More Warmth to share!!!


Here's Stella modeling a patriotic hat and scarfs set made by Sandie. Yummy as always. This will keep someone warm and make them feel patriotic at the same time. Thanks so much Sandie for your ongoing support. Hat #137, Scarf #56


Here's our Stella again, she sooooooo loves to get in the middle of things. She's modeling a wonderful knit cap (such fabulous soft yarn), made by Katie, hat #138. You will make someones' day with this for sure! Around her neck and beside her are two very pretty scarfs crocheted and donated by Susan (through The Angels Scarf Ministry). Aren't these pretty. I really like the nice edge you put on the granny square scarf. Very nice! Scarf #57 and #58

I've got a scarf and pair of mittens started and am hoping to finish this wkend. Though since I'm working the bulk of Sat, it's a very short wkend for me. It's been a couple of wild work weeks. We're trying hard to make up for being short on quota's with the large number of people who canceled and or didn't show for the food taste test.

UPDATES and housekeeping

Waving hello from the snow storm here in Central Ohio. We got snow, freezing rain last night; and today are being hit with lots more of the white stuff. Much of cities schools and businesses are closed. Unsure yet if my office will be.

Crochet Princess (Beth), previously an Ohioan, A Buckeye. The one who's pattern is linked in a previous post...who's pattern is on her blog (designed specially for this group), sent 16 matching hats and mittens. There are 8 in each picture. Buckeye Colors among them, maroon, blue, many shades of green, camo etc.

Worked late again tonight, so by the time I got home (after 8 pm), had dinner, opened mail...a bit late to call my SIL, but can hardly wait to connect so we get these things passed along to Rae. The mittens are really going to add soooooo much to keeping them warm.

My thanks for all the continuous support in knitting and crocheting, for adding the blog button to help spread the word, for the prayers to keep these people as warm as possible and as safe as possible given their circumstance. You have no idea how much good you have and are continuing to do.

I trully am in awe of you all. Blessing to one and all.

MORE! Hats and Scarfs = More Warmth!!!

You people Rock! Totally and completely rock! More wonderful warm items received today via my favorite postal worker. He's asked about all the boxes and pouches I get and hubby told him about the project. So.......he takes extra special care of all the packages all you wonderful folks send my way for our folks under the bridge.

Another beautifully crocheted hat from Sandie. This is made with a new type of yarn. Or at least new to me. Soy Wool Solids from Patons. It has a really nice feel to it, almost silk like. No one would ever guess it's wool. As always Sandie, many many thanks, someone is going to be very happy to receive this hat. Hat #115

Smiles and Appreciation from under the Bridge.

Wanted to tell you all a bit about last Saturdays delivery to our folks under the bridge. It was cold, we were having freezing rain when Rae took the donations. There were lots of happy people with smiles on their faces as they put on hats, and scarfs to ward off the elements. Buckeye Fans among them, the men were excited about getting the Scarlet and Grey items!

Rae's been trying to obtain some tarps, and ropes from hardware stores (hoping for some donations where possible), so they could make a shelter of sorts from the rain, and wind etc. A few are lucky enough to have a tent. I'll be checking back with her to see if she was able to obtain any tents, or tarps and let you know.

Some of our earlier items were packed in donated/used packbacks along with some personal care items like toothbrushes, soap, towels and the like and given to them just prior to Christmas. You all helped in making them know people do care.

Hugs to all, and now...I hear yarn calling my name.

Gloria sent scarfs #45 & 46. I really like the blue mutli-colored one. I'm not familiar with the stitch you used Gloria...very interesting, what is it? That yarn was really soft too, what did you use? Thank you sooooooooo much. The support so many of you are showing truly touches my heart.

Scarlet sent 3 scarfs #47-48-49. I'll add these (if Stella will give them up!) to the ladies donation for the clinic. I'm particularly fond of the purple and orange one. I love the colors. Wanted to show the red, white, and blue neck warmer. Fits me... and felt pretty good around my neck right after getting in from the cold, that too will go to the ladies next donation. Can you see the interesting buttons?

The temperature when I woke up this am was -12. The warmest it got all day was 8 in the sun. I ask that you join in keeping these folks in your thoughts and prayers to make it through these conditions.

Hats, Scarfs, and Mittens!

Mittens, #3. I finally got a pair finished thanks to using a new pattern our very our Crochet Princess, Beth wrote and sent to me. I frogged the knitted ones now for the 2nd time! Still working on the other croheted ones, but much prefer Beth's pattern. She's written an improvement in it since I made this pair, so I'll be making more. Thanks bunches Beth. PLEASE hope over to her page she's graciously posted the pattern, AND is naming it after our project!

Mitten Excitement and Deliveries

I'm excited to report that I spotted at least 3 people making mittens. YIPEE. I spotted mittens done and in the works on Bunny's, Therese, and Crochet Princess's blogs. How cool is that folks! Looking forward to their accomplishments in that area. I've started 2 pairs. The first knitted pair, I frogged; but I've not thrown in the towel. Working on a crocheted pair -- think I'm about 1/3 done with the first one, and working on a knitted pair (partway through the ribbing for the cuff on the first mitt). Both of these require counting and seem to be a little tough on my carpal tunnel so am going back and forth between them and other things. Perhaps as I get more comfortable with the pattern etc, I'll be more relaxed and that will help the carpal tunnel.

Deliveries...I've lost track of some dates, will get with Rae and see if I can back into them. But, I can tell you Jan passed off a large donation to Rae this past Thursday (which was her 4th delivery...I think), and yesterday I handed off our 5th delivery to Jan. I believe Jan might see Rae to pass those on again tomorrow. Will see if I can get dates of her deliveries to our folks under the bridge.

