Donating, Doing Good for the Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for this awesome donation.  Look at all the variety folks.  Barbara has been a long time and generous supporter of Ohio's Homeless here on Bridge and Beyond.  So happy she's been with us for so long.

Barbara has crocheted hats, and scarves, including a couple of matching sets.  She's also included a bright colored mobius/infinity scarf, cotton washclothes, and some personal care items.  Awesome, all items will be greatly appreciated by those who receive them.

Thank you Barbara for taking the time to tag each of the hats with size.  That's a HUGE time saver and helps assure hats get properly separated to get to the people who need them.

Keep up the good work, and as always know how much good YOU are doing!

Crocheting and Warming Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for this thoughtful donation of crocheted scarves and hats.  I love the variety of color and sizes in the hats, and that you added size tags to them.  Notice too folks there are 2 hats that match the scarves so we have lovely sets.  The green hat and scarf has wonderful detail, please click to enlarge the picture folks so you can see what I mean.  I believe the stitch providing so much interest and texture is the popcorn stitch?  I like the look, but have never enjoyed making the stitch, lol.  It is super think and squishy.

Many thanks Barbara for your long time support of Bridge and Beyond.  Ohio's homeless benefit from your dedication.  Please keep up the good work.

Caring for Homeless in Ohio Through Crochet

Thank you Barbara F for this wonderful donation and your long term support of Bridge and Beyond.  We truly appreciate all your efforts.  As you can see, Barbara has been busy with her crochet hook.  She crocheted, hats and scarves.  What a fun scarf the black and blue mix is.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you can see the details.

Special thanks for tagging all the hats with size.  What nice looking tags you made.  It really jazzing up the item, doesn't it.  Makes it look more like a gift.  Really lovely.

AND look at the personal care items.........specifically the female products.  There are never enough female products for women in shelters.  Many thanks for your thoughtfulness, Barbara.  Please know you are making a difference is the quality of someone's life.

Warm Crocheted Hats for the Homeless

Our first exciting donation of the year, 2018!  Super warm (double thickness) crocheted hats from our good friend Barbara F from New York.  Nice color selection, people the women will enjoy not only the comfort, but the style of these crocheted donated hats.  Barbara has added nicely made size tags to her donation.  The size tags aid the volunteers at the various homeless shelters.  Many thanks Barbara for your dedication to Bridge and Beyond, your truly appreciated.

Folks, we're going to try a new counting system for this year.  Please notice all the goal counters in the right sidebar, as well as the one centered above this post.  I will probably rotate the one centered above this post (just started with Afghan, as it's an A and the start of the alphabet.  Doing so, seems to help the spacing with our new formatted blog.  The numbers I've used for our goals for the coming year, are the averages of our last 5 years of donations.....you'll see that number when you look at the chart by clicking on the stats link below.

If you've not had a chance, please read the posts about our Stats, as well as the post about how we can help the homeless and others in need.  There really are many ways of helping, when perhaps you're too busy to knit or crochet; as well as ways of helping if you're not a knitter or crocheter.

Also, don't miss our impressive list of whom to thank!

Crochet Donations Warm Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for this wonderful and thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies.  LOVE the stitches you used in these scarves and matching hats.  AND special thanks too for tagging the hats with size.  That is very helpful, and appreciated by me AND the volunteers at the various shelters.  Barbara has also included a nice stash of personal care items.  Looks like our long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond, Barbara F has been traveling and saving up her hotel samples.  Great way to donate.
AND look at this very nice afghan/lapghan.  Blue is a color that works for anyone, male or female.  Very nice detail with the stitch selection and the corner to corner design.  Many thanks Barbara for all you do.  Whomever receives this will be thrilled.

Please keep up the good work and know you make a difference in someone's life.

Thank you!

Crocheted Ladies Hats Help Warm those in Need

Thank you Barbara F for this awesome donation of ladies hats!  Several different styles here folks, do click to enlarge the picture so you can see the styles.  Special thanks for tagging the hats with size, so very much appreciated by many people.

Folks when you click to enlarge, please notice what Barbara used to tag these has.  She's simply used colored paper, cut in circles and tied the tags on with yarn.  I wanted to point this out, as some folks have asked how.  Some purchase the little white tags that have string, that works great too.  Some have used index cards cut in shapes.  The tags don't need to be fancy but, I would like to ask that you not use paper clips, tape, straight pins, or safety pins.  All those have to be removed for safety and can cause problems with the fraying the yarn.  Taping a note doesn't present a safety problem, but it also doesn't work, as it doesn't stay attached.

As always Barbara, many thanks and keep up the good work!

Crochet Afghan Donated to Homeless Families Foundation

Thank you Barbara F for this lovely corner to corner crocheted afghan.  What great colors, suitable for male or female, adult or teen.  Wanted to show you two views so you could get a good look at it folks.
And don't be mislead by that bit of sunshine coming in the window.  It's been in very short supply here in Central Ohio.  We've had two mornings in the last week that were 24 and 26 degrees when I got up in the morning.......so the sunshine is truly misleading on the weather.

