Loomed Hats and Wrist Warmers Aid The Homeless

Thank you Anna W for this awesome donation!!  Anna and her loom work wonders.  Loomed hats are always nice and thick, so nice and warm.  They have a double band which is great for keeping ears warm.  AND special thanks for taking time to label each hat with size.

Her wrist warmers are long then some patterns and as a result really help with warm.  They come well up the arm and cover the hand to to about the knuckle area.  They have the nice double band like the hats, so stay up nicely on the arms.

Wonderful color choices Anna.  These nice dark colors really help when folks don't have the ability to do laundry, as they don't show the dirt easily.  These colors are also great for our men folks, but still work for woman as well.  Remember folks, homeless people don't like to stand out, so dark colors vs bright colors really are better for them.

Scarves for The Homeless

Thank you Amelia L for these crocheting and donating these two scarves.  These scarves were part of her earlier donation of cotton washcloths, click here.  These scarves will work well for men or women, given their color.  Please click to see the detail in the different stitches she used.

The earlier post was listed as an anonymous donation, which was an error on my part.  I had misplayed the note that accompanied the donation and cleaning a few things off my desk found it!  YIPPEE, can now properly document her lovely donation.

Many thanks Amelia and please keep up the good work.

Thank you Christina for your Donation to Aid The Homeless

Such a fun and colorful donation of knitted goodies from our friend, Christina D.  These were delivered to my doorstep.  Look at all the nice color combinations in her corner to corner (Grandm's favorite) cotton washcloths!  Click to enlarge so you can see all the colors, the fun variegated mixes.  These cloths have several purposes and are always so well received by all who receives them.

AND, while it might be summer and hot across the country, wet nights can still be uncomfortable and cold for those living out in the elements, so hats are needed all year long.  Certainly less in terms of numbers in the warmer months, but still they get used.  Those that aren't used for current purposes are stocked at the shelters so when weather turns they are prepared and not caught off guard.  That's why we collect and donate all year long, and not just in the colder months.

Nice hat colors that will work for both men and women.

As always, many thanks and please keep up the good work and know what a difference you make in the lives of those less fortunate.

Woot Woot...did you notice this donation of cotton washcloths puts us just over the half way mark to our goal!!

A Bakers Dozen Donated

I'm probably aging myself here, but anyone else remember the saying a "bakers dozen?"

Well, I did a google search and this is what I got:
Baker's dozen means 13, instead of 12. The tale behind its origin is that a mediaeval law specified the weight of bread loaves, and any baker who supplied less to a customer was in for dire punishment. So bakers would include a thirteenth loaf with each dozen just to be safe.

So there you have it.  In this anonymous donation of 13 cotton washcloths I couldn't help but think of that saying.  As you can see there's quite a bit of size variations in this donation so, some will work for the younger set, and by color some will work for men, while others perfect for the ladies.

Cotton Washcloths have several uses, so these are always well appreciated by those who receive them.

Please keep up the good work, and if you didn't intend on this nice donation being anonymous, please sing out to me, either here on the blog via a comment...or use the contact form on this blog, or email me.

Many thanks!

**Edited to say this nice donation was from Amelia L, and was dropped off at my door.

Generous Donations From Florida, Help Homeless

Thank you Laura E for your wonderful donations.  I've been behind so am posting Laura E last 2 donations together.  As you can see, she has been very busy.  The above picture is actually her 2nd donation, and despite my posting  the other picture first...so they would be in order, blogger apparently had other ideas, lol.  No matter in this picture you can see her generous donation of knitted hats, cotton washcloths, and scarves.  And lot and lots of good personal care items: Wipes, toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste, razors, deodorant...and band aides.  W hat a great idea Laura E.  She's also included socks.
And this picture is actually her first donation which has socks, knitted hats, scarves, and cotton washcloths.  In both pictures you can see how she nicely tags her hats with size.  Many thanks for doing that.  It truly saves the volunteers so much time and helps get the item to the right people quicker.

As always Laura, many thanks for all you do.  Please know what an important difference you've made in the lives of many in need.  Keep up the good work.

Socks Rock!

Thank you Tara B for your ongoing delivery of socks!  Tara has set up a recurring order through Amazon to have socks delivered here  at Bridge and Beyond.  I've said it before, but will say it again.  I think she's brilliant.  She says herself time, and postage.

Socks are needed all year long, even in warm weather.  While we've been having warmer weather, we're currently in another cold snap, as well as wet snap.  We're over our goal which is very exciting, as we're not quite to the half way point in the year...but that doesn't lessen the need for warm dry socks.  When you're living out in the elements being able to change into dry warm socks is a wonderful thing.  AND even those folks sleeping at night in the shelters, still are outside during the day.  Most shelters require people to leave during the day, so the chances they may get caught in the rain is substantial.

Many thanks Tara for your on going support.  Please keep up the good work and know how much you and your donations are appreciated.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
