Crocheted Scarf from Louisiana Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sandie P, our good friend from Louisiana for super warm chunky crocheted scarf.  I love color, very pretty.  Despite it's being pretty, it's quite suitable for a man or women.

Sandie, as most of you probably know has been a long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond and Ohio's homeless.  I know some of you may remember she and I became acquainted way back during Katrina, in a charity to benefit those folks.  So with all the hurricanes currently in the news, it makes me think of how long we've known each other.

Thank you Sandie, for your long time support and please keep up the good work.

Crocheting in Louisiana Benefits Homeless in Ohio

Thank you Sandie P from Louisiana for your thoughtful donation of crocheted scarves and a hat.....and thank you for your long time support of Bridge and Beyond and Ohio's Homeless.  Love the blues in both scarves.  Blue works for everyone, male or female...young or not so young.  A good versatile color.  The nice dark hat will keep another head warmer, and dryer.

Believe it or not, we've seen the weather turn already.  Most of last week we had temps that only reached in the low 60's...even during the day.  I fear fall has come early.  We have warmed up this week, but ...watching the squirrels, I think we're in for a long hard winter that experts say will be colder and wetter than normal.  It also seems like it might come earlier than normal.  Those squirrels are preparing a lot more than I've seen in recent years.

Keep your yarn, your knitting needles, and crochet hooks busy folks.

As always, Sandie, please keep up the good work.

Crocheted Scarves to Wrap up the Homeless In

Thank you Sandie P for long standing support of Bridge and Beyond and Ohio's Homeless.  These 4 gray crocheted scarves are soooo soft.  What yarn did you use?  These neutral colored scarves will work for both men and women; both because of their color and their nice large size.  Love nice big scarves because you really can wrap up to keep warm.

As always Sandie, thank you and please keep up the good work.

Folks...have you been watching our goals??  We're moving along nicely.  Most notably is we've past the 50% mark on afghans!!  YIPPEE, that's particularly nice because we were considerably lower last year in that area.  Very cool to see this number growing.

AND another number I'm finding fun to watch is 1925.  With this post, that's our number.  That's how many blog posts we've had here on Bridge and Beyond...only 75 away from our 2,000th blog post!  I think that's pretty exciting.  We've been at this awhile gang.

Colorful Crocheted Scarf for Homeless

Thank you Sandie P for this colorful and very soft scarf.  I love these colors.  What's this yarn called?  Sandie is a long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond.  We appreciate your dedication to the cause over all these years.  For those who may be new to reading this blog, Sandie and I met working together on a different charity YEARS ago...Katrina hit her area and she organized a charity to help people during that time, so you know how long ago that was.  Sandie and I have known each other here on line for all those years.

Thank you Sandie P, as always keep up the marvelous work.

Two Toned Crocheted Scarf for Ohio's Homeless

Fun....look at this two toned scarf.  Our good friend Sandie P from Louisiana crocheted this using the same method of friend Karen S uses, Double Ended Crochet, Cro-hook.  It goes by many names.  I've posted a u-tube video several times on this method.  It intrigues me.  It's one stitch, but the shading gives it such texture...makes it look like more was done.

Thank you Sandie for your long term commitment to Ohio's homeless.  I've lots track how many years we've known each.  I say that, even though we've not met face to face.  We've blogged, participated in many of the same groups and charities throughout the years and well after after years of doing that...you do feel like you know someone.

As always keep up the good, and thanks so much.

Crocheted Scarf Warms Homeless in Need

This nice red crocheted scarf is super thick.  I'm not sure if it's double thickness or a very bulky yarn?  It comes off the crochet hook of our long time supporter, Sandie P from Louisiana.  I love the color, such a pretty shade of red.  It's nice and big so whomever gets this can wrap it around a couple of times for added comfort and warmth.

Many thanks Sandie for your long term support of Bridge and Beyond and Ohio's Homeless in need.  This red is such a good color and works well for men or women.  I also love how soft it is.

Many many thanks for thinking of us here in the cold.  We appreciate you, your talent, and your longevity.  Keep up the good work.

**The counts on our progress bars are current, the percentages not quite. I'll not be figure the percentages with each update of numbers, but will be updating again next at least by the 20th. I have in fact made a reminder not on my cell phone for the 20th of each month to do percentages. If we're at a milestone, or I just have extra time I may do it more often...but certainly at that scheduled time.