Thank you Barbara for this thoughtful donation.  Whatever families receives this beautiful afghan at Homeless Families Foundation will be thrilled.

Please keep up the good work.

Diagonal Crocheted Afghan Donated

I LOVE the colors and design of this crocheted afghan.  The afghan crocheted on the diagonal is really interested.  This awesome afghan was crocheted and donated by our good friend, Barbara F from New York.  The size and colors of this ghan make it suitable for either men or woman.  I believe she's used a shell type stitch.  These are colors that will fit in with almost any decor, in my opinion.

Please keep up the good work Barbara, and again many thanks for your thoughtful donation.  The person or family who receives this will be very happy...and warm.  Surely they will feel the love that went into the making of it.

I'm hoping for maybe another round of Indian Summer, but I'm afraid it's official, summer is truly past and fall and the cold winter loom ahead.  Cold, wet conditions are so hard on folks without a roof over their heads, please do what you can to help our homeless friends.

Crocheted Donations and Personal Care Items Important Donation for Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for this thoughtful donation of warm goodies for our homeless here in Ohio.  Barbara has been busy, she tells me in her note that the colder it gets, the more she crochets.  Perfect!

Barbara has been busy crocheting scarves and hats.  She's also included much needed personal care items.  Folks, a couple of weeks ago I posted that one of the most overlook items for shelters in feminine hygiene products, so am pleased to say Barbara has included some in this donation.  I can't imagine what that's like, to be cold, to want a bath and be in need of personal hygiene products.

Keep up the good work Barbara!

Donations Help the Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for your thoughtful and generous donation of hats, cotton washcloths, yarn, cowls, hats and a shawl.
Thank you for taking the time to tag your hats with size, it helps save time both here at my house and again at the various shelters.  Love the colors in the shawl, what a pretty combination.  Someone will be really happy to receive it.

Please keep up the good work, Barbara; we're thrilled to have you among us here on Bridge and Beyond.

I'm wanting you all to encourage each other by commenting on each others work, thus the need to see things better, which is why I'm including fewer things in each picture.   However, in recent weeks......we're running into a technical problem.  I have NEVER enabled those awful captcha's.  I personally hate them, find them hard to see and so have always chosen not to use them on ALL my blogs.  For some reason I've not been able to determine, even though it is NOT enabled on any of my 5 blogs, people are all of sudden are having trouble making comments.  It seems from those I've asked to test it, that people who blog do not have trouble, they do not get the captcha's, but those that are not bloggers are and some aren't able to see or hear them properly........therefore our comments are much lower...in fact, they've almost come to a dead halt which is very disturbing and hurtful to the blog.  I am continuing to investigate, but if anyone out there has a clue..........please speak up.  In the past people could use name and url, leave url empty if they didn't have a blog etc....now some are needing to sign as anonymous and add their names in the text of the comments.  I check my spam folder constantly for fear some of those anonymous comments will be directed to the spam folder.  But, in the meantime folks, PLEASE continue to try to leave comments on each others work.

Please stay tuned folks for totals.  All items received prior to the end of 2014 will be tallied in that year, even though the posts will appear in the year 2015.

If you're traveling for the holiday, please be safe folks.

Crocheting for the Homeless

Sorry this picture is so dark folks one of the last one I tried to take just before the warning on my camera said the battery was exhausted.  The booties/slippers in the upper left corner are a pretty dark purple which is hard to see in this picture.  Many thanks to our good friend Barbara F for this thoughtful donation of crocheted slippers, hats, and cotton wash cloths.
AND.......personal care, more pretty crocheted cotton washcloths and a scarf for our homeless and those in need here in Central Ohio.  LOVE the blue green cotton, reminds me of the beach which sounds really nice right now with frosty cold nights.
Barbara is very generous with her time and talent, more lovely hats!  And all so nicely tagged with sized.  Special thanks for that Barbara, please keep up the good work.  We're thrilled to have your support here on Bridge and Beyond.

**Posted a donation a few days ago from a Carol C, whom I still very much need to be in contact with, please if you know this person, or are this person and are reading this blog, make contact with me with the contact form in the right side bar, or a comment here on the blog, or a comment in the group on facebook, and or my personal facebook page.  I've tried for a couple of weeks to make contact, but need your email.**

Donations from Barbara F

Apologies if you made it here this am, before I got the post finishef folks.  I had the picture and the count and a note to myself to finish the post.  Barbara F has donated a vareit of hat styles, please click to enlarge the picture so you can see the details better.  Different sizes, different colors and different styles.  She's also donated scarves and cotton washcloths.

Many thanks Barbara, please keep up the good work.

As I edit this post, it's snowing......yes AGAIN!  It's currently 23 degrees, but feels like it's 13.  I've been lucky enough to escape the cold and snow for a bit, traveled with hubby for business and then we added a few days at the end of business to relax and it was so nice to be where there was nice weather.  The snow mounds from plows etc are now about 4 feet high here to give you a feel fr the amount of snow that's piled up.

