Donations for Homeless Continue to be Mailed

Thank you Sandra R for another thoughtful donation from the sunny state of Florida.  This donation of knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, and mittens bring us a bit closer to our goals.  We're chipping away folks with some time remaining.

Sandra many thanks for all you do for Bridge and Beyond all year long, it's truly appreciated.  Special thanks for tagging hats with size, and for pairing and tagging your awesome mittens.

It's currently 4 degrees as I type this post....it warmed up, as it was 2 when I got up this morning, so you know how needed these wonderful donations are.

Thank you, and as always; please keep up the good work.

Inching Our Way to our Donations Goals

Thank you Sandra from Florida.  As you can see, she's been very busy.  I really think she must knit in her sleep with the quantity she is able to produce for Bridge and Beyond through out the year.  Sandra has included 7 more pairs of mittens bring our yearly total to 9 over last year.  So truly exciting!

She's gotten us a bit closer on our scarf goal.  Believe we have 34 days and need 190...how close will we get?  Only time will tell.

AND she's managed 22 hats really making a nice dent in our hat goal.

Many thanks Sandra for your kindness and generosity.  As always, beautifully made hats, scarves, and mittens.  And special thanks too for tagging mittens and hats with size.

You truly Rock!!

Knitted Mittens, Bonus Donation for the Homeless

Strike up the band!  Put your party hat on and turn up the music!!  You know how excited I always get when we get mittens..............Look at them, really take a minute and look.  Click the picture to enlarge.  Pick a color, pick a size.....38 pairs of hands are warm, and excitedly clapping.

Yep, our good friend and long time supporter........Sandra R from Florida has done it again.  Not only has she made a mound of mittens, but she's put us over the number we had last year!!! That's cause for having a party and celebrating.  Like with the Cotton Cloths, that doesn't mean we wouldn't LOVE to have more...but it's thrilling to have 2 items met and exceed the goal.  Who knows how many more we might get between now and the end of the year.

YIPPEE!!!  Many many thanks Sandra.  Your Rock!!

Clapping for Knitted Mittens for the Homeless

Are you clapping with me?  Bet you are, we all get so excited when we get donations of mittens.  And, if you've been here a couple of times, you probably even know who knitted these awesome mittens.  Go on, guess.  None other than our very good friend Sandra R from Florida..  She's been really busy, as you can see knitting mittens and hats.  Please click to see details.  She's knitted mittens in a wide range of sizes and colors.  Lots of warmer hands, thanks to Sandra!!

Sandra has also included knitted hats, see the top portion of the picture.  All the hats and mittens are nicely tagged with size and the mittens paired together.  Fabulous donation.

Over the years Sandra's been donating to Bridge and Beyond, she has warmed many people in need.  Thank you for your on going support of Ohio's homeless.

Knitting Afghans and More for Homeless

Thank you Sandra R from Florida where so many endured so much recently from Hurricane Irma.  Sandra included.  Relieved to hear you're ok.  Such widespread tragedy and destruction.  Beautifully knitted cotton washcloths.  I love love the brown, the men folk will too.  The pattern in the green scarf is like ribbing and therefore nice and thick...sorta squishy, which will make it nice and warm~
Sandra excels in knitting these awesome Log Cabin Afghans.  She mixes colors so nicely that the afghans work well for men and women.  Beautifully made as always!  These style is really a personal favorite of mine, and what a great way to use up odds and ends.  If you've spent anytime looking at traditional quilts, you'll see this log cabin style frequently.  Lovely, please click to enlarge the picture so you can see this beauty

Pictures of Donations for the Homeless After Being Hacked!

If you read yesterday's post (and if not PLEASE PLEASE do), you know I was hacked and have been without the ability to use my computer and post for sometime.
To give you an idea of what wonderful donations have been pending.  I'm posting these pictures, which will all be discussed in subsequent blog posts.
As note in yesterday's post, some pictures were stuck on my computer without my ability to get to them, others stuck in my camera without the ability to load them anywhere.
Almost all of these wonderful donations had already been bagged for delivery.
A few have come while I was working through the issues.
And, as we'll be catching up....thought you'd enjoy seeing all these wonderful knitted, crocheted, and loomed goodies!

