18 Degrees in Central Ohio, Thank you Phyllis for Helping the Homeless

Spotted this picture the other day on Facebook, it's not local...it's not even here in the United States.  This pictures was taken on Ha'Penny Bridge in Dublin.  But, isn't this a wonderful idea.  People hang their extra coats on the bridge for someone who is in need.  I didn't really see an article with any information beyond the caption, so am unsure how substantial homelessness is for people in Dublin.  I also don't remember there being any discussion of it when I toured Dublin a few years ago.  With the exception being a reference to "travelers" that camp.  Gypsies who park their trailers places.  Gypsies and Travelers are both nomadic peoples, but of different ethnic origins.  Travelers are Irish, while Gypsies are Romany who are said to have originated in India long long ago.

Same idea, outside a restaurant, someplace here in the US.

I'm showing you those pictures for 2 reasons:

  1. I found it interesting and wonder how much things like this happen that we just don't know about.
  2. I like having pictures with a post and for some reason, though I have a note with the count of Phyllis G's donation from the sunny Florida, I can find no picture on my computer.  This is about the 3rd time I've had issues when transferring pictures from my phone to the computer.  I guess in reality, only 3 pictures isn't bad......considering how many pictures I take and transfer either by emailing them to myself or by plugging in with a USB port, but.....still it's frustrating.

Phyllis was very busy and made 12 hat and scarf sets, and an additional 3 hats.  They were all very nicely made, good colors, and a variety of sizes to help warm a variety of people.  I'm so sorry I don't have a picture of generous donation to share with you all.  I've held off posting, as I kept looking in various files on the computer thinking I would find it.........argh, no joy I'm afraid.

Thank you Phyllis and please keep up the good work.  As I type this post this morning, it is only 18 degree's out there.  I'm cold here in the house, sipping my hot coffee, waiting for the furnace to warm things up.  So, Please know all of you who knit, crochet, and or loom.........are indeed helping.

Donating Sunshine and Warm Knitted Items Helps Cold Homeless

YIPPEE!!  Look at this awesome and very generous donation from our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from Sunny Florida.  I've often teased and said she should package up some sunshine when she sends her donation.  Click to enlarge if you're not seeing it.  She did!  Seriously...we rarely get sunshine coming through the windows here in central Ohio in the winter; but this day...the day I took the photo..........we did.  Special thanks Sandra!

Kidding aside though folks, look at this wonderful donation of hats, scarves, mittens, and fingerless gloves.  There are some matching sets also.  Lots of colors, lots of styles, and lots of sizes.  Something for everyone.  Great solids that will blend in.  She always takes the time to tag her hats, and mittens with size.  Thank you, Thank you Sandra.  You've warmed up so many with your big heart and talented hands through the years.

Please keep up the good work and know how much it matters in the lives of others.

New Helping Hands Help Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sharon M for this thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies to warm Ohio's Homeless.  Sharon has donated scarves and personal care items.  LOVE the colors of the scarf in the lower right of the picture.  The brown and green are such a nice combination.  Both colors are good for men or women, which is another plus.  Please click to enlarge the picture folks, I want you to see the texture in this scarf.  Very nice.  Sorta waffle like, which makes the scarf feel spongy and thick.

The gray/salmon color scarf could be used as a shawl because of it's size.  Either way it will be nice for someone to wrap up and get warmer.

Sharon M is our newest pair of helping hands.  YIPPEE!!  We're always happy to have more helping hands here on Bridge and Beyond.  The more pairs of hands, the more donations, the more donations, the more people we can warm.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family, and that you stayed warm and safe with all the nasty weather that's about our country.

Crocheted Scarves Donated to Bridge and Beyond

Scarves!  LOTS of different colors.  Thank you Cynthia B for this generous donation of crocheted scarves to help Bridge and Beyond warm the homeless in need.  Click folks to see the variety in her stripes and colors.  I particularly like the one in the front on the left...the black-red-gray........looks very Buckeye-ish.  So does the the red 2 up from that with black and gray.

Cynthia has been very busy, there are 20 scarves!  Well actually, 19 in the picture.  After I picked them up to bag them for delivery, realized I missed one that was sitting on the chair beside this area, so her donation is 20 scarves!!  Woot woot, 20 additional warmer people.

Folks, please check out our goals in the right side bar.  All the numbers are growing which is exciting as we're definitely into the cold weather now here in central Ohio.  With this donation, we're almost at the 50% mark for scarves.  Getting real close.

Many thanks Cynthia and please keep up the good work.  You've made an important difference in the lives of 20 people in need.

Helping Cold Homeless With Donations

Thank you Stephanie S for this thoughtful donation.  Stephanie has crocheted a couple of cowls/mobious/neck gators....lol, so many names, I'm sure there are more.  She also included a cotton washcloth in her donation to help Ohio's Homeless in need.

Stephanie is our newest pair of helping hands and we're so happy to have you join us.  Keeping people warm is no small task.  There are many who need help, so the more pairs of helping hands we have the more people we can keep warm.

It's hard for me to believe how quickly this year has past.  As I typed this post, it's almost Thanksgiving.  Where has the time gone?  Our weather here in Central Ohio got cold earlier than normal, seems to be wetter than normal as well.  Please do what you can with your crochet hooks, yarn, knitting needles, and looms.  Also, please help spread the word as you talk to other crafters.

Many thanks to all who help, it is really appreciated by those in need.

Loomed Hats Help the Homeless

Thank you Karen S for this thoughtful and generous donation!!  Karen has been busy with her loom knitting these wonderful warm hats.  Loomed hats are always so nice and warm because they're made with a double thickness of yarn.  Additionally, they have the brim area which is actually thicker still.

What a nice mix of colors Karen.  Something here for men and women.  AND I love how you've upped your game with the adorable size tags.  Folks, please click so you can see the details.  She's cut out hearts, added the size to the hearts, punches a hold and tied on the hats with yarn.  Really nicely done.

We ask everyone to tag their hats with size, as it helps the volunteers at the various shelters get items into the right area for quick distribution to the folks in need.

8 People will know they are cared for with this lovely donation.  As Always Karen, please keep up the good work and know you make a difference in the lives of many.

*****hey folks did you notice the goal counter in the left side bar.....with this donation, we're now just over 40% of our goal for hats!!!

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