Please keep the homelss, and those without proper heat living on the edge during this very difficult time of year in your thoughts and prayers and do what you can with your needles and hooks.  They don't really have a way to escape the conditons.
**Stay tuned for donations from: Karen J from Illinois, Sandra R from Florida,  B. Torio from Ohio, Brenda H from Texas, and Sue F from Ohio.

Crocheted Donations from the Heart Warm those in Need

Barbara F has crocheted and donated hats, scarves and a mobius along with personal care items she collected on a recent trip.  Nice color and size variations on the hats Barbara, many thanks!

She's also included a re-useable swifter cover for me.  Wasn't that sweet!  I wanted to share it with you all.  Click to enlarge the picture, it's the pretty orange in the middle.  Also, you can see the photo of how it works.  Thought I'd share this idea with you all.  If you're busy making gifts for the upcoming holidays and need ideas.......this is a great one.  What a wonderful stocking stuffer it would be.  Need a couple items on hand for a last minute exchange.........why not whip up a couple of these and have them at the read.  Great idea Barbara, many thanks!  I love being environmental friendly so this surely beats buying those packages of cleaner pads to put on, use once and throw away.

Crocheted Donations Always Make Me Smile

Thank you Barbara F for your thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies and personal care items, AND yarn!  Very nice.  We appreciate your on going support and know your donation will be well received.  Barbara was recently on a business trip and saved her soap, shampoo's and lotions etc from her hotel room...that always a nice way to donate personal care items.

Keep up the good work Barbara!

Where does time go folks, goodness the month of June is flying by.  We're still having some cool nights and mornings here, not at all typical for this time of year.  We've spent alot of time opening and closing our windows, putting on fleece until the chills leaves in the morning...so do hope you're all still busy knitting and crocheting.  If you've not yet had a chance to make slippers...there's still time, please check the slipper tab for necessary information.  AND remember you can make slippers other times as well, not just for this month that it's a focus.

Bags for Donated Afghans.

I wanted to let you all know the bags we've talked about before have been found, ordered and are here!  You may remember our good friend, Barbara F sent a donation in these nice zip lock style bags with a handle awhile back.  I liked the bags so much asked her about them and she graciously sent me several boxes, HERE.  I searched around here to find where I could get them with no luck, searched on line with no luck and she did some marvelous detective work with the store where she had originally purchased them.  Though they were no longer carrying them, she was given a link to order them on line and have them shipped to the store.  She passed along the link to me and I was able to order them.  It took awhile (several weeks), to get the whole thing done; but the wait was worth it.

We're using these bags for our afghans.  The bags are 20.5 x 17 inches, are heavy duty so nice and durable.  Not only does it make it easier for me to deliver the afghans to Homeless Families Foundation; but it makes it easier for them when packing up Welcome Home Packages.  They can see if the ghan is more child or adult oriented, as well as whether it's more male or female oriented.  It keeps the afghan nice and clean, and gives the family means of storing it during warmer weather.  A letter from Bridge and Beyond accompanies our afghans wishing them well and gives them laundry instructions. (you can see how they present in this post)

This whole process took several months, thus my excitement at now having the bags at my disposal.  Thanks so much Barbara for all your help.

Each box has 12 bags, and each case had 6 boxes, and I got 2 cases; so am well stocked now with 144 bags.

Love Team Work!

Pretty and Practical Donations for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Barbara F for this very thoughtful donation.  Cute headbands, and hat and a circle/mobius/infinity style scarf.  Very nice.  Barbara's also sent us some really nice plastic bags.  Look at the bag the yarn is in..These are zip locks, large ones with a handle.  These will be perfect for our afghans that are donated to Homeless Families Foundation.  A nice bag to carry them, to keep them clean, and to see them so when selections are made for family x y z, they can see the colors etc.  I think it bumps up our presentation a notch are too.  Many thanks for finding these Barbara.

And look how pretty the Lion Brand Homespun is.  I think I can probably get two scarves out of this....then again it might work well with some I  have on hand for ghan........hum, time will tell.  Rest assured it will get put to good use.

Please keep up the good work.

*Please remember to tag hats, mittens, and slippers with the size you've made.  The above white tags work well, but you can also cut index cards and attach.*

Donations from New York will Warm Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Barbara F from New York for this thoughtful and colorful crocheted donation of hats, scarves, headbands, and slippers.  Very nice.  I particularly like the color combination of the orange hat; and the slippers are made with double thickness yarn something I'm really in favor of.  The double yarn makes them obviously warmer, thicker, and more durable!

Please keep up the good work.

Have you joined the facebook group yet?  If not, please do.  I post daily there the names of those who've sent boxes as my friendly mail carrier delivers them, and always a link to the post here of the day.  We're working hard to attract more helping hands.  Help us spread the word.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
