Hats, Scarves, Mittens and More

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation.  Folks if you missed the previous post, please scroll back, it shows 3 afghans which were also a part of this donation from our good friend Sandra R from sunny Florida.  It looks to me like she doesn't sleep!  Look how many hats, cotton wash cloths and mittens in addition to those 3 afghans...........AND
Scarves!  Please click the picture to enlarge so you can see the details.  She's knitted has with several different styles.  The 2nd row from the left are tube like hats that can have a folded brim, where the other hats are more rounded with lots of different texture.  AND of course you know I was clapping when I saw the mittens.  So many different colors in both her hats and scarves.  Such a nice variety.  All the hats and mittens are tagged with size.  Special thanks for doing that, it really saves time for the volunteers at the shelter.

As always, many thanks for all you do Sandra R, and please keep up the good work.  You really make a difference, an important one.

Knitted and Crocheted Afghans for the Homeless

Woot Woot!  We're getting such a good start on our goal for afghans!  Thank you Sandra R from sunny Florida for these awesome afghans.  This first afghan is crocheted, corner to corner with a shell type stitch.  It's nice and warm, very solid. LOVE the colors, cherry but dark enough to work for a man or a woman.
This second afghan is knitted with a dozen large squares and is, to my way of thinking a very modern take on granny squares.  I love the look.  Basically 6 colors with the off white as the joiner, primarily and the 7th color.  This must have been fun to make because it's so new and different.  AND this is sized so nicely will be suitable for an entire family.
And this one is the very traditional crocheted granny squares 14 in a row and 10 rows.  LOTS of changing colors and tucking ends.  But, oh so pretty.  Again the style, and color will work for a man or a woman, AND the size is nice and large for a family.  Well done Sandra R.

With these 3 afghans our count is climbing fast to 6 with our goal being 30, 1/5th of the way there.  I'm feeling really good about us hitting and surpassing that goal.

Please pop back in, this isn't Sandra's whole donation, I have more pictures of goodies for you.

Crocheted Scarves For Those in Need

Our good friend, Sandie P from Louisiana is back at it with more scarves.  These crocheted scarves are both made with yarn that changes shades.  The turquoise is so pretty, I'm sure one of the ladies will really be happy to wrap up in this.

The grayish-purple-blue will work well for a male.  Please click to see the details in the texture of the stitches she used to make this scarf.  Very cool, particularly I think with the way the shading shows it off.

Not sure what type of yarn Sandie used, but it's very nice and soft.  Well done Sandie and please keep up the good work.

I often wear scarves in the house, having a warm neck helps keep the rest of me warmer, so I know how well received scarves are for our homeless friends.

Hats and Scarves Warm the Homeless

Thank you Karen S for this thoughtful donation of crocheted scarves and loomed/knitted hats.  Karen is starting us out with both hats and scarves for the year 2021.

As always, remember to click the picture to enlarge (you can always do that here on Bridge and Beyond), so you can see the details.  She's made her cute heart shaped tags for size...such a nice tough.

In 2020 we knitted/crocheted and donated 351 hats, which was about 50% of our goal of 685, however that 351 was better than we did the year before in 2019 with 300.  I've set the goal for 2021 at 323, which is our average of the last 4 years, so hopefully, we'll pass that by and maybe even donate more than we did in 2020.

Karen has also started us off with scarves for the new year.  In 2020 we donated 146 scarves which was less than our goal of 218.  I've set the new goal which is the average of the last 4 years to 209, we'll have to work to meet that goal I think, since it's considerably higher than where we were last year.

As always Karen, many thanks and please keep up the good work.

Donated Socks Warm Cold Feet of the Homeless

Thank you Tara B for starting off our year with this great sock donation.  When you live out in the elements, or get nights at a shelter; having clean dry socks is HUGE!!  We've all had cold wet feet and it's miserable.  Especially when getting relief from that situation is so difficult.

Tara B has set up a recurring order of socks from Amazon.  When she first told me about this, I thought........BRILLANT!!  She doesn't have to take the time to shop, or package things up and pay shipping.  Amazon delivers directly to me.

We donated 107 pairs of socks in 2020, but had a couple of very lean years so our average for the last 4 years is only 79.  Though I have listed that as our goal, I feel confidant we can meet and exceed that.  So, thank you Tara for getting us started with these 6 pairs and 73 to go.

First Donation for 2021

More afghans from our friend, Marsha M.  You may remember my telling you I filled the car when I picked these up from her some time back and have been working through the pile to launder and block them.  So these 3 afghans begin our count for the new year, 2021.  This bright neon colored ghan is styled with 2 large center squares joined and then edged.  Some youngin will no doubt enjoy this.
This pretty blue and purple ghan is a shell pattern, light and airy and will appeal to a teenage girl or perhaps single woman as a lapghan.  Looks like the ocean to me.  AND thinking about the ocean right now in the middle of winter makes me smile.  AND did you notice sunshine coming through the window on the day I photographed this one.  This style lapghan/ghan is worked side to side.
Another granny square styled with smaller squares (15) and then edged.  These colors remind me of fall and leaf color, or perhaps the period when we all had harvest gold, burnt orange and or avocado green appliances.

I've kept you all guessing how many ghans/lapghans Marsha crocheted over these past couple of years.  Yes that's why the car was so full it was several years worth of her crocheting.  We ended 2020 with her count of 25 and so now she's at 28...pssss, but not done, so please do keep coming back and I will continue to launder and block, as she cares for her husband.

Our 2020 goal for afghans was 24 and we collected and donated 40, so did well with going over goal.  This years goal is 30, the average of our last 4 years.  So, let's see if we can match or exceed our new slightly higher goal.  3 down and 27 more to go.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