I know people are out there working on items and some are in route to us, all of which is very much appreciated. We had some freezing rain earlier today, trees and walks etc. covered with ice; then it warmed up just a degree or two and some of it melted. If our focast is accurate, we're expecting snow later tomorrow....so you see your thoughtful and warm donations are truly needed.

HELP me Count!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the orange and brown hats she spoke about a few days. Variety of sizing, believe most are crocheted with double strands of yarn? Is that right Molly? Will add the two for kids (and maybe one other) to the kids bag. Thankfully we've not yet had kids living there under the bridge and lets all hope and pray we don't. But, I know these can be used at the clinic and The Homeless Shelter. Molly loves to crochet, but warm items aren't needed much down there in warm Florida, so many many thanks for your generous donation. It is needed and will be used here in cold Ohio. When I got home from work tonight at 8 ish, it was 22 and dropping. Think of those that will now be warmer! Brrrrrrrrrr

I'm raising the goal to 200, it's only January; we've lots of cold months ahead and we hit 100 sooooooooo quickly you're all to be congratulated. Please help us hit that mark for scarfs and mittens if you can. These 8 wonderful hats are knitted and crocheted by Maru. The green and gold ones are crocheted, as is the one almost solid brown hat; but the neat black and brown hat is knitted. Thanks bunches Maru. This is truly appreciated. Ding, Ding, Ding.......thats what I'm hearing cause you helped us make our first goal!!! How cool is that folks.hats Please celebrate with me, as long as you have a designated driver that is. lol Me, I'm just walking to the kitchen to poor a glass of wine and toasting you all!!!

Better than Christmas!

I'm like a kid at Christmas each time I open a pouch or box with items made from various hands, different stitches........all with the most needed and common element...LOVE. Truly. I get giddy, hubby laughs at me. I get high on the love, the caring, the commitment my fellow stitchers have. What an AWESOME group of people.

Look at the wonderful donation that came today from Ghost. 3 Hats (#66-67-68). The one Stella is wearing in the picture has the great details of popcorn stitches I think they're called. Built in ear flaps. GREAT colors! What yarn is this Ghost?

AND her specially designed chest warmer (if you're as old as me, you might remember wearing these square type vests back in the 60's). Same cool yarn. A matching scarf... (scarf #41), and DRUM ROLL............ our first mittens (Mittens #1 # 2). She's made 2 different patterns (and is still looking for yet a better one). So someone can have mitts, vest, hat and someone else can have mitts and hat or something like that. They'll be not only warm; but stylish.

The mitten pattern I was anxious to try, was one that Ghost used and says...hum; we need another one. Will let you know if I give it a whirl or try something else. But, I'm thrilled to have our first mittens. Hands get might cold. I know. For some reason I didn't have gloves or mittens in my pockets tonight when I left work. It was cold, windy, and icy. I had to scrap the windows with bare hands. Ouch. Let's see what we can do to help these folks who are out in the elements far longer than I was with mittens and or gloves.

SERIOUSLY...HATS #53-54-55-56-57-58-59-60-61-62-62 From Scarlet. THANK YOU! Look at the fun mix of colors. Nice too she made a variety of sizes to fit different sized heads! One has a bill, not sure you can tell from my photo...the far right purplish is that what they call a baseball type tobogan?

HATS 51 & 52....Scarf #39

2 Fabulous hats, both knitted from Cheryl, beautiful work. The blue-brownish multi-colored hat is a fun and different shape to it. What do you call that Cheryl? Almost like it has ear flaps which will be nice and warm. Thanks so much for helping us.

This is a really nice big scarf measures 7 inches wide and 80 inches long so one can really wrap up in this. Crocheted with simple dc. I've not seen this yarn in the stores for some time, purchased it last year. This is the 2nd scarf I've made using this yarn (might have enough left for a 3rd, must check my stash). It's Red Heart, but unsually nice, fluffy, and soft for Red Heart. It's called Zebra in the nice big super saver 244 yard skeins. Last scarf I made with this I knitted, it's interesting how differnt the color swatches look with the same yarn, knitted vs crocheted.

Plan to pass on our 5th bundle to Jan, SIL this Friday. Our friend Rae is under the weather currently. Get well SOON!

Scarf #37 & 38 and Hat # 50

crocheted poncho A grey shawl, perhaps the coming home pattern. I'll save that for another delivery, as it might be more suited to a wee warmer weather, or perhaps one of the needy ladies at the clinic. Another one of Scarlet's creations.
crocheted neck gators these are cute little neck collars, will hold these should we get children and or someone at need there at the clinic. Think I might need to get this pattern from Scarlet, can't you see this as a way to jazz up a boring blouse? That is if I ever get around to making anything for myself. lol

I might need a Calculator!!!!

I received some misc items, 2 neck collars from Scarlet, a shawl, 2 child scarfs from Molly. Thankfully at this time children are not there under the bridge living out in the elements. These items will be in reserve and or after I get with Rae next will determine if they might work for those at the clinic who are in need; but sometimes have a roof over their heads.

I've received a few notes with questions and while most of this is a repeat (some folks have joined us recently and didn't see the first couple of posts), so I'll add some info here. Our goal is to make warm items, sized appropiate for adult men as most of our homeless people living under the bridge are men such as Hats and Scarfs. We're striving for 100 each but will continue this effort once we hit the 100 mark. We need gloves and mittens as well; perhaps vests or warm sweaters. Fibers? Acrylics worsted weight and wool are both great. Solid stitches probably best for warmth, most folks consider the normal size scarf to be 5-8 inches wide and somewhere around 60 inches long.