Crochet Scarves Help Warm Homeless in Need

Thank you Sandie P for these two interesting scarves.  I love the fun colors.  This is a type of yarn that changes folks vs changing yarn and tucking edges.  Oh how I love that idea.  Would knitting or crocheting with this yarn be fun in making an afghan?  Well...really in anything, but I think especially in an afghan where you really don't know when it's changing on you.  Sandie says this yarn is Yarn Bee Sugar Wheel.  I've not seen it at the stores, but am going to make a point to look for it..........like I need more yarn, lol.  Sandie says it comes in 7 oz skeins and has lots of different color combinations to pick from.

Sandie has been a long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond, perhaps the very first one.  If not the first pretty close to that from my memory.  Thank you Sandie for your longevity.  Folks you can pop over to Sandie's blog, it's listed in my blog list on the right hand sidebar.  She's posted several variations of this fun yarn with recent projects.  Check it out.

Crochet Hats Warm Homeless

Five awesome hats from our long time supporter and friend, Sandie P from Louisiana.  Not sure what type of yarn Sandie used in these hats, but it's particularly soft, and thick.  These hats will be nice and warm.  And gray is a color good for anyone, male or female.  Gray doesn't stand out in a crowd, which is very important to most homeless people.  They don't like to call attention to themselves.  Sadly, part of that reason is for self protection from both police and thugs.  Special thanks too Sandie for tagging your hats with size.

Tagging hats, mittens, slippers with size is important.  Each item we knit or crochet get's separated here at my house, and again at the various shelters so volunteers can get the donated items to the right people.  Tags don't have to be a work of art, but please do include them on each item.  You can use these little white tags with string like Sandie has done above, or scrap paper attached with yarn.  I've seen some cleaver folks cut squares or circles with pinking shears to make their tags.  All work!  Please do not use safety pins, or paper clips, or sticky labels to attach size.

Many thanks Sandie for your long time support of Ohio's Homeless in need, please keep up the good work.

Pictures of Donations for the Homeless After Being Hacked!

If you read yesterday's post (and if not PLEASE PLEASE do), you know I was hacked and have been without the ability to use my computer and post for sometime.
To give you an idea of what wonderful donations have been pending.  I'm posting these pictures, which will all be discussed in subsequent blog posts.
As note in yesterday's post, some pictures were stuck on my computer without my ability to get to them, others stuck in my camera without the ability to load them anywhere.
Almost all of these wonderful donations had already been bagged for delivery.
A few have come while I was working through the issues.
And, as we'll be catching up....thought you'd enjoy seeing all these wonderful knitted, crocheted, and loomed goodies!

Our weather here as already started to turn.  August in fact might have been one of the coldest I can remember.  Ohio August's are always referred to as the dog days of summer.  Not this year.  The last several weeks of the month we had many mornings with temps in the 50's, which is just crazy.
And now for the last month, we thought we might have what in this area is referred to as Indian Summer....once the kids get back to school it gets super hot.  NOPE, that didn't happen either.
While we've not had frost yet, we have had lots of fog that last several mornings.  Could barely see out the window this am and it didn't clear til around 10:30 am.  Strange weather indeed.  Though mind you, we're not having floods, or hurricanes, or tornado's or earthquakes, or wild fires and for that, I am very grateful.
The fabulous donations are from:
Melinda G, Emily K, Sandie P, Sandra R, Connor W, Karen S, and Joy D.  Not necessarily in that order folks, just reading from notes.

Please know all your donations are very much appreciated.  AND please keep coming back to the blog to see the blog posts with your goodies.

Again Thank you all for your patience.  AND again, if you didn't read yesterday's post PLEASE do.  I want you all to be informed.

Also folks, thought it was time for a new look so have changed the layout, and theme/color of the blog a bit.  Hope you like it.

Warm Scarves Help Ohio's Homeless Stay Warm

Thank you Sandie P for your ongoing and long time support of Bridge and Beyond and Ohio's Homeless.  As I type this post I can say, I'm wearing a wool sweater, the heats  on and we've had our first frost.  Sigh.........the weather has turned cold, and skies have become gray.

This soft and warm scarf will be a definitely plus in keeping someone in need warm.  The color was so close to my carpet color, I decided to toss it on a chair so you would actually be able to see it, lol.  Tan on tan didn't show up well in the first picture I took.

