Helping Ohio's Homeless is a Year Long Job

Thank you Rose Marie for your thoughtful donation and your on going support for Ohio's Homeless.  It is very much appreciated.  You can see Rose Marie from Tennessee has included lots of personal care type items also: toothbrushes, tissue and hand wipes!  Hand wipes...what a great idea.  Hadn't thought about those and am anxious to hear what our friend Rae says about them, so will keep you all posted.

Thanks Rose Marie for the idea.  Seems logical living outdoors having water available all the time could be a real problem.

Keep up the good work.

Donations Help the Homeless

Our friend, RoseMarie has crocheted and donated a matching hat and scarf set with her signature decorations.  She's also included some tissues and headbands.  As always, many thanks for your thoughtful donation.  Caring and giving of others is such an awesome thing to do.  Keep up the good work!

A few reminders:
Please avoid novelty yarn, open stitches, the use of white, off-white, and non-washable fibers.
Please work ALL tails in as you knit/crochet instead of leaving them til the end.  You get a nicer result, a more secure result, AND you don't forget to do them and send them on their way with tails .  I have to lay items aside that aren't ready to be donated until I have time to complete the work.
Always, include a note with your name and email address, even if you wish to be anonymous.  I often spend HOURS, even multiple days trying to determine whom you are.  I MUST be able to communicate with the person who donated via email; and properly document the donations.

**IT IS IMPORTANT EVERYONE READ THE BLOG AS THINGS ARE UPDATED, DUE TO NEED, AND WHOM WE'RE AIDING WITH OUR DONATIONS**

Helping in Mulitple Directions

Wonderful, and creative as always are the donations from our good friend, RoseMarie.  Her signature hats and scarf, tissues, deodorant, cotton washcloths, and 3 adorable little pouches which are sized to hold a soap/klenex pack.  I've packaged both in her cute little pouches before.

And, something special here folks.  The two nice blue skeins of yarn were forwarded for our good friend Sherry K.  Why do I consider this so special?  We come to know one another here on the net, on this blog.  We communicate via pictures of our work, with kind comments about each other's work.  We share patterns and offer helpful advice to one another.  That too me is such a plus.  We all are here to help others, and I think it's special when we support and help each other.  RoseMarie no doubt knew Sherry could use a little help with yarn and so...she rose up to not only help our homeless to help our friend Sherry as well.  Kudos!  At the time of writing this scheduled post, Sherry and I have our heads together to find a time when we'll get to meet face to face...something we're both pretty excited about.

Creative, Colorful Crochet being Donated

Cute and colorful, as all the donations from our friend RoseMarie are.  Cute decorations on her hats as always.  I call them her signature mark.  She's also included some cotton washcloths which are always s big hit, and some head bands.

Click to make the photo larger, I want you to see the cute little bags she crocheted.  She's not intending them to be soap bags but a little bag people can put a few things in.  She's included a bar of soap in each little bag, and I added a couple of deodorants previously donated.  Both fit nicely into the cute crocheted draw string bag.  I bet even a toothbrush might fit in there.  Clever idea RoseMarie.  As always, many thanks for your on going support, and your creativity!

Keep up the good work.

I know the ladies will be appreciative of your work.

Help for Ohio's Homeless is Needed

Folks the weather has already started changing, colder damp nights, getting darker and cooler earlier with each passing day. Busy your hooks and needles please so we're able to meet the needs of the hundreds that are without. The hundreds that sleep out in cold in the elements, and the hundreds that spend a night here and there in a shelter, as well as those families in the family shelters...working their way to permanent housing. They all need our help. Men, Women, and Children need warm solid, non white, non wool items. PLEASE see information regarding colors and sizes in the tabs across the top of the blog BEFORE you mail a donation.

Who knows who the above thoughtful donation is from? EVERYONE! I'm smiling and know you all are too. It's from our good friend, and long time supporter, RoseMarie. Look at the cute soap sacks folks. The soap sacks as well as the washcloths are made from cotton. Perfectly done and so useable. She's included a bar of soap in the little bag as well.

Donations from The Volunteer State

Thank youi RoseMarie for your thoughtful donation and your continued support. As always you can tell these are RoseMarie's creations due to signature flowers/decorations. Crocheted slippers, hats, scarves, and squares...a variety pack.

Keep up the good work RoseMarie from the state of Tennessee.

Tennessee has several nick names, it's changed over time. But, the one that probably is best known is in fact The Volunteer State. I rather like that name and since RoseMarie's is in fact volunteering her time and talents...makes sense. However, it got that nickname because it supplied a huge number of volunteers during The War of 1812. In fact Tennessee played a huge role with it's numbers during The Battle of New Orleans. For awhile it was referred to as The Hog and Hominy State (it produced a large amount of obsolete corn and pork products during the 1830's and 1840's).

Thanks to The Civil War they became known as The Butternuts...the color their uniforms. And because of the big bend in The Tennessee River, they've been known as The Big Benders.

Scrub a Dub Dub

Think how good you feel when you take a bath or shower. Think how bad you feel when you don't. Something as basic as washing is so easy to take for granite when you have a roof over your head. People who are homeless don't have that luxury. That's right something we take granite is a true luxury to them. When we receive personal care items like this soap and cream from our good friend, and supporter RoseMarie it's luxury. These items are distributed to our family shelters (The YWCA, The Homeless Families Foundation, and Faith Mission), they are distributed to the Mens and Women Shelters provided by Faith Mission, and they are provided to the men and women living outdoors.

Many thanks RoseMarie for your thoughtful donation.

**Reminder folks, please avoid lacy stitches in your knitted/crocheted items. If you can poke your finger through...it's probably too open and therefore not as warm as it could be. We strive for warmth and durability**

WOOT Woot....How exciting is this folks, new helping hands, students and faculty from Otterbein College knitting and crocheting. They've been busy working for our cause through their group, Stitches to Share. They've mentioned our group in their article as one of the groups they're stitching for. Thank you Otterbein Community.

Buttons and Beads for the Girls

Buttons and beads decorate these donation from our good friend RoseMarie. Crocheted hats, scarves, slippers, headband, arm/hand/wrists warmers....is that the right name for the tourqoise blue item in the upper left portion of the picture? RoseMarie has included soap and fabulous cream in her donations. The cream will be wonderful for ladies outside, as well as those at the shelters. Dry rough skin is uncomfortable, can break open and bleed and be sore; the cream will be well received.

Thanks so much RoseMarie for your ongoing support of the cause.

Let's encourage each other with comments on the beautiful donations received. You do NOT need to be a blogger to leave a comment. Type your comment, click the drop down box that says name and url, leave the url portion blank. That's it....very easy. Hoping some of you who've been shy about leaving comments will help us out and give it a go.**

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
