Donating a Crocheted Scarf

Please help me welcome Jackie D from Ohio, our newest pair of helping hands.  Jackie's crocheted and donated a scarf.  One of the ladies will enjoy this scarf.  Thank you Jackie, hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.

March's focus is afghans and quilts, and rain poncho's.  Rain poncho's are a great way for someone who doesn't knit or crochet or quilt to get in the act and help us with donations.  Poncho's help protect those living outdoors in the elements, and those waiting for a bus to get to work and or job training through the shelters.

We expanding our mission to accept quilters so I've got my toes and fingers crossed we'll get some quilts to add to our afghans for Project Welcome Home.  Please see information regarding colors and sizes etc. in the afghan tab across the top of the blog.

Have you joined the facebook group yet?  If not, please do.  Like our page and chat, both are helpful in spreading the word.  I need to ask you to friend me so I can add you to the group if we're not already connected via friends on facebook.  I can accept your friend request, but at the moment can't make anymore.  Starting the group, adding people, friending people was apparently too much too quickly which made facebook administrators think I was spam of some sort.  Irritating, but eventually I'm told my friend button will be back.  Find me as Sandy Mader Holladay on facebook, or click on my name.  There's only one of me, so...am easy to find.

Donations to Kick off March

It's March 1st, and yes that is actually sunshine you see in the picture coming from the living room picture window.  It gives us hope that it will warm up and spring will come; though I fear it's still a good while off.  I'm also getting excited to see it stay lighter a little while longer at night.  It was not totally dark the other night around 6 pm...yes here that is something to get excited about.

Thank youj Emily for this wonderful donation, it's greatly appreciated.  What a variety of goodies she sent.  10 cotton washcloths, 2 little sewing kits (the women in the shelters may be able to put those to good use), 6 pair of socks for the ladies, 2 scarves, 12 pairs of socks for the men, and plastic silverware and foam plates.  Rae will use the plastic silverware when she passes out her hot meals on Sat mornings, no doubt the plates will get put to use then as well.

Donating Knitted Hats for the Homeless

Five wonderful knitted hats made and donated by Maria P from Tennessee.  Many thanks for these super soft and warm hats.  What a nice mix of sizes and colors.  I love the variety.  Thank you for your on going support Maria and please keep up the good work.

Girl Scouts do more then Cookies

A while back you may remember our friend Marjorie M from Minnesota's connection to The Girl Scouts.  They've done it again.  The girls crocheted cotton wash cloths and slippers.  Marjorie helped them out by mailing their thoughtful donation and she added personal care items and socks.  For some silly reason, I took 2 pictures of the same thing...the slippers and socks and none of the personal care items and cotton washcloths.  Had a dumb attack apparently when I was photographing.  As you know, posts are written and placed in que and so the items have already been delivered by the time you'll read this post.  I'm working several weeks ahead on posts, so didn't realize in time to take another photograph.  Sorry girls.  I can tell you there were lots of different colors and I was thrilled to see so many of them were manly colors.

Retro Afghan for Homeless Families Foundation

 Some of you might have already seen this awesome afghan Tristi assembled for us from donated squares.  Posted it on facebook the day she passed it back to me; but also wanted to get it here in que and get it tabulated.  We named this one Retro because it reminds me of the kitchens back in the 50's.

The ghans change so much from original design to completion.  Edges, colors, joins...make such a difference.

Joint Organization for Inner-City Needs

Our good friend Lynn has been out and about, again helping with delivery of our needed knitted and crocheted goodies.  As you know, if you've been here on the blog reading previously she delivers to schools in need (Avalon, Highland, West Broad and others), Holy Family, St. Vincents and wherever she knows and finds need.  I sure appreciate her ability to take care of some of these deliveries for me.  She's recently found out about a group called, J.O.I.N.  JOIN=Joint Organization for Inner-City Needs.  They're located in downtown Columbus and serve many in need; often in rather urgent/emergency situations.  They help with food, clothing, lodging, and getting them directed to a shelter and or other organizations that can provide more on going assistance.  If, I understand this situation properly, they can be the first line of operations.

I wanted to share this lovely hand written thank you from Ruth Beckman.  She indicates the donations went to multiple areas of need.  Some again, reaching "beyond" just our city, our county of Franklin; but on into Southern Ohio.  It is through your constant and continued support that we're able to reach so many people in need.

Please know what a difference you all make.
