Thank you Annemarie D from NY for this thoughtful and colorful donation. Annemarie's been busy with her crochet hook making matching sets of hats and scarves. She's also included a pair of fingerless mitss that match the bright multi-colored hat and scarf set.
Many thanks Annemarie for your on going support of Ohio's Homeless here on Bridge and Beyond, and please keep up the good work.
We're having high winds here in Central Ohio today as I type this post. The temps are actually nicer, though I'm sure that's short lived and the winds are nasty...no doubt making those living out in the elements cold and in need of warm lovingly made donations.

Afghan, Scarves, Socks, Hats, and More Donated
LOVE this fun afghan. Look at all the colors...bits of this, bits of that, solids, and variegated colors. Truly a little of everything. So fun, so bright, and very cheery. Thank you AnnaMarie from New York for this delightful crocheted afghan. When I opened it, it really made me smile.
Keep scrolling folks, after making such a fun afghan, she's not done. 3 Wonderful scarves in this picture. I'm particularly fond of the green one in the middle. I love how the shading changes. Must be one of those new cakes of yarn that do that........very nice. Scarves are nice and big/long so folks can really wrap up to stay warm. She's also included 13 pairs of socks to help keep feet warm and dry. AND crocheted cotton washcloths. Everyone loves the cotton wash cloths. So many uses. Wait...scroll some more.
More crocheted cotton washcloths, more socks, another wonderful colored scarf, hats and fingerless gloves. She has been very busy with her crochet hook. Whew...rest up now AnnaMarie...Many thanks for this wonderful donation of crocheted goodies to help Ohio's Homeless through Bridge and Beyond.
Please keep up the good work.

Crocheted Warm Items Help Homeless
Thank you Emily K for this thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies. As you can see, Emily has been busy crocheting hats, scarves, mittens, and fingerless gloves! You all know how excited I get when we get mittens. Really nice Emily. Love how many different head sizes you've made warm with this donation. Particularly like the hat on the right with warm orange and earth stripes!
Emily has also included some personal care items, AND batteries. Folks batteries are always needed by those living out in the elements for things like flashlights; though it's not something I've asked for in the past. Batteries are heavy and I was concerned about the weight issues and it making postage more costly; but.........they are indeed an item that is needed and appreciated.
Many thanks Emily, please keep up the good work.
2016 DONATIONS:
Hats: 200 -8 =192
Scarves: 115 -2 =113
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers: 79 -4 = 75
Slippers: 77
Rain Poncho's: +106
Cotton Washcloths: 316
Afghans: 12
Socks: 184
Cowls/Hoody Combo's, headbands: 8
Shawls and shrugs, ponchos, sweaters & vests etc 0
Misc: items like personal care, headbands etc and things don't fit into above categories aren't counted.

Please note the category of shawl, shrugs, ponchos etc has reached our little goal, same as last year of 1.........but please please please.........don't let that stop you from making more of these items. Likewise note we've definitely reached our goal for rain poncho's. Rain ponchos's serve many purposes so we will probably still need some....down the line, but not for awhile.

Afghans Give Hope and Warmth
Look at this very pretty cheerful afghan our good friend and long time supporter AnneMarie from NY crocheted and donated. It's gorgeous! Such a pretty afghan and makes me think of sunshine and spring...oh come on Spring. Afghans provide warmth for sure, but they also provide hope for a brighter future and congratulations on the next phase of your life to our families through Homeless Families Foundation. As most of you know, families receive afghans when they transition from shelter living to a permanent housing situation.
AND she's been busy knitting and crocheting hats, scarves and fingerless gloves! Awesome donation that will reach many people in need. Thank you AnneMarie for your thoughtfulness, your ongoing support of Ohio's Homeless and your generosity.
Many many thanks for all you do for Bridge and Beyond! (And folks, keep checking in, there's more)
I'm listing our end numbers from 2015 and will subtract our current number as means of keeping our goal in front of us. I'll show the goal number in Red. Let's strive not just to match last years numbers, but.........work towards even more.
2016 DONATIONS:
Hats: 394-15=379
Scarves: 179-2=177
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers: 110 -5=105
Slippers: 104
Rain Poncho's: 105
Cotton Washcloths: 444
Afghans: 19-1=18
Socks: 201
Cowls/Hoody Combo's, headbands: 11

Wrist Warmers, Fingerless Gloves
Modeling with one hand and photographing with the other hand, sorry folks, that makes for not the best picture. These are wrist warmers, recently designed by our good friend, and long time supporter, RoseMarie. She has made them in past using double crochets and I asked if she (she's sooooooooo creative), could mess with the pattern and come up with one using sc? And here you have the results. I thought the single crochets would make them a bit more sturdy and warmer.
Mittens is something we've never gotten enough of, in terms of our donations. And while wrist warmers obviously aren't as warm as full mittens, I thought it might help us bridge the gap. Mittens aren't the easiest to knit or crochet and not something many of us have the ability to do. However, I think this is something many of us can do.
Turning my hand over so you all can see the other side.
Here's the pattern:
Chain 24 and join to form circle, being careful to not twist your chain.
Add marker so you can tell where the end of the row is, adds in counting rows.
Row 1: sc (single crochet) across to the end of row, do not increase, do not add extra sc when you would normally add when to go to the next row. Stitch count remains 24.
Row 2: Repeat row 1 until 27 rows are complete. Stitch count is still 24, no increases done.
Row 28: Form the thumb opening
sc across 20 stitches (4 stitches remain), chain 4 and join this chain to the end of the row. Your chain 4 and the 4 remaining stitches are equal, and your stitch count is still 24. No increases or decreases made.
Row 29: sc across row (stitch count 24) You will sc into the 4 chain stitches at your rows end
Row 30: repeat row 8 more times (a total of 9 rows from forming your thumb opening).
After completing row 37, bind off.
Using a darning needle work your tail in.
RoseMarie used an I hook in this example. It very nicely fits me. I'm a small woman.
Using a larger hook would make the wrist warmers larger, using a smaller hook would make them smaller. Would think we could play with adding a few stitches if we want to fit a man. Using too large a hook might make them less warm, as they would be more open??
Thank you RoseMarie for your dedication. You are a AWESOME.
Yarn used, regular worsted weight.

So many ways to warm those in need.
24 Squares/rectangles crocheted in every color of the rainbow and then some! Thank you Brenda this will be added to others and I'll post designs of ghans that will warm those in need at Faith Mission. I'm seeing a stained-glass window look perhaps with these....must add the others and see what I come up with. (sorry the picture is a bit blurry, I must have moved). These squares are due to our Give a Square Project.
Thank you Brenda for these 10 crocheted pairs of fingerless gloves. They will aid folks, and I know be appreciated. Had hubby photograph me wearing a pair...those are my hands so you all can see how these work. Can't remember if I asked you what pattern you used. There are times I wouldn't mind having a pair of these myself. When driving, and sometimes working on the computer when I'm cold.
Brenda is a fellow Ohioan and our newest pair of helping hands. You can see her helping hands have been busy. Here are 11 crocheted scarves of various sizes and colors. Some of these will be perfect for the younger ones at the clinics and or Faith Mission, and some are wonderfully sized for the Mothers.
Hats, Hats, Hats. Again lots of sizes and colors, some suitable for children, some appropriate for adults. Fabulous, and cute crocheted hats. Click to enlarge so you can see some of the great detail Brenda added.
Photo's taken and blog posts written and in que for donations from: Minnisoda, Sandie from LA, Eve, Phyllis, Stephanie, Trudy, Sally, Sarah S, Marie Anne, and Amy. Please check back and enjoy the pictures of their lovely donations.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?
I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.
Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
