Crocheted Donations for Homeless Continue

Thank you Emily K for this thoughtful donation of crocheted items to help Bridge and Beyond help Homeless in need.  Emily has included quite a variety of items with this donation.  She has cotton washcloths, some personal care items, a hat, mittens...........see me clapping!  I get really jazzed up when we get mittens!  She also included a pair of finger-less glovs/writs warmers.  I never know which is the more accepted or popular name.

Thank you Emily, you are such a wonderful supporter of Bridge and Beyond.  Please know you are making an important difference in people's lives.

Oophs, almost missed the 2nd picture of the two pairs of slipper Emily made.  Very nice indeed.  Don't they look comfy and warm!  One of these days, I really should make myself a pair...one of these days.

Keep up the good work!

**The counts on our progress bars are current, as are the percentages.  However, the percentages may not always be; as I don't plan to figure them with each donation.  They will be figured at least by the 20th of each month.

Gorgeous Hand Knits for the Homeless

Woot Woot, look at this marvelous donation of scarves, mittens and hats and also a cotton washcloth.  What a wonderful and very generous donation.  I swear I don't think our good friend Sandra R from Florida ever sleeps.  She knits and crochets constantly!  What a wonderful mix of goodies.

Please click so you can see the details.  She's included hats of many different styles, and colors.  Lots of additional warm heads will be thrilled.  AND you know how excited I get when we get mittens!!  Take a look she's has them all nicely tagged with size and kept together as a pair by using the size tag to tie them together.

Sandra you are truly appreciated for your kind heart and your very gifted hands by everyone involved with Bridge and Beyond.  And, as I noted a few posts back...see the sunshine, lol.  She always packs some sunshine in from Florida with her donations.  We get so few days with sunshine here, it's greatly appreciated.  The pictures were taken on the same day folks, it's just that she had so much I made it two posts to not over whelm one post with pictures.  Improves the loading time of the page.

Thank you, Sandra.  As always, please keep up the good work!

**The counts on our progress bars are current, the percentages not quite. I'll not be figure the percentages with each update of numbers, but will be updating again next at least by the 20th. I have in fact made a reminder not on my cell phone for the 20th of each month to do percentages. If we're at a milestone, or I just have extra time I may do it more often...but certainly at that scheduled time.

Knitted Slippers, Has, and Mittens for the Homeless

Knitted warmth!  Look at the variety here folks.  Slippers in several different sizes and colors to help warm cold feet..........hats for the kiddo's is lots of cute styles, a couple of cowls..........and drum roll for ....you guessed it........MITTENS!  And who knitted and donated all these goodies?  Sue F!  Many thanks Sue for remember us here on Bridge and Beyond.  Extra thanks for tagging slippers and hats and mittens with size.

I have the trunk of my car all loaded up, as I type this blog post so I can make deliveries on Monday to Homeless Families Foundations.

Sadly the very top of picture is cut off a bit, as there are several hats you can just barely see there in the picture.  Wished I had noticed that before tossing those 5 bags of donations in my car, I could have re-taken the picture; but no clue which bag they are in, or if they are all in the same bag.  Luckily, my note tells me how many of everything so I plug in the number to our progress bars on the right.

Folks these progress bars are new, and not so far the easiest thing to use.  If any of you bloggers know a different style, I would love to know.  Likewise, if anyone knows how to change the default font on the blog.  Some of the functionality seems to be gone that used to be available.  I keep changing the font with each blog post I write, as I don't like the blog default one.......very small and not clean--straight forward looking at this one.  Sing out if you have some thoughts on these two blogging issues.  THanks!!

How Can You Help the Homeless?

Since it's early in our new year, 2018, thought I'd post some ideas.  These ideas are ways you can help the homeless.  Maybe you've been here to the blog, Bridge and Beyond before; but have forgotten ways to help the homeless.........maybe you're new to reading this blog.  In either case, here's some ideas of things you can do to make life better for a homeless Man, Women, or Child.

