting to Warm Those in Need
Thank you Emily K for this thoughtful donation. She has crocheted scarves, headbands, infinity scarves, cotton washcloths....AND has included personal care items with her donation. All wonderful items to help warm those in need here in Central Ohio. Folks, we've had days barely above zero lately, we've had snow, we've had freezing rain. People without a roof over their heads, people living in temporary shelters need our help. Our hand made (knitted, loomed, crocheted or sewed) items really can make a difference. Not only do they help keep someone physically warmer, they give them emotional warm. Knowing someone took time to make something for them is indeed special.
Please keep up the good work folks. You are all so very much appreciated.
If time is tight and you're not able to knit or crochet right now..........or if you're someone who doesn't knit or crochet but would like to help. PLEASE, scroll back to the previous post with information about a Go Fund Me Page and help feed someone hungry.
**For anyone new to the blog, the counting below maybe confusing. When 2016 began, we started with the number of items donated the previous year and are counting down in hopes of hitting and surpasses the number of items donated last year.**

Donations and Throw Back Thursday
Throw back Thursday, something started long ago in the blogging world has been adopted and used on Facebook. I'm not sure how old I was in this picture, have to go look at the year. It's a class picture of me way back in the dark ages. I think I was perhaps in the 4th grade?
The picture has nothing to do with Bridge and Beyond, but since it's Thursday, I decided to that because I sadly don't have a picture to share of a generous donation from our friend and long time supporter Sue S. I've been having "issues" adjusting to my new computer, transferring pictures and not being able to find them afterwards. This windows 10 is very different it seems to me from my old Vista (what was that 3 or 4 operating systems ago).
Sue donated 2 scarves, 6 cotton washcloths, some always needed personal care items including those chemical hand warmers, a hat and a handband. I wish I could show you.
Thank you Sue and please keep up the good work. Folks as I write this blog post it's 25 degrees, that's the warmest it's been in about a week. Yesterday morning when I got up, it was 3 and really warmed up to 8, by the time I had to leave the house. Please keep our homeless in your thoughts and prayers and do what you can with you knitting needles and crochet hooks.
I'm going to try something a little different with keeping our stats. I'm listing our end numbers from 2015 and will subtract our current number as means of keeping our goal in front of us. I'll show the goal number in Red. Let's strive not match last years numbers, but.........work towards even more. Thank you for all you do. As time goes on, we won't see the year end numbers, we'll see the previous goal and subtract the new donation from it. Hopefully we'll find this helpful and not too cumbersome...if so, we'll return to our previous format.
2016 DONATIONS:
Hats: 444 -1 = 443
Scarves:186 -2 = 184
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers: 123
Slippers: 105
Rain Poncho's: 105
Cotton Washcloths: 454 -6 = 448
Afghans: 23
Socks: 201
Cowls/Hoody Combo's, headbands: 12 -1 = 11
Shawls and shrugs 2-1=1
Misc: items like personal care and things don't fit into above categories aren't counted

First Donation of 2016 for Ohio's Homeless
Thank you Nikki S, Deb D, Linda O, and Jason D for this awesome donation to start off our new year. Nikki and Deb donated crocheted headbands, scares, cowls, hats, a shrug and a childs afghan. Look at the nice variety. Please click the picture so you can see all the goodies these fine folks put together. Nikki has donated previously, but she reached out to some of her friends and got them involved so Deb, Linda and Jason are all new helping hands! Welcome and thank you for joining Nikki in her quest to help Bridge and Beyond.
Wonderful personal care items were donated by Nikki, Linda and Jason. AND Nikki and Deb included yarn.
The combination of everything in this donation will serve many people. The sanitary napkins is something that's always in short supply at the various shelters. Soap, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes round out the personal care items.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?
I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.
Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
