Lola and Yarn Bombing, Bridge and Beyond Style

Not to make light of the sad situation of Homelessness, but.....we knitters and crocheters can always use a little laugh to keep us going.  Spotted this the other day in my email from Lion Brand and thought it was cute and worth sharing.  Love the play on words about yarn bombing.  Oh Lola, she's such a joker!

Ok.........this gives me an idea.  We've not had a contest here in quite awhile.  How bout everyone actually do some yarnbombing...Lola style ( you knitting or crocheting, holding yarn) and email me your pictures.  We'll display them here on Bridge and Beyond.  Each person who participates gets an entry into the yarn bombing photo contest and a name will be drawn the winner.  Take your pictures through the end of the current month, May, and on June 1st we'll announce the first winner.

On June 2nd, I'll post all the pictures so folks can vote for the photo they like best for yarn bombing and that will be the 2nd winner which will be announced on June 10th!  Quick, go mark your calendars, I'm doing the same so I don't miss the dates I told you.

Rules for the Contest:

  1. One entry per person (email me 1 photo of you yarnbombing).  My email for this contest is: SandyBridgeContest1@gmail.com
  2. Entries can begin today May8th and run through May 31st
  3. Winner will be announced here on the blog on June 1st
  4. Once the winner is announced you must email me, at the special email addy listed above your snail addy and whether you're a knitter or crocheter or both.  Deadline June 4th.
  5. If response hasn't been received by June 4th, then a 2nd drawing for the winner will be announced.
  6. All entries will be posted (without names) on June 2nd for voting.
  7. Voting for favorite yarn bombing photo runs from June 2nd through June 9th.
  8. Winner for favorite photo announced on June 10th.
  9. Winner of photo contest must email snail addy to me by June 14th, along with whether you're a knitter, crocheter, or both.
  10. If no response by June 14th, the runner up will be announced.
The Prize...........Yarn of course!

  3. That is a funny cartoon. I’ve seen some pretty creative real yarn bombing, but only once in person. In Cape May NJ there was a “mystery” bomber who would leave her “art” on trees in one of the parks. It made the local newspaper. I had to take the hour drive down to see it. There was quite a controversy over whether it was vandalism or art.
The contest sounds like fun :)
Just wanted to let you know I’ve been by every day. Guess I’ll have to stop lurking and speak up :)

    1. Yeah, there are mixed emotions about stuff left on trees, while kinda novel, it doesn't seem the best of use of yarn...in my opinion, I'd rather see someone make something warm and get it into the hands of someone in need. Thus Lola style holding up yarn, or knitting/crocheting and photo bombing someone appeals to me.

  5. Love the contest, but will have to wait on it. I went camping and my hands are unbearable right now. Cracks all over... stupid me didn't wear gloves to work on gadgets and I'm paying for it. I can't imagine the homeless bearing the pain of Winter's chapped hands. I bouncing back from the A-Z.

    1. I know exactly what you mean Katy. Being outdoors is hard on the hands, and I use cream like crazy even being indoors and washing my hands often, can't imagine how much dryer and chapped theirs must be.

But...an idea just popped into my head...lol...lets see if I can do it by the end of the month. Katy I hope your hands get to feeling better. MARJ you are right we should have God Bless our homeless.

  10. Sounds like a good contest! I used to do some knitting, but haven't for ages. Might be a good hobby to pick back up again as the materials etc. are small enough to fit on our boat and travel trailer.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking. Told hubby about your blog and will send him the link, I know he'll enjoy your information about both the boat and trailer and the lust for traveling. Hope you'll join in on the fun with our contest.

  11. This will be an interesting contest. Sounds the best way to yarn bomb. I just never understood why take the time to knit something for a tree. I want my time to be used to keep people warm. I will be looking forward to seeing all the pics.
I love seeing the Lola cartoons.

    1. Totally with you, I don't really like to support the other type of yarn bombing, to me it seems wasteful and it can be destructive.

  12. That is a funny comic. One always needs humour...it is a way to cope with the sadness and make us feel better. It bring joy and optimism so I am all for a good laugh. Can't wait to see the pictures. I will now try to e-mail you. I am not in good shape today so I hope I can do it correctly

    1. Lola's version is just photo bombing but with yarn. Others though cover trees, signs, fences, etc.

    2. Mrs. 4444, tried to leave a comment on your blog, but am unable to, it's only open to Disgus, Google+ and Facebook sign in's. You're probably limiting comments and followers on your blog with those restrictions.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
