Donating Yarn to Help our Homeless

**Had notes mixed up, this donation came from Beth in West, not Laurie as I originally stated. My apologize Beth, just found my note and realized I had flip flop your yarn donations.

donated yarnLots of pretty yarn, soft yarn appropriate for the wee ones here. Can't you see some baby blankets? I sure can, and maybe booties,,,AND more. AND
donated yarnLots of knitted worsted weight yarn here with a rather large selection of colors. This yarn has been donated by our newest pair of helping hands, Beth. I got to meet Beth in person. Had a very enjoyable time visiting and getting to know each other. Thank you Beth. Some of this yarn has already been boxed up to send onto some helping hands low on yarn, and likely I'll use some and be able to pass along some more.

Thank you Beth, was great fun meeting you!

**September is Scarf Month, and we're having another contest.

From now until October 8, I'll toss names into a hat for everyone who donates a scarf for a teen or adult...male or female. Feeling like we need to bump those numbers a bit and will draw the winning name from the hat and send out another box of yarn. Contests are fun. We've had several fun, productive, and successful contests. Every scarf donated for a teen or adult (at least 5 inches wide and 5 feet or longer please), will qualify. **

2011 Donations:

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated, and all donations keep someone warm. We help, one stitch at a time. YOU truly DO make a difference. THANK YOU!

Tons of Textiles, Oh My!

yarnOh poo, this first picture is blurry, didn't realize that when I uploaded it. Sorry about that folks. You see knitting needles, both in the round and DP's (double point), and textiles. These pictures are separate, as the donation of tons of textiles (yarn-fiber), were separated based on the mix. You know, all wool, wool blend, washable wool, wool with silk, alpaca etc.
donated yarnReach out and touch....seriously, I know you want to. Remember the old tv commercial about Charmine Bathroom Tissue, squeeze-ably soft? Sure you do, if you're my age. Doesn't this picture of yummy yarn make you want to do just that?
fiberHang on there's more! Many thanks Tracy F from California for your ton of textiles donation! It will get put to good use. I'm leaving the donated yarn separated as you had it until I decide what, when, and where to create. Though I must say, I'm already thinking about casting on a ghan that would be warm and snuggly for our folks at Faith Mission. Being homeless, even if recently lucky enough to get temporary housing is a sad state of affairs. A warm lovingly made knitted or crocheted afghan out of this wonderful yarn donation of yours, might be just the ticket.
donated fiberLook at this fabulous color combination....Scarves always work, ghans like I said about might be the ticket, but I can also see maybe...shawls from this lovely color combination....Thinking.
stashFabulous Fabulous, so pretty, so warm, so soft. Thank you again Tracy. Tracy decided she needed to do some cleaning out of her stash and Bridge and Beyond is the lucky recipient of her cleaning out.
donated stashAND....how to knit socks books. I've never knitted socks, and keep saying I need to learn. Perhaps this is an omen? lol.

We've had several contests here on the Bridge. One was to celebrate a milestone of 100 or was it 200 posts, and one was due to a mitten challenge. In both cases I gave away yarn. I might tuck some of this aside for another such contest. As you might or might not know, we're currently having a contest for the month of May. Please get yourself involved. You could win a $40.00 gift card supplied by one of our fabulous big hearted donators. CLICK HERE for Details

Lovely Knitted Hats

***Only 9 posts left before we see who the winner of the contest is, but YOU still have time to enter, CLICK TO READ HOW***
knitted hats for homeless11 Lovely Knitted hats for our our homeless and folks in needs. WOW, thank you Sandra. The kids are gonna love these adorable warm hats. I'm particularly fond of the spiral stripes and must look into what pattern that is. I've added Sandra's blog link to our blog log, hope over and say hi. I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit at Thistle Cove Farms was Sandra knits, spins, cooks and many other things.
donated yarnThank you also Sandra for yarn donation. I've already begun knitting with the pink. It's 3 ply, so a bit lighter weight. At the moment I think it's headed to be a baby blanket for one of a couple charities, depending on it's finished size. If not a baby blanket, I believe it would make a wonderful Kidney Kozy.

Many thanks for your thoughtful donations.

Keep up the good work, one and all. Busy hooks and needles and happy hooks and needles; and you know the cold weather will be upon all too soon.

Starts of this and that

this and that and yarnOur good friend Sandie teaches crochet and often needs to make a little of this and that to demonstrate a stitch, a shape, a technique. I'm going to use some of this donation along with some odds and ends from my daughter, and squares from Alma to put together a ghan or two that I hope will work out appropriately for The Pine Street Project. No formulated plan yet, need to ruminate a bit; but will keep you all posted.

Thanks Sandie for the donations of yarn as well.

And, PLEASE take a minute register and vote to help homeless financially, with housing etc; even if you personally don't have the means to write a check.