  • If you knit, or crochet or loom...the most obvious way to help is to knit, crochet, or loom hats, scarves, mittens, slippers, and afghans.
  • If you don't knit, crochet or loom, but know someone who does ....buy them yarn to encourage them to knit, crochet or loom something to donate to Bridge and Beyond.
  • If you don't knit, crochet or loom, and don't know the first thing about buying yarn, offer to pay postage for someone who does knit, crochet or loom and would make and donate something for Bridge and Beyond.
  • Whether you knit, crochet, or loom or not..........visit the blog daily.  Why?  How does that help?  It helps traffic to the blog, which helps with the search engine optimization of the blog, which helps more people find us easier when searching for charities to knit, crochet or loom for.
  • Take your blog visit a step farther, leave a comment.  Why?  The more time spent on the blog also aids the search engine optimization (SEO), and it encourages others to leave comments.  If you're a blogger you can leave your name and url to your blog.  Please leave the blog url, not a google+page url.  I'll return the visit, but can't if you're google+
  • Regardless of whether or not you're a knitter, crocheter, or loomer or not......spread the word by sharing the link to the blog in your email contacts, and on your social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc.
  • If you knit, crochet, or loom in public (planes, lunch at work, etc) have a card or two with you with the name and url of the blog.  Why?  People often ask what you're making when you're knitting, crocheting and or looming in public, right?  When they do tell them what you're making and why........offer them the card so they can check out the blog
  • What is the url?  http://homelessbridge.blogspot.com/    you can also tell them to google Bridge and Beyond.
  • Share the link to the Facebook Group    https://www.facebook.com/groups/246918975439091/?ref=bookmarks
  • If you are not a knitter, crocheter or loomer, you can help by collecting personal care items which are needed all year long.  They are needed in Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter.  You can buy personal care items, or you can collect items from hotels when you and your friends and family travel.
  • Socks......store bought socks are always needed.  You don't need to be a knitter, crocheter, or loomer to donate socks.  Socks for men is the primary need.  When living outdoors the danger of wet cold feet is very real.  To have warm dry socks to change into can help keep people alive.

**Did you see our donation stats for the last 5 years?

Sandra many thanks for all you do for Bridge and Beyond all year long, it's truly appreciated.  Special thanks for tagging hats with size, and for pairing and tagging your awesome mittens.

It's currently 4 degrees as I type this post....it warmed up, as it was 2 when I got up this morning, so you know how needed these wonderful donations are.

Thank you, and as always; please keep up the good work.

Hats and Scarves Warm Cold Homeless

Thank you Phyllis G for this thoughtful donation of hats and scarves.  I love how nicely you paired them to make sets!!  Great color choices.  Phyllis has also crocheted a pair of fingerless mitts..........always a hit, and a pair of slippers.

Please click to enlarge so you can see one of the hat/scarf sets is an infinity scarf/mobius/cowl.

Many thanks Phyllis and please keep up the good work.

We're chipping away at our goal folks.  With 15 days left in the calendar year (though remember I traditionally don't close the year until all donations received by the end of year get blogged about and sometimes that goes into a week or two in January), we would need about 10.8 hats per day and 8.6 scarves per day to hit our goal of donating the same number that we donated last year.  I don't know how close we'll get,  but....please keep checking in to see.

Many thanks Cynthia and Juli, we hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.

Inching Our Way to our Donations Goals

Thank you Sandra from Florida.  As you can see, she's been very busy.  I really think she must knit in her sleep with the quantity she is able to produce for Bridge and Beyond through out the year.  Sandra has included 7 more pairs of mittens bring our yearly total to 9 over last year.  So truly exciting!

She's gotten us a bit closer on our scarf goal.  Believe we have 34 days and need 190...how close will we get?  Only time will tell.

AND she's managed 22 hats really making a nice dent in our hat goal.

Many thanks Sandra for your kindness and generosity.  As always, beautifully made hats, scarves, and mittens.  And special thanks too for tagging mittens and hats with size.

You truly Rock!!

Making Mittens from Recycled Sweaters? Re-purposing.

I don't have a wool sweater lying around, but..........would love some input on this.

Has anyone tried it?  Has anyone seen this method before?  So would you be limited to a pair of mittens from one sweater because you're cutting it from the ribbing that would at your waist?

Might a sleeve be large enough for a small pair of mittens?

I can't say that I'm a fan of the 3 cross stitch type X's or button, but ...What about the general idea here?  Is a sweater sufficiently think enough to provide enough warmth for hands?

I post this with all my questions in hopes of getting some good input from all you who visit Bridge and Beyond, even if you're not a knitter or crocheter.  Is this an idea that would help us donate more mittens?

Knitted Mittens, Bonus Donation for the Homeless

Strike up the band!  Put your party hat on and turn up the music!!  You know how excited I always get when we get mittens..............Look at them, really take a minute and look.  Click the picture to enlarge.  Pick a color, pick a size.....38 pairs of hands are warm, and excitedly clapping.

