Knitted and Crocheted Cotton Washcloths.

Crocheted Cotton Washcloths, tied to make pouch and hold a bar of soap.  You might remember seeing this picture, though it was a really cute way to present a cotton washcloth. (Diana K's creation if memory serves me right).
Or knitted ones with designs......knitted or crocheted cotton washcloths are a nice way to donate without a huge time expenditure.  All the shelters, as well as those living in the elements love the hand made cotton washcloths.

Here's the tab for the cotton washcloths

While not an item that keeps people warm, they are still appreciated.  If you've missed the last several days, please scroll back.  We've been comparing our donations from the years 2012 2013 to our current year as of March 26th.  We've compared Mittens, Slippers, Afghans, Rain Poncho's, Socks and now knitted or crocheted cotton washcloths.

In 2012 we donated 27, in 2013 152 (wow, what a jump), and thus far this year 130.

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated. The Power of One is awesome, and when we work together The Power of One becomes The Power of Many.

Afghans are a Celebration

Afghans, this is one I made a few years back for my nephew, shuttering as I remember all those ends to tuck in.........was a LONG time before I made one with that many changes again.  Really like the look, but not my favorite to work on.

I assemble (with the help of Tristi and Sherry) afghans from your donated squares.  But, I still have an abundance of squares, so please don't send anymore.........at least not now.  Those afghans as well as the beautiful ones you've made (both knitted and crocheted) have been donated to families as they transition from shelter to permanent housing.

Still using the date of March 26th, here's how we stand.  In 2012 we donated 17 afghans, in 2013 8, and so far this year, 2014 we've donated 11.

Here's the link to the afghan tab, please take a look and consider making an afghan, or quilt.

Rain Poncho's and Socks aid the Homeless

These socks were previously donated, but I like to have pictures whenever possible with our posts.  Socks are needed primarily for men, both those living out in the elements and those in temporary housing.  Cold wet feet make a person miserable.  Socks, store bought is an item non knitters and crocheters can donate to be involved......to help the homeless.

If you've missed the last 2 posts, please scroll back.  One post compared numbers of donations for mittens, and the other slippers.

Using the same date March 26th for all these reflections.  In 2012 we had donated 102 pairs of socks, in 2013 120 pairs...nice bump and thus far this year only 49 pairs.  If you're able we'ld love to bump up those numbers.  If you have friends who'd like to help but don't knit or crochet, please make the suggestion.

Rain poncho's, another item non knitters and crocheters can donate.  Small and lightweight, but such a good item particularly for those living out in the elements.  Also come in hand for those waiting for buses which many of our folks living in temporary shelters do as their job searching or getting job training to get back on the feet.

In 2012 by March 26th 2 poncho's were donated, same number for the following year 2013, and thus far this year we've donated 5.

Knitted or Crocheted Mittens Needed

 Knitted Mittens
Crocheted Mittens

Mittens are always requested and probably the item we just never have enough of.

Reviewing again (yesterday we reviewed slippers, if you missed the post, please scroll back), to see how we're doing based on other years with our mitten donations.  Using the same date March 26th, in 2012 we had donated 120 pairs of mittens, on the same date in 2013 we had only donated 20 pairs, and this year we've managed to donate 16 pairs.

Mittens aren't the easiest to make, I know!  If you're one who enjoys mittens, we'ld love to keep you busy.  If you're one who'd like to try something new...........give a go please with making mittens.  Mittens are needed by school children, teens, and adults.

Here's the Mitten tab with lots of needed information and some patterns you might like to give a whirl. CLICK HERE

Knitted and Crocheted Slippers Needed

These slippers were donated, pictured and counted previously... but thought we should have a picture to go with this post; so am re-posting it.

Sometimes it's nice to know how we stand numbers wise to what we've donating in the past.  The last post with numbers here was March 26th, and so using that date thought I'd share this with you.
In 2012 by March 26th we had donated 48 pairs of slippers, in 2013 on the same date we had donated 107 pairs of slippers, and this year on that date we've donated 39 pairs of slippers.  So, if you've mind too........care to make slippers?

Things to remember with slippers is durable, thick (using two strands together works well), dark colors, closed tight stitches as above.  If you're crocheting single crochet works well.

Here's the link for the slipper tab, take a look at some patterns we've posted.  Slippers are needed for children, teens, women and men.  Slippers are donated to both folks in the shelters and the men living under the bridges.  Gives them a chance to perhaps wash their socks and have something dry and warm to put on.

Please review the slippers tab for additional information.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
