Navajo Afghan

Took this picture sometime back when this afghan was first designed.  It's made from donations of (scarves)/strips that were too small to be scarves.  The colors are a bit off in the picture due to winter lighting on a cloudy day here in central Ohio where the winter gray is sooooooo prevalent.  I named this afghan Navajo, as both my DD and I thought it had the look of a Navajo blanket.

It traveled with me on my recent trip to Hilton Head (the reason no posts in the last couple of weeks here on Bridge and Beyond), as one of 3 afghans I worked on.  Happy to say it's now completed.

And the lighting there, as you can see, is much better than the dull gray of Central Ohio.  LOL  YOu might notice a few changes as to placement of the stripes and the final gray one above was not used, as it just didn't fit-size wise.  No doubt it will be used on down the road in something else.  I did end up edging and joining this ghan in gray as I previously thought I would.  I even managed to launder and block it there in Hilton Head....it's laid out here in a nice out of the way spot at the condo to allow it to dry.  It's a bit smaller than some of the ghans, but will still work nicely as a lap throw for an adult and or bed size for a youth.

I have quite a bit of catching up to do with opening boxes (delayed due to the wkend and then holiday on my return), so please stay tuned for donations from: Frances M from New Jersey, Diane L from California, Ruth A from Virginia, Emily K from Nebraska, Barbara F from NY, and AnneMarie from NY; as well as other ghans I worked on while away.

I'm going to try something a little different with keeping our stats.  I'm listing our end numbers from 2015 and will subtract our current number as means of keeping our goal in front of us.  I'll show the goal number in Red.  Let's strive not just to match last years numbers, but.........work towards even more.  Thank you for all you do.  As time goes on, we won't see the year end numbers, we'll see the previous goal and subtract the new donation from it.  Hopefully we'll find this helpful and not too cumbersome...if so, we'll return to our previous format.

Crocheted Blue Hats Help Homeless

Thank you Som P from Virginia for this thoughtful donation of crocheted hats.  As you can see she's included a variety of sizes in her blue variegated donation.  This blue works well for men or women.  You might remember Som used to live in Hawaii.  She's now moved and is still crocheting and donating to Bridge and Beyond to help Ohio's Homeless.

Many thanks Som, please keep up the good work.

Woot woot, more lovely warm knitted hats from our good friend Sandra R in Florida.  16 more heads will be warmed thanks to her skillful hands and generosity.  As always, Sandra's has tagged each hat with size....many thanks for doing this.  Her donation includes hats of various sizes, colors, and styles...all beautifully made and soft and warm!  If you scroll back you'll see 3 other pictures of hats and afghans that comprised her 2 box donation to start us off so nicely during this cold month of January into our new year.

Many thanks Sandra, please keep up the good work.  YOU ROCK!!

Thank you Darlene H. for this thoughtful and warm donation and scarves.  While our primary mission is handmade (knitted or crocheted or loomed) goods, Darlene found an awesome sale of warm mittens and thankfully.........she didn't turn them down.  11 pairs of hands will be warmer now.........so nice, as mittens are an item difficult for many to make, and we rarely get enough to cover the need.  In addition Darlene knitted 2 hats (lower right corner).

If you've been to the blog a number of times here on Bridge and Beyond, you I clap and dance in the streets when we receive mittens.........Thank you Darlene.

Crocheted Afghan Sends Warm and Sunshine from Florida for Ohio's Homeless

Another awesome crocheted afghan from our good friend Sandra R from Florida.  And...look she included sunshine for us.  If only it were that simple, sending sunshine that is.  But, we did actually have sun shining in through the windows the day this photo was taken (scroll back there were others as part of her large donation), however.......it was 3 or 4 that day so certainly cold!

Afghans are donated to Homeless Families Foundation and used as part of the Welcome Home Pack they all get when they transition from shelter living to a permanent housing situation.  Something to be celebrated.  Our afghans say congrats to them, they wish them well for a brighter future.  Afghans can be family heirlooms.

Thank you Sandra for all you do.  This afghan is large enough for a family afghan and the color will suit a family, a male, or a female.  Nicely done!

New Helping Hands from Virginia aid Homeless in Ohio

Thank you Lisa Z from Virginia for this thoughtful donation of crocheted scarves and cotton washcloths.  Lisa is our newest pair of helping hands.  Thrilled to have you join us here on Bridge and Beyond to help the homeless.  As always, remember you can click to enlarge pictures folks.  Check out the fall colored cotton cloth in the left lower corner.........LOVE those colors, looks almost like argyle to me the way the colors came out.  Variegated yarn is always fun, you just really don't know it will pattern itself.  I've never seen this particular color before, but Lisa tells me she purchased it from A.C. Moore.  We don't have those here in my neck of the woods, but thought I'd mention it, in-case any of you do and want to look for some.

Many thanks Lisa, hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
