Crocheted Scarves For Those in Need

Our good friend, Sandie P from Louisiana is back at it with more scarves.  These crocheted scarves are both made with yarn that changes shades.  The turquoise is so pretty, I'm sure one of the ladies will really be happy to wrap up in this.

The grayish-purple-blue will work well for a male.  Please click to see the details in the texture of the stitches she used to make this scarf.  Very cool, particularly I think with the way the shading shows it off.

Not sure what type of yarn Sandie used, but it's very nice and soft.  Well done Sandie and please keep up the good work.

I often wear scarves in the house, having a warm neck helps keep the rest of me warmer, so I know how well received scarves are for our homeless friends.

Hats and Scarves Warm the Homeless

Thank you Karen S for this thoughtful donation of crocheted scarves and loomed/knitted hats.  Karen is starting us out with both hats and scarves for the year 2021.

As always, remember to click the picture to enlarge (you can always do that here on Bridge and Beyond), so you can see the details.  She's made her cute heart shaped tags for size...such a nice tough.

In 2020 we knitted/crocheted and donated 351 hats, which was about 50% of our goal of 685, however that 351 was better than we did the year before in 2019 with 300.  I've set the goal for 2021 at 323, which is our average of the last 4 years, so hopefully, we'll pass that by and maybe even donate more than we did in 2020.

Karen has also started us off with scarves for the new year.  In 2020 we donated 146 scarves which was less than our goal of 218.  I've set the new goal which is the average of the last 4 years to 209, we'll have to work to meet that goal I think, since it's considerably higher than where we were last year.

As always Karen, many thanks and please keep up the good work.

Last Donation of the Year, 2020

Thank you Sandie P for this awesome donation of crocheted scarves!

If you've visited this blog before you probably know Sandie P from Louisiana is our longest standing donator.  She and I belonged to a charity group way way back on Crochetville.  To tell you how long ago that was, the charity was helping Katrina victims.  Somehow it seems fitting, given our long history that Sandie's donation marks the last donation for 2020!

Love the scarves, nice variety of sizes and colors.  Shockingly the day I photographed her donation there was actually a wee bit of sunlight coming in the window......trust me when I say that doesn't happen very often here in Gray Cloudy Central Ohio.

Sandie's 7 scarves brings out total of the year to 146 for a percentage of 0.6697% of our goal, which was 218, 72 short of our goal.

Please know you have helped many people throughout the year with your donations Sandie, and keep up the good work.

I'll be posting final numbers in a few days, and new goals for 2021, so please keep checking back in folks.  Let's hope 2021 brings us a better year on many levels.

Knitting Warm Goodies Helps Homeless

Thank you Laura E for this thoughtful and generous donation.  She's been very busy with her knitting needles and yarn.  Click to enlarge so you can the picture better.  Laura has included lots of hats, all nicely tagged with size.......YIPPEE!!  She's also knitted some scarves, and cotton wash cloths.  The cotton washcloths is the always popular, Grandma's favorite, knitted corner to corner.

She's included personal care items and socks in donation.  Something for everyone.  AND did you notice...she packaged up some sun from Florida for me, lol.  Seriously, you don't often see in the pictures that sunshine is coming through the window when I'm photographing donations, so I'm giving her credit for adding it to the box of donations, lol.

Folks check out our numbers, we're close to the end of the year.  We've hit goal with our afghans and mittens.  AND we're just over 75% of our goal for cotton washcloths and the same  for socks.  It's exciting to see the numbers go up.

Stay safe all.

Scarves and More for Those in Need

Thank you Cynthia B for this awesome donation.  As you can see she has been very very busy with her crochet hook.  Lots of wonderful scarves to warm those in need.  Please click to see all the colors.  In the center of the picture, you can see scarves layed out, while the top and left side the scarves are folded.  Did this in order to get them all in one photo.  I love the mix of colors making the scarves good for for men and women.

