Warming Ohio's Homess

The awesome cowl (top right) was knitted by my Darling Daughter.  I LOVE the colors and the yarn is so nice and soft and warm.  I knitted the purple scarf with a mix of garter and stockinette stitches in sorta block formation.  The socks are a mix of slipper socks (still in the white package bank) with non skid bottoms (4 pairs), and 3 pairs short ankle socks.

Over the last couple of weeks I've blogged about various charities you might like to support; as Bridge and Beyond will cease operations this Dec 31.  Please mail your final donations by Dec 24th.

Some of the charities aid the homeless, some pregnant women, some kids transitioning out of foster care, and native Americans on Pine Ridge Reservation.  Locations vary, so you might find one of the charities listed is in your area, or close to you like a border state; making postage perhaps less costly.

Below is the listing with a very brief description, but PLEASE click on the links to see details about what they accept, what fiber to use, who benefits from the charity and where to mail items.

Afghans for Pine Ridge (Ravelry Group completed Afghans with options for 6-8- and 12 inch squares)

Red Scarf Project (benefits kids transitioning out of foster care

Warm Up American (Benefits homeless and others in need, rectangles, hats and scarves, or make your own full afghan).

StreetKnit (Benefits homeless in Oklahoma, accepts afghans, lapghans, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks (not store bought); as well as yarn and knitting needles.

Homeless Families Foundation and Faith Mission (benefits homeless for those that are local and can deliver donations in Columbus, Ohio.

Salvation Knitters (Ravelry Group)(benefits two charities in Lansing Michigan, that focus on pregnant mothers and their babies, getting them off the streets.)

Welcome Blankets, Lapghans for Refugees (knitted, crocheted, sewn and or quilted)

It's a Family Affair

Thank you Hubby!  Hubby doesn't knit or crochet, but he said, I can do socks.  So socks he did.  A bakers dozen.  We've had nights and early mornings in the 30's already, so the need for warm things is indeed upon us.  To my way thinking, it's  seems to have come way to early this year.  Some trees are almost bare from leaves already down, and I have zero flowers left blooming in the yard........<Sigh>  Fall is here.  And from how busy the squirrels seem to be burying goodies throughout the yard, I fear that means winter won't be mild.

Thank you Hubby, 13 people will have warmer feet because of your donation.

It's a family affair.  This awesome knitted mobius/infinity scarf/cowl was knitted and donated by my Darling Daughter!   I LOVE the colors.  The yarn is soooooo nice and soft.   Click the picture to enlarge so you can see the details (remember you can do that with all pictures on the blog).   There some nice texture, I don't remember what stitch pattern she used.    Whomever receives this awesome mobius/infinity scarf/cowl will be thrilled.  They'll be warm and stylish.

AND, she's been busy knitting up some yarn from my stash.  LOVE these colors together, but, am trying to determine how to put together for a ghan.  Sometimes, that's interesting part of using up stash.  Knit or crochet until you run out of yarn, and then see what you can put together.  You can see 9 strips of the beautiful variegated, and 5 strips of the solid blue.   This design is funky in that the strips on the left side are vertical and the stripes on the rights side are horizontal.  Plus the placement of blue strips isn't uniform.

This possible design is with only 4 of the solid blue strips and 10 of the variegated.   The  2 sides are even in that they each have the same number of blue and variegated strips, but again you have the vertical vs the horizontal.

Open to opinions of which design you like best and or other suggestions.  I also need to check my stash, as I think I have some purple, which I think I would like to use for edging and joining.

AND, if you're a regular reader, you know I always name the afghans that are assembled.  How about Purple Haze for this one?

Again thank you Dear Hubby and Darling Daughter!  Keep up the good work and know it makes a difference to many.

Knitted Thanksgiving Afghan Travels to Ohio

Thank you Darling Daughter!  My Darling Daughter knitted this lapghan and brought it home in her suitcase when she visited for Thanksgiving!!  Love it.  Love the colors, so nice and soft made with Lion Brand Homespun.  Pink, Raspberry, Purple (sorta Heather), and a pretty green, though the picture isn't showing the colors very well.

This brings us one closer to our goal of matching last year.  We have about 35 days and need 29 afghans...can it happen?

Many thanks Darling Daughter, whomever gets this to snuggle up in will be thrilled.

I've posted about this little button previously. Perhaps you've seen it? It's called Superpoints. To join, you need to invited. So, I'm inviting you all. Why? Several reasons. It's fun, you watch video's, you can play games, you can clip coupons and save money, you can buy things and get special deals, you can spin the wheel. In all cases you earn points. Points are awesome and can be used in a variety of ways. You convert points into gift cards and or cash. There's a nice selection of gift cards to choose from too. Perhaps you like Best Buy, or Pizza Hut...I've chosen Amazon Gift Cards thus far when I convert points, but you can also convert to PayPal and earn money. Amazon has everything under the sun for yourself, and your family. Use it for your Christmas Fund if you like.

Previously I converted and order myself 2 needle holders, and the other I received a yarn organizer I'd ordered. In my previous post I suggested this could be a fund raiser for you and or your organization, or that you might want to use it to get socks for our folks under The Bridge and or in the shelters.

However, now I want to ask a favor of you. You are all big hearted and do what you can to help others. The proof of that is here on this blog, Bridge and Beyond day after day. Please join today, using the link HERE and or above by clicking on the button. You'll be helping my DD who's attempted to help kids in need in Missouri (St. Louis) obtain books and school supplies. She's an educator in St. Louis and works with kids in need. You're joining will help her with her cause AND give you the ability to do your own thing with the points you earn. Please help me help her, help those who need us all. Do let me know if you've joined. I'm happy to help you get started.

3 Important things, joining is FREE, fast and easy. You start earning points when you verify your email address and fill out your profile. The more you do, the more points you earn. Once you've joined, I suggest using a 2nd email address for things like surveys and deals....will help you keep your influx of emails separated.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