Our weather here as already started to turn.  August in fact might have been one of the coldest I can remember.  Ohio August's are always referred to as the dog days of summer.  Not this year.  The last several weeks of the month we had many mornings with temps in the 50's, which is just crazy.
And now for the last month, we thought we might have what in this area is referred to as Indian Summer....once the kids get back to school it gets super hot.  NOPE, that didn't happen either.
While we've not had frost yet, we have had lots of fog that last several mornings.  Could barely see out the window this am and it didn't clear til around 10:30 am.  Strange weather indeed.  Though mind you, we're not having floods, or hurricanes, or tornado's or earthquakes, or wild fires and for that, I am very grateful.
The fabulous donations are from:
Melinda G, Emily K, Sandie P, Sandra R, Connor W, Karen S, and Joy D.  Not necessarily in that order folks, just reading from notes.

Please know all your donations are very much appreciated.  AND please keep coming back to the blog to see the blog posts with your goodies.

Again Thank you all for your patience.  AND again, if you didn't read yesterday's post PLEASE do.  I want you all to be informed.

Also folks, thought it was time for a new look so have changed the layout, and theme/color of the blog a bit.  Hope you like it.

Knitting in Sunny Florida Aids Ohio's Homeless

Our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from the sunny state of Florida hit a fabulous end of the season sale and picked up all these knit hats.  Our mission is of course hand made, but she wisely didn't pass up this opportunity.  After all 14 hats, means 14 more head will be warmer.  How wonderful is that!  A nice variety of both size and color in the lot which will be helpful too many.
If you scroll back, you'll see a wonderful Log Cabin Style Knitted Afghan she made in addition to wise shopping....AND mittens, hats, and cotton washcloths in this picture.  Sandra has been super super busy!  I love and always get especially excited with her mittens!  Notice the style hats folks (remember you can always click to enlarge the picture to see details better), nice and long and stretchy gives one the ability to roll the brim.  I've done that with hat in the lower right, the 2 tone gray and burgundy, so you can see.  As always, special thanks for tagging all your hats with size, and mittens as well.

Thank you for your hard work, your on going support are truly valued.

Donating a Knitted Log Cabin Afghan

LOVELY!  This lovely log cabin style afghan is knitted by our good friend, Sandra R from the Sunshine State of Florida.  Sandra, has been a long time and very generous supporter or Bridge and Beyond.  Please click to enlarge so you can all the details, and large variety of colors.  Truly a work of art.  The log cabin style afghan is a throwback to a very traditional style quilt made my many ladies quilting bees.  It was a wonderful way to use up left over pieces of fabrics from other sewing projects.  The same idea certainly comes through with yarn as well.  I really love this style, and love the colors work well for a man, or a woman.  The ghan is sized large enough to be a family ghan as well.

Beautiful work Sandra.  As always, please keep up the good work.  This will indeed be a prized position to the person/family that receives it.

Hats, Scarves, Mittens and More Aid the Homeless

This is a bit of an unusual donation from our good friend Sandra R from Florida.  We knit, crochet and donate...but she found a great sorta end of the season sale so we have some hats and gloves not made by her; but.......they will help someone.  I've separated the pastels out for the teen pile.  In addition to her great sale, she's been busy knitted and crocheting hats, scarves, and mittens.  She the 2nd picture as well.
I LOVE LOVE the nice dark colored hats sized large enough for the men folk.  AND look at the great mittens.  Thanks also for tagging hats and mittens with size, and pairing the mittens together with yarn so the pair stay in tack.

Sandra's generous donation came in two of those large polly type mailing pouches.  I mention this folks, because you often reduce postage cost since the pouches are lighter weight than an equivalent box size would be.

**Would the person who donated red and gray socks, knitted hat and scarf please make contact.  You can email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com, leave a comment here on the blog, and or leave a note using the contact form here on the blog.**

Knitted Mittens and Hats for the Cold Homeless

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation of lovely warm knitted hats.  Our good friend in Florida Sandra R always includes some sunshine in her boxes of donations too lol.  The day I opened this donation, we surely needed it.  Awesome hats, with great colors and size variety to fit many different heads.  Thank you Sandra for always tagging them with size.  That's so helpful and saves so much time both here at my house and when they get to the various shelters.
Our good friend and long time generous supporter Sandra had 2 boxes of donations.  Box one was the hats above and box 2...........yippee.  See me clapping and dancing in the street again!  27 fabulous pairs of mittens.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you can see all these wonderful mittens.  Again, she's taken the time to tag the all with size, and such a wonderful collection of sizes and colors.  These were delivered the very next day to our friend Rae who feeds those living out in the elements.  I didn't want to waste any time getting these out to those so desperately in need.  Though behind posting here, they was a rush delivery and Rae delivered them pronto, as the weather was frigid.

