Promises and things in the mail

I'm very excited. I've heard from several people who've started a hat or scarf, others that things are being mailed. I will keep you all posted about progress on all fronts.

Cold and icy today here in Central Ohio. I started a scarf on my break at work. Didn't get much done, super busy day; so very soon am heading to the living room to work on it. My goal is to complete it by tomorrow night? Making it lengthwise, shades of blue. Trying to use up some left over yarn I have here at finger tips.

Thanks to all who've joined this group. I also have a group on Ravelry and had 20 members in that group today just before I headed to work. Some of you, like me....are here and there.

Sing out when I should be on the look out for my mailman.

It's a beginning

HELP NEEDED, Hats and Scarfs, PLEASE

I've added 2 ticker/counters here on our blog...one for HATS and one for SCARFS. I've set a goal of 100 for each and will keep track so we know where we are against the goal.

I've fixed the settings and those who attempted to join yesterday have now been able to join. YIPPEE. Anyone may help, email to join the group so I can add your email which lets you join as an author, which means you're listed as a team member. If you'ld like to help without being an "official" team member you may do that by posting a comment. Email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com for my address to mail HATS, SCARFS, GLOVES.

Sooooooo many ways to help:
Post a link to the group in your blog to help spread the word
Blog about the effort
Add link in mass emails to your knitting and crochet friends
And the obvious way is with your knitting needles and or crochet hooks.

When donations are mailed to me, I'll photograph and add so we can see all the wonderful items made by caring kind people.

***would like to add a weather, temperature thing, who knows how to do that?

Need team members, help me warm the homeless in need! PLEASE

Temperatures drop around the country, Homelessness rising, and it's official...the country's in a recession. Help me reach out to the cold, hungry, homeless in Ohio's Capital City, Columbus. Rae (a friend of sister-in-laws from church), and 2 friends visit and feed a group of homeless folks under a bridge weekly. These folks are in need of warm items. The group, all adult--mostly men need hats, scarfs, gloves, and perhaps vests and sweaters. Put your knitting needles and crochet hooks to the cause. Help me help Rae warm these folks, it could be the difference between life and death during these cold winter months in Ohio.

There are some women living here also, but mostly men; and to date we're thankful there are no children.

NEED: Hats, scarfs, gloves..in adult sizes and colors mostly appropiate for men.

This blog will be dedicated to this cause. I will keep tallies here, show pictures of items donated here.

Please join the cause, please join the team.

Items can be sent to me. Contact me at sandycrochet@gmail.com for an address. Once I figure out how to make the blog a team/private thing, I'll add my address.

If you have the ability, vests and or sweaters would also be welcomed.

Afghans made from Donated Squares

Below in no particular order you see afghans made from your thoughtful donated squares. There are many different colors, many different sizes, many different types of squares (rectangles) which make many different types of afghans. Some are traditional in design, some have a definite pattern, some come together without a pattern. Some squares were knitted, some were crocheted. Some afghans where assembled with squares from lots of different hands, while others were made with squares from the same volunteer. Please share with me the joy at seeing what the beauty of team work can do. Each thumbnail is clickable and will link you to the blog post to see the afghan picture larger as well as details about the afghan.

Please take time and look through these and see how many of your squares you can find. PLEASE leave a comment stating you found your squares in afghan #...1-4 first row, 5-8 second row and so forth. If you can point out your squares even better. You may also leave comments on the actual post that highlights the afghan made from your squares. Enjoy and please be chatty. Let's see how many comments we can get.

Comment Contest

DATE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO RUN THROUGH JUNE 15TH.

JoAnn gift cardYesterday we hit a special milestone of 400 blog posts here at Bridge and Beyond. Through the generosity of a special secret donor I'm happy to tell you how YOU can win this $40.00 JoAnn Gift Card. What can one do with a gift card from JoAnn? Wow, the skies the limit. If you knit or crochet or loom, you can buy yarn, books, or patterns. If you scrapbook you can buy special papers, decorations and other materials. If you paint, make jewelry, flower arrangements, do woodworking, sew, felt you'll love spending time picking out wonderful items for your craft of choice. I'm sure I've left something out. I know I can spend hours going up and down the rows looking, thinking, and planning what to make at JoAnn's, so know whomever wins the contest will have fun making their selections.

Now, how can you win? For the month of May, visit and comment. You heard right, visit and comment. You're only limited by how many blog posts are here, which as you know is 400. You can comment once per post starting on May 1. So, even if you've already posted a comment on a particular post, you can comment again on that particular post....only once per post from May 1 through JUNE 15. Post a comment here to say you're in, then come back and go to town. For every 2 posts your name is added to the hopper again, so the more you comment the more you increase your chances. The winner will be pulled from a hat, or maybe by random.org. The latter is quicker; but there's something fun about the hat....so, we'll see. Example, add a comment here that's your first chance, add 2 more comments on 2 other blog posts and that's another chance.

My blog settings are such that I am notified via email for every comment, even on older posts; so your comment won't be missed.

You might be wondering how to find your way back to old posts? Several methods exists. Firstly, you could start with the current blog post and simply go backward. Or, you can click on the blog titles in the recent blog post area where I've altered it to show 25 titles. You might also click on each of the 3 posts listed under each blog post where the thumbnails exist and say you might also enjoy, which if you look at what's showing when you scroll through just the first page will get you to 18 posts.

This will be fun to celebrate our milestone, and help the blog's placement with visits and comments; making it more visible to those looking to find a charity to knit or crochet for. Additionally, everyone likes to receive comments on their hard work, it encourages them to make more. So enjoy yourself, make others feel good about their donations, help the blog, AND improve your changes to win a fun filled shopping spree at JoAnn's.

Feel free to spread the word on your own blogs, in your knitting or crochet groups, on RAV, Facebook, or Twitter.

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated, and all donations keep someone warm. We help, one stitch at a time. YOU truly DO make a difference. THANK YOU!

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