Please keep up the good work Sandie.  You are very much appreciated.

**For anyone new to the blog, the counting below maybe confusing.  When 2016 began, we started with the number of items donated the previous year and are counting down in hopes of hitting and surpasses the number of items donated last year.**

Crocheted Hats and Scarves

Thank you Sandie P for this awesome crocheted donation of hats and a matching scarf.  The scarf is nice and large, large enough to wrap around twice for real warmth!  Hats and scarves, you just can't get enough of these items for the Homeless and others in need.  Even in summer months warm items are needed for those living in the elements at night.  While we're currently experiencing warmer than normal temperatures for this time of year, we've also had some pretty heavy duty rains which can really make someone cold when living out in the elements.

Sandie P has been a long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond.  Thank you Sandie for your on going support and skillful hands.

Please keep up the good work.

Please note the category of shawl, shrugs, ponchos etc has reached our little goal, same as last year of 1.........but please please please.........don't let that stop you from making more of these items.  Likewise note we've definitely reached our goal for rain poncho's.  Rain ponchos's serve many purposes so we will probably still need some....down the line, but not for awhile.

Crocheted Cotton WashCloths Donated

Thank you Sandie P from Louisiana for this awesome donation of crocheted cotton washcloths.
Sandie has been a long time supporter of  Bridge and Beyond.  She crochets beautifully.  She and I first met after Katrina when she spear headed an effort to aid those in her area who had lost so much.  Afghans were made and distributed in her area.  So, you all know how long ago that was and Sandie has continued to be involved in wonderful charitable works.

Many thanks Sandie, as always, please keep up the good work!

Crocheted Scarves Warm Homeless

Thank you Sandie P from Louisiana for these wonderful crocheted scarves.   The green isn't showing up real well, as it was a very dark and dreary day when the photo was taken........even with lights on.   But, it's really a perfect nice solid color that works well for men or women.  Sandie has been a very long time supporter for Bridge and Beyond, in fact she was perhaps the very first person to donate or one of the first 2...hum, might have to go and refresh my memory.

Great work as always Sandie.  Only thing lacking was sunshine and warmth from your state of Louisiana.  Seriously, I looked hard in the pouch for some; you must have forgotten to include it for us.  Hint hint, wink wink!!

Keep up the good work, please and thanks.

Happy May First Bridge and Beyond

Whew........made it through the month of April and the A-Z challenge.  It took some doing to come up with something for each letter of the alphabet that had something to do with homeless and or what we do here on Bridge and Beyond.  I visited 253 blogs (as of the April 26th when this scheduled post was written).  That is the number from the linky.  Every blog I visited I read the post and left a comment except those that were closed to comments, had to join google+ and a few things like that.  Then I visited those folks in my right sidebar almost daily so no clue how many visits that comes out to.  Currently that blog log is 24 blogs, though the number wasn't consistent.  As soon as someone visited and left comments, I added them to the blog log...so it grew, I visited them back, but after several visits if they didn't visit back I removed them from the linky love blog log list...so it shrank.  Am in need of going through and nixing a few more so it's a current list.

I also visited everyone on my regular blog list at least twice during the month of April, also in hopes of reciprocal visits which didn't really happen.  Many on that list no longer blog, haven't updated in several years etc.  The 2nd time through I deleted quite a few of those links as well as dead links.  I liked having folks on their that had donated, but they've moved on and inactive links actually hurt Bridge and Beyond with regard to SEO, so I felt it was time to clean that list up.

Next up I visited everyone listed with profile pages, ie Ravelry and or Facebook and left private messages trying to encourage blog visits.  That proved not to be worthwhile.  As stated in the paragraph above, many of those pages aren't current.  I will be over the next week re-visited and deleted those inactive links as well.

And...that brings us to today, May 1st.  Nice way to start the new month with this pretty donation from our good friend Sandie P from Louisiana.  Please click to see the picture better so you can see the details in her darling hat.  I LOVE this hat.  It's stylish and quite warm as it has ear flaps.  Sandie what pattern did you use for this?

As always, please keep up the good work Sandie!