She's also included socks which is so necessary, and 3 cotton washcloths.

The year is winding down, and what a year it's been.  I think during these difficult times, all the donation you all have knitted and or crocheted have even more meaning to those that receive them.

Scarves Galore for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you "anonymous" for this thoughtful donation.  Look at this lovely scarves.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you can see the variety of stitches used and how much texture is involved.  A wonderful color selection that is suitable for men or women.  The scarves can make such a difference in keeping someone warm.

Let me take a minute and explain "anonymous".  It's perfectly fine to be anonymous on the blog, but you must include your name and email when you mail donations, so that I have records, and the ability to make contact should there be a need.  This individual did that.  Though it's been a good long while we used to have some issues with donations showing up and I had no means of making contact with the individual, so my policy had to be changed accordingly.

Many thanks for your generous donation, and please keep up the good work.  I hope everyone is staying safe from this ever spreading virus.

Hats and More for Ohio Homeless

Woot Woot!  Look at this awesome donation from our good friend and long time supporter Sandra R.  20 Soft warm knitted hats.  Please click to see how many different styles she has included in part 1 of 2 box donation!!  Each hat nicely tagged with size.  What a nice color mix with some more suitable for women, some more suited to men; and some can nicely work for either gender.

AND, drum roll for box #2.  A bakers dozen (13) more hats.  Again a good variety in size, color and style.  Additionally she crocheted 6 scarves.  I'm not sure why stitch she used to get the 3 two color ones on the right hand side, but it's very interesting.

Many many thanks Sandra for this generous donation.  Hope you're staying safe down there in the sunshine state.  If you've got any extra sun to spare, box it and send it north, Please and Thanks!

Matching Hat and Scarf Sets Warm Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Lisa N. for this thoughtful donation.  Lisa has been busy knitting up these lovely hat and scarf sets.  I love how she's packaged them.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you can see what I mean.  They're tied together nicely and have the size tag included.  Very nice!  I think it makes them look like a gift set don't you!

She's also included some personal care items and an extra hat.

Our weather has indeed turned.  We've had nights below freezing, and a fair amount of rain.  Got a short reprieve, but I fear that too is now over.  So these nice warm knitted goodies are truly needed.

Many thanks and please keep up the good work.  In these difficult times it's even more important to do what we can for those less fortunate.

I hope you're all staying safe from The Covid.  As we all move to more indoor activities, keep your hooks and needles busy folks.

Knitted Goodies for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Michelle N for this thoughtful donation of knitted goodies!  Michelle has included slippers (left side bottom in fall colors), knitted washcloths (right bottom), and 2 hats, and a scarf.  As you can see the hat and scarf make a nice set.  I usually lay out slippers and cloths so you can see them, but she's made them like a gift bundle by tying them nicely and adding a tag...I wanted to leave them that way.  So thought I would tell you what they were.

Many thanks Michelle for adding the nice tags with size etc.

Please know you items will be well received and very much appreciated.

Thank you and please keep up the good work.

Donations from Sunny Florida Help Ohio's Homeless, Thank You!

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome and very generous donation of knitted and crocheted goodies!   As you can our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from Florida has been very busy.  I've said before I don't think the woman sleeps, and or that her needles and hooks must be smoking for the speed and volume of her donations.  I'm tired just looking at them.  She's knitted the always popular corner to corner cotton washcloth, often referred to as Grandma's favorite.

She'd knitted a variety of sizes and styles and colors of hats.  AND thank you for taking the time to tag all your hats with size, it really helps the volunteers get items to those in need faster.
AND......you know how excited I get when we get mittens.  Again, she's provided a good variety of sizes and colors and taken time to tag them all with size!!  YIPPEE!!  There are more hats in this 2nd picture and some crocheted scarves as well.

Awesome and generous, many thanks Sandra for all you do.  Please know how much it is appreciated by many.

Keep up the good work.