Yep, our good friend and long time supporter........Sandra R from Florida has done it again.  Not only has she made a mound of mittens, but she's put us over the number we had last year!!! That's cause for having a party and celebrating.  Like with the Cotton Cloths, that doesn't mean we wouldn't LOVE to have more...but it's thrilling to have 2 items met and exceed the goal.  Who knows how many more we might get between now and the end of the year.

YIPPEE!!!  Many many thanks Sandra.  Your Rock!!

Clapping for Knitted Mittens for the Homeless

Are you clapping with me?  Bet you are, we all get so excited when we get donations of mittens.  And, if you've been here a couple of times, you probably even know who knitted these awesome mittens.  Go on, guess.  None other than our very good friend Sandra R from Florida..  She's been really busy, as you can see knitting mittens and hats.  Please click to see details.  She's knitted mittens in a wide range of sizes and colors.  Lots of warmer hands, thanks to Sandra!!

Sandra has also included knitted hats, see the top portion of the picture.  All the hats and mittens are nicely tagged with size and the mittens paired together.  Fabulous donation.

Over the years Sandra's been donating to Bridge and Beyond, she has warmed many people in need.  Thank you for your on going support of Ohio's homeless.

Crocheted Goodies to Warm Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Emily K for this potpourri of crocheted goodies.  Take a look folks, she's been busy.  Emily has crocheted cotton wash clothes (please scroll back to my previous post about all the uses for these cotton wash clothes), crocheted hats, crocheted scarves, and crocheted mittens.

Listen........do you hear me?  You should.  You know, if you visited my blog before how excited I get when we get donations of mittens!  I give out a shout of glee, every single time.  Sometimes I dance in the streets too.  Perhaps you've seen me, lol.

Emily has also included a nice mix of personal care items.  Personal care items are used all year long folks, even when perhaps those in need might not need a hat.  They use personal care items when in the shelters, when living outdoors in the elements and they get a package of them to help start them stocking their permanent housing situation when they get their welcome home pack and transition out of shelter living. Personal care items can be toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, chap stick, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, shaving supplies, female supplies and more.  Personal Care items can be donated by those who don't knit or crochet.  You can save items from your travels from hotel rooms in order to make a donation.

Many thanks Emily, please keep up the good work.

Pictures of Donations for the Homeless After Being Hacked!

If you read yesterday's post (and if not PLEASE PLEASE do), you know I was hacked and have been without the ability to use my computer and post for sometime.
To give you an idea of what wonderful donations have been pending.  I'm posting these pictures, which will all be discussed in subsequent blog posts.
As note in yesterday's post, some pictures were stuck on my computer without my ability to get to them, others stuck in my camera without the ability to load them anywhere.
Almost all of these wonderful donations had already been bagged for delivery.
A few have come while I was working through the issues.
And, as we'll be catching up....thought you'd enjoy seeing all these wonderful knitted, crocheted, and loomed goodies!

Our weather here as already started to turn.  August in fact might have been one of the coldest I can remember.  Ohio August's are always referred to as the dog days of summer.  Not this year.  The last several weeks of the month we had many mornings with temps in the 50's, which is just crazy.
And now for the last month, we thought we might have what in this area is referred to as Indian Summer....once the kids get back to school it gets super hot.  NOPE, that didn't happen either.
While we've not had frost yet, we have had lots of fog that last several mornings.  Could barely see out the window this am and it didn't clear til around 10:30 am.  Strange weather indeed.  Though mind you, we're not having floods, or hurricanes, or tornado's or earthquakes, or wild fires and for that, I am very grateful.
The fabulous donations are from:
Melinda G, Emily K, Sandie P, Sandra R, Connor W, Karen S, and Joy D.  Not necessarily in that order folks, just reading from notes.

Please know all your donations are very much appreciated.  AND please keep coming back to the blog to see the blog posts with your goodies.

Again Thank you all for your patience.  AND again, if you didn't read yesterday's post PLEASE do.  I want you all to be informed.

Also folks, thought it was time for a new look so have changed the layout, and theme/color of the blog a bit.  Hope you like it.

Thank you Emily K for your Crocheted Donation to Help Homeless

Thank you Emily K for your on going support of Bridge and Beyond.  Emily has been busy, as you can see with this thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies.  She crocheted 2 hats, a pair of mittens and a pair of slippers.  In addition, she's crocheted 5 kitchen scrunchie.  I am not sure what type of yarn/fiber is used for those scrunchies and or what pattern Emily used, but would like to know.  Looks like a useable item for the welcome packs Homeless Families Foundation puts together when people transition from shelter to their permanent housing situation.  I will try to follow up on this item and let you all know.  I think I'd like some for my own kitchen, how bout. You all?