Donated Yarn!!!!

skeins of yarnHomespun and Bernat Illusions Yarn donated by Dear Bunny. Not 100% certain yet how I want to utilize your donation; got my thinking cap on and will keep ya posted when I make something from your thoughtful donation. Thanks bunches Bunny!

The Bernat Illusions is highly textured so I think it will work up better knitted vs. crocheted. Or at least that's my thought at the moment. lol We'll see how that goes.

Again many thanks!

We had a "Twin"

crocheted scarf
lol
If you saw this post, you might think we did have a twin, or that I duped a post, or posted the same picture twice. Nope. This is the 2nd scarf made from this yarn; though this one is bigger. It measures close to 9 inches wide and about 78 inches in length. It too though came from our friend Rae's mother's yarn stash. How wonderful that we're able to continue the quest to help others. I still have more of this yarn and am thinking about what to make next with it. I thought it would be fun to keep track of how much was made from this one donation. (be sure and scroll down the right sidebar for total miles knitted and crocheted). I've almost hit a whole mile with this special yarn.

Folks, one of our fellow Bridge Team Members is in need of hugs, good thoughts, and prayer. Please hop over top Beth's blog (Crochet Princess) and let her know you care. Her little grandson is having a very very tough time of it. He's only 2 years old. Thank you all for caring.

Please keep up the good work, and keep your fingers flying to help those in need.

Help from Rae's Mother

yarnRae, as you know is our delivery lady. She's the one who hand carries our knitted and crocheted hats, mittens, and scarves to the cold in need there under the bridge; as well as to those in need at the two free clinics. Rae is the lady who prepares hot meals along with several others, making deliveries on Sat. mornings. She volunteers at the two free clinics where our heartfelt donations are also greatly appreciated. This mound of yarn belonged to Rae's mother. Rae lost her mother a short while ago; as many of you may remember (post regarding it here). So, while she is no longer here in the flesh she is reaching out to help others. I will use all the yarn Rae has passed along to me for charity. Something I think her mother would have liked. Not all the colors and types of yarn are appropriate for this cause-The Bridge-but it will all be used for charities in her memory.

In fact, if you look 2 skeins to the right of the yellow yarn, you'll see a partial skein of white which has already been used. It was needed to make 12 inch red, white, and blue granny squares for a Patriotic Cause. You can see the picture and read about it on my other blog...HERE

**I'm still without photo editing software with a non compatible situation. I have a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 ordered; though I understand it could take up to 6 weeks. Geessssss, don't really even know if that's going to solve my problem. Thus, my pictures aren't as clear--can't size them down appropiately pixel size. I believe that's why so many of late have been blurry?

**pending pictures of scarves from Patty, do check back

Special Yarn = Sandie's Scarf

crocheted scarf
If you've been here recently, you know Sandie's last scarf is the one that made us reach our goal, and now it's Sandie again pushing us forward in the + column. YIPPEE! You might also know how extra special I think it is that she's using donated yarn from a dearly departed friend to carry these donations forward. This is Scarf #101 (1 over our original goal of last year of 100, so now we'll make our goal 200).

I hope you're all having a wonderful summer, though it's quite cool and damp here at the moment and doesn't seem like summer at all. We had a fire going last night to keep warm while attending a special gathering at Jan's house. Jan is my SIL, she's the one that delivers all our hand knit and crocheted goodies to Rae to be distributed to those in need, both under the bridge and at the free clinic.

I've added links to Sandie's blog, and both my SIL, Jan's so you can all pay a visit above, and here am leaving links about special summer needs, as well a story about scattered homeless. If you've not yet read those post and commented, please do. Perhaps you can share a story about homeless in your area. I'm also still wanting to follow up on the story to see about a shelter or something in the area where these folks were scattered from due to the Park.

I'm still finding knitting and crocheting difficult due to the association with Mom and all those hours at the hospital, but am working on it. I do have a scarf going for this project, and some granny squares.

Goals:
Hats 178 (22 needed to reach goal of 200)
Mittens 43 pairs (57 need to reach goal of 100)
Scarves 101 (99 needed to reach goal of 200)

And while you're visiting either of my SIL's blog's be sure and wish her Happy Anniversary. We were celebrated 40 years last night at the gathering.

More Socks! Yippee!!!!

socks
7 more pairs of socks to warm feet for those men living under the bridge. Hugs a bunch Dear Scarlet. I'm still trying to catch up here with pictures and counting etc. Things do seem (toes and fingers still crossed) to be calming down in The ICU.

I've got a bag here of goodies to pass along to my SIL today so she can get needed items to Rae for our homeless folks.

And what a neat surprise from Scarlet. I had completely forgotten I even responded to her fun contest regarding the cute face and what to do with her head. She bestoyed 2 great skeins of yarn on me in the same package as the socks! I've tossed it in my hospital bag and already made a pair of booties with it, and am working on a hat to match. Thanks bunches Scarlet. I've used this yarn before and really love the blues...very nice!yarn

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