Crocheting Warmth and Love for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Tara B for this cheery bright colored Afghan.  It's certainly appropriate to welcome in the autumn season.  It's hard to believe summer has past, but as I type my fingers are cold and so I am reminded that it is September and the last 3 days it's only been in the forty's in the morning.  So warmth is indeed needed for our homeless friends.  Tara's afghan is crocheted and sized large enough for a family to enjoy it.

She's also been busy crocheting hats and scarves.   As you can see, there are several matching sets.  Please click to see details and notice the bagged personal care kits.  She's included 2 cotton washcloths, toothpaste and wipes in each baggy.  What a nice way to gift wrap it.  She's tied the two cloths together also, which is such a nice touch.

Some time back Tara had the brilliant idea to set up a sock order on Amazon.  I thought this was such a smart idea.  She doesn't have to take time to go shopping or repackage them to send here.  She set it up on Amazon and they mail directly to me.  The idea of the year, IMHO.

Many thanks Tara and please keep up the good work.  You truly are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than us.

Knitting and Crocheting in Sunny Florida Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sandra R from Florida for this awesome and very generous donation of crocheted and knitted goodies.  This afghan.......WOW, it's a beauty.  Crocheted.  This is probably the most traditional crocheted afghan that exists, the granny squares all different colors.  It's probably how people used up everything they had...all their left overs from socks, hats, scarves, sweaters etc.
This is also a granny square crocheted afghan, but a newer type pattern.  I love this and know every young girl/teen and most women LOVE purple and lavender.  Sooooooooo pretty.
Sandra isn't sleeping.  Seriously...she must be up all hours of the night to get this much done.  Isn't this an interesting technique.  Yes, this is another example of granny squares, but I don't know what the technique is that incorporates color work like this.  Is it intarsia?
Don't go away, there's more!  This is the same style afghan as above, but with 3 colors.......it looks like Buckeye Colors to me.  Scarlet and gray with the white.  These afghans have a lot of texture.  Please click to enlarge the photo, so you can see the details.
AND.........this one is knitted in the very traditional log cabin style, which I always Love......who doesn't.  These afghans vary a bit in size, color, but all beautifully made.  And all of these will be loved by those that receive them.  Sandra, you truly amaze me.
She also included knitted hats, knitted cotton wash cloths, and mittens......and scarves in her donation.  Whew.......I'm tired just looking at it all.  The hats and mittens are all nicely tagged with size.

Thank you, Thank you Sandra for your skillful hands and big heart.  Please know how much you are appreciated.

As always, keep up the good work!  You Rock!!!!!!!!!

Knitting in Florida Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Laura E for this awesome donation.  As you can, she's been very busy knitting hats, and and cotton wash cloths.  AND she's included lots of good personal care items: wipes, tooth paste, tooth brushes, soap, tissues, razors and 1st aid!  Love the idea of 1st aid.  Please click folks to see the details.  1st aid isn't something I had thought about before so wanted to point that out.   AND she also included panty liners for women, which I understand to be something always in short demand.

Kudos Laura for thinking about different ways to help these folks!

This was to be 1 of 2 pictures, as she sent 2 boxes of donations.  I have 2 notes and the counts of everything; but I've had a picture problem (2nd time in recent weeks here on my computer).  Actually, I'm not sure if the problem is my phone or the computer.  When I transfer the pictures from my phone to the computer I've had a few (just recently) disappear.  I've tried finding them on the computer and the phone without success.  Literally, it was there, I saw it and then poof.  Very frustrating.

Is this photo there are 23 pairs of socks and there were 11 in the lost photo.
There are 6 hats in this photo and there were 9 in the other one.
There are 4 cloths in this photo and there were 5 in other one.
There were personal care items in both photo's.

Perhaps eventually I'll find the photo in an unrelated file on the computer, who knows.  But, I don't know way this has happened twice in recent weeks.

Thank you Laura E, for being so generous and please know you're truly are making a difference.  Am so sorry about the missing photo.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