2015 DONATIONS:
Hats: 179+1=180
Scarves 67+1=68
Mittens/Gloves/Wrist Warmers: 45

Afghans: 7
Socks: 126
Cowls 12
Shawls 1
Misc: items like personal care and things don't fit into above categories aren't counted

We're still having very cool nights with frost, and temps some days still hover around 50-60, so it's still not warm, if you don't have a good roof over your head.  Please keep knitting and crocheting, the need still exists.

**If you missed any of the A-Z Challenge posts, please please do stop and read them. And it's still not to late to leave comments folks.   My hope is to further educate people about what it's like to be homeless, to better understand the nature of this sad situation.  The more we know, the better chance we have of helping.  I also desperately want to dispel the notion that it couldn't happen to you and your loved ones.

O H I O Buckeye Scarves for the Homeless

O H I O.........Thank you Sandie P in Louisiana for these lovely Buckeye Scarves.  Scarlet and Grey are our Buckeye colors, how perfect is that!  These scarves are crocheted and donated by our good and long time friend, Sandie P.  Sandie's been Bridge and Beyond since the beginning and her long time support is so very much appreciated.    These scarves are nice and fluffy, super warm, and both wide and long enough to truly give someone the ability to wrap up to help keep warm.

The temps have been frigid these past couple of weeks, breaking record lows for this time of the year.  We considered it a real plus the other day when we warmed up to 8 above, as it started out 12- without considering the wind chill.  Believe the weather folks that day the wind chill made it about 34-. Folks, those conditions are truly brutal and very dangerous.  I've recently read about deaths of the homeless as a result.  I'm in the process of putting together the information I can find on the sad subject.  Please keep checking in daily.  We need your support.

Thank you Sandie P, for this thoughtful donation of crocheted hats and scarves for our Homeless here in Central Ohio.  Sandie hails from Louisiana, and is someone you probably all remember as one of the very first people to donate here on Bridge and Beyond years ago when the whole idea began.  I so appreciate Sandie's longevity.

Crocheted Hats for Homeless in Ohio

Thank you Sandie P, long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond for this wonderful donation of crochet hats.  Special thanks for tagging them with size, that saves so many people so much time; both here at my house and at the various shelters where our crocheted and knitted donations go.  Hint Hint...folks if you've not been tagging hats, mittens, and slippers with size PLEASE do.

Sandie P was I think the first supporter of Bridge and Beyond.  If not the first, she was certainly one of the first.  She and I had worked on a charity making afghans for victims of Katrina........if that gives you an idea how long we've know each other.

Please keep up the good work Sandie, and know how much we value your long standing support and talented hands.

These 4 hats will warm 4 people in need, many thanks!

The Things we do for Love

Another awesome scarf crocheted and donated by our friend Sandie P from Louisisana.  Awesome shades of blue, what type of yarn did you use?  I've not seen this mix before but really like it.  This would be well suited for male or female, adult or teen...Nice!

**June is slipper month, be sure to check out the slipper tab above, before you begin knitting and crocheting**

**Email me details of when, how etc you learned to knit or crochet, please don't leave the details in the comments below**

Few days ago, Sandie shared her story of how, when she learned to crochet.  It's a cute story, hope you enjoy it.

I learned to crochet in 1980, in Mississippi, from my cousin's wife Katy and her friend Diane. I used a J hook. From that trip I took away the basics. When I got home, I got yarn and hook of my own, along with a leaflet for how-to. No Internet then. I made afghans for everyone in my family. I only made afghans (large, bed size ghans) for many years.

I started a ripple afghan for my boyfriend (now my husband) just a year or so after I learned. He asked if it could be wider so I made another strip, attached it to the first few inches I'd already done, and continued the pattern forward. The things we do for love. LOL

Hats and Scarves are Donated All Year Long

Love these colors!  Thank you Sandie P, you've done it again with your skilled busy hands.  Sandie has crocheted 2 lovely hats and scarves.  I love how nicely sized her scarves always are, wide enough to truly cover the neck and long enough to wrap multiple times...even up over the mouth and nose if necessary during cold winter months.

As always, Sandie your work is always so nice.  Many thanks for your on going support of Ohio's Homeless.  You are very much appreciated.

It's June folks...hope everyone is busy making slippers.  Knitted and crocheted slippers.  Please consider making your slippers with double thickness yarn, and please use nice tight stitches.  Loose stitches don't hold up well for slippers.  PLEASE read all the necessary information in the slipper tab.  There are also some nice patterns there you can use.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