Please keep up the good work Emily, and know you are appreciated.

Hats and Mittens Sets for the Homeless

Thank you thank you Emily for these matching sets of hats and mittens.  Folks, please click to see the details so you can see the mittens on the left (black ones), are both those fingerless mitts and mittens.  What a great idea.  Black and gray, wonderful colors for our homeless friends.

I've been a bit delayed catching up folks, my apologies.  But, I'm almost there.  Please stay tuned.

We've had the strangest weather, here in Ohio.  Currently it's quite warm, but it was less than a week ago we had the house all closed up and hit on for a couple of days.  A most unusual spring, so the car load I took to the shelter about 10 days - 2 weeks ago, was still very much needed.

Many thanks Emily for your on going efforts to help Bridge and Beyond and those homeless in need.  Please keep up the good work.

Knitting in Sunny Florida Aids Ohio's Homeless

Our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from the sunny state of Florida hit a fabulous end of the season sale and picked up all these knit hats.  Our mission is of course hand made, but she wisely didn't pass up this opportunity.  After all 14 hats, means 14 more head will be warmer.  How wonderful is that!  A nice variety of both size and color in the lot which will be helpful too many.
If you scroll back, you'll see a wonderful Log Cabin Style Knitted Afghan she made in addition to wise shopping....AND mittens, hats, and cotton washcloths in this picture.  Sandra has been super super busy!  I love and always get especially excited with her mittens!  Notice the style hats folks (remember you can always click to enlarge the picture to see details better), nice and long and stretchy gives one the ability to roll the brim.  I've done that with hat in the lower right, the 2 tone gray and burgundy, so you can see.  As always, special thanks for tagging all your hats with size, and mittens as well.

Thank you for your hard work, your on going support are truly valued.

Donating Warm Mittens and More

Clapping for mittens!  I always get so excited when we get mittens, it's an item many of us don't make, due to lacking the skill so well done Dee Ann H!  Awesome donation of mittens in multiple sizes.  All the areas we donate to share my excitement when mittens are included in our wonderful donations.

This post was scheduled to post (or at least I thought it was), then I realized it was still in a pending status.  Not sure whether it's a blog oophs, or an operator (me) oophs.  Sorry for the delay in sharing this thoughtful donation with you all.

Thank you Dee Ann and please keep up the good work.

Hats and Scarves Oh My

Look at this awesome donation of warm hats, scarves and mittens!  LOVE the nice variety of colors of sizes.  Something here for everyone.  Thank you Barbara H for tagging and pairing the mittens together with their size, and the sizes for hats as well.  This saves so much time for all the volunteers at the various shelters.

The gray scarf in the middle is gorgeous!  I LOVE LOVE the plaid look.  How did you do that?  Folks, please be sure to click to enlarge the picture so you can how awesome this scarf is.

Thank you also for taking time to deliver your donation in person!  It's much appreciated.

Please keep up the good work.

Hats, Scarves, Mittens and More Aid the Homeless

This is a bit of an unusual donation from our good friend Sandra R from Florida.  We knit, crochet and donate...but she found a great sorta end of the season sale so we have some hats and gloves not made by her; but.......they will help someone.  I've separated the pastels out for the teen pile.  In addition to her great sale, she's been busy knitted and crocheting hats, scarves, and mittens.  She the 2nd picture as well.
I LOVE LOVE the nice dark colored hats sized large enough for the men folk.  AND look at the great mittens.  Thanks also for tagging hats and mittens with size, and pairing the mittens together with yarn so the pair stay in tack.

Sandra's generous donation came in two of those large polly type mailing pouches.  I mention this folks, because you often reduce postage cost since the pouches are lighter weight than an equivalent box size would be.

**Would the person who donated red and gray socks, knitted hat and scarf please make contact.  You can email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com, leave a comment here on the blog, and or leave a note using the contact form here on the blog.**

Crocheting from the Heart Warms Homeless

Thank you Emily!  What a nice donation with crocheted mittens (see me clapping and dancing!), hats, and a scarf.  Emily's also included some hand sanitizer with her thoughtful donation.  Her hats are a variety of sizes to help warm different sized heads.  Really like the 2 tone brown one.

Thanks for being such a loyal supporter of Bridge and Beyond, Emily.  Please know how much we appreciate you and your efforts.

As always, keep up the good work.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