Many thanks Sandra, and as always please keep up the good work.

Homeless Donations from Sunny Florida

LOVE LOVE LOVE this colorful afghan.  What an awesome way to use up scrapes.  Also wonderful way to have a small project to tote around, or to work on when it's warm.  You make lots of scarves and crochet together.  Our very good friend, and long time supporter Sandra R has done it again.  Beautiful, fun, and cheery.  This afghan will work for either male or female with it's nice mix of colors.  It's soft, warm and large enough for a family afghan as well.  Way to go Sandra!
But.....wait, she's not done.  Look at these wonderful hats and scarves!  Hats of different styles and colors and sizes to warm cold heads in need.  Special thanks too Sandra for tagging with size.  Tagging with size helps get hats to the right sized hats quicker than those not tagged with size.  Awesome work as always..............
BUT......she's not done, Mittens and more hats.  You know how excited I get when we get mittens!!  Yippee, I'm dancing with joy.  Once again Sandra has tagged hats and mittens with size.  Sandra R from Florida, YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!

Thank you, Thank you!  This awesome log cabin style crocheted afghan comes from our good friend and long time supporter Sandra R from the state of Florida.  It's interesting to me that this pattern wasn't one you saw a lot of until a few years ago and it's now beyond popular both with quilters and crafters with yarn.

There's much information out there about how or what makes a "log cabin" style quilt or afghan and where it came from.  Initially, most assumed it originated here in the states during Abe Lincoln's time and referred to in fact, his Log Cabin.  Some description indicate the style has a center square with colors changing every 2 sides.  The center square was red in the early days to represent hearth and home (keep the fires burning).  Two sides of the center square would be light colors while the other/opposite two sides would be dark.

Others felt is was a way to use all fabric and or yarn (as one didn't throw away useable anything in those days) where the amounts of the color didn't need to be the same.  It's grown, changed, and modernized.  There's also evidence to suggest the idea of a central square originated with The Egyptians.

Whatever, and wherever it all came from, I love them and find them fun to make.  They hit my love of not needing things to be equal, or the same.

Sandra, as always has done an outstanding job of crocheting this afghan.  It will be warmly received by whomever receives it.

Many thanks Sandra, please keep up the good work.

Crocheted Afghan Donated

Another awesome donation from our good friend and generous supporter Sandra R from Florida.  This afghan, crocheted in The Log Cabin Style will certainly bring a smile to someone's face, as well as keep someone warm.  Love the colors, suitable for a male or female.  Who wouldn't want to curl up under this afghan!

Sandra also sent hats, mittens, and cotton washcloths, which were in a separate picture.  However, when I plugged in my memory card to write this blog post, only one picture was visible.  No clue what happened to the other picture.  Thankfully notes tell me there were 10 hats, 3 pairs of mittens, and 14 washcloths.  Sandra's hats were all tagged with size which is very much appreciated, as it aids in seeing hats get in the right donation bag for delivery.

Thank you Sandra, and please keep up the good work!

Clapping for a Donation of Mittens

Whew Who...Clapping for this awesome donation of mittens among other things.  You all know how excited I get, that I dance in the street etc when we get a donation of mittens.  Please click this donation from our good friend Sandra R from Florida to get a better look.  As always, she's out done herself with a wonderful donations of mittens, hats, scarves, cotton washcloths, and personal care items.  Additionally, she has tagged and paired each pair of mittens AND attached sizes on her hats.  Truly appreciated by me, by the volunteers who receive our items at the various shelters and those who receive them.

Please folks remember Hats, Mittens, and Slippers need to be tagged with size to facilitate getting to right spot for donation quicker.  Also please attach your mittens and slippers so the pair stays together with a string or piece of yarn.

As always, Sandra many thanks for your long time support Bridge and Beyond, and please keep up the good work.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
