Do You Speak Crochet?

LOL...got a kick out of this the other day when I saw it on Facebook.  It does indeed look like a foreign language to folks who don't crochet doesn't it.

Are you bilingual?  Do you speak crochet?  I do she says with a smile.

Folks it's been below 60 the last week here at night, getting cool to quickly for this time of year, I do hope you've all got yarn at hand, to do what you can to help others.

Thank you.

Coalition for Homeless, Street Card for Homeless

These pages though a bit hard to read in picture format are what they call a street card and for anyone local a nice item to have on hand if you see someone in need.  And for those not local, check your city services to see if they have a similar item.  Print a few and keep in your car, or available in your church or other organizations you might belong to.
You can see this is a pretty extensive list, making you feel there's lots of help out there. And there is a good bit; but.........do the people who need know what's available?  Do the people who help know who to call,or have a phone to make the call?  Do those in need have transportation to get to the location where help might be available?  You'll note bus stop locations are included on this street card, which is an important peace.  Despite this list there are still many many people in need.  Here in central  Ohio the last stat I saw indicated  on any given night there were 12,000 here in central Ohio only.

Another difficulty with getting help can be couples vs singles.  Take another look at the list, you see single men, single  women, families, you don't see couples listed so if a man and a woman are together and in need of help that makes it more difficult, not impossible......but harder.  People need help, not roadblocks.

Please check your local area, do you have something like this street card  in your area?  PLEASE, let me know in your comments below, in an email, or in the contact me button in the right side bar.  I would love you to send me your area's equivalent help form.  Let's get some of these posted, to help others become more aware and encourage participation.  The weather's been chilly here already, way too early it feels like fall with it dipping  down to the 50's and 60's already at night.  I'm hopeful summer will return because if it's this cool now, I dread thinking how cold and long the fall and winter will be.

Got Yarn?  Don't leave home with out it folks.  The Homeless Need Your Help!

Hats and Scarves of Many Colors

Look at this wonderful  donation by our dynamic duo...the sisters again, Catherine and Wendy H.  Hats and scarves in every imaginable color and then some.  Both the hats and scarves come in a variety of sizes so some will work for the kiddo's,some for the ladies and a possibly the men folk as well.  I'm partial to the blackhat with orange stripes, looks like team colors that I think folks will go  for.  AND maybe that nice solid blue scarf, after all who doesn't like blue. One of the colors always good for either gender.
Keep up the good work ladies.  Dynamic Duo and Caring Sisters...very cool.

Thank you Thank you Yvonne S.  What a nice donation of warm fee.  16 pairs of socks so very necessary for our folks living in the elements.  Truly it doesn't matter what time of year or the weather, clean dry socks are so needed.  She also included lots of personal items in her thoughtful donation.  Personal care items such as toothpaste, chapstick, toothpaste etc.

Crocheted Donations from a Dynamic Duo

A wonderful donation from our dynamic duo.......the sisters Wendy H and Catherine W.  Hats and scarves of varying sizes and  colors.  Some of the hats look large enough for the men folk, some small enough for the kiddos, and the others should work for the ladies as I begin to sort them.

I'm particularly drawn to the orange with blue stripes.  Doesn't it look like someone's team colors?

Keep up the good work ladies!  I love that you're able to donate as sisters, pretty special that way.

*Do pop back in folks, this is just part I of their thoughtful donation.  Sisters Rock!

Weekend Forecast for Knitters and Crocheters

Well, since it's the weekend...even though it's the last day of the weekend, it seemed a good way to begin getting caught up was to share this cute t-shirt and saying with you all.  Spotted it some time back on Facebook it made me chuckle.  Most of you know I really enjoy wine, so a shirt combining both wine and crocheting and or knitting.........well, just couldn't resist.  I have to say I enjoy seeing these various shirts and saying that I share with you, but I've never purchased one, nor have I seen anyone wearing one.

Have you?

Sorry it's been a week since  I've posted folks.  Life has gotten a bit busier than normal.  I do still work, but then you all probably know that.  What's been the added business of late is getting involved in a local community effort to save our 911.  Our city manager and council want to outsource it to save money; but many of us in the community feels it's super important not to do that.  We feel saving lives is more important than trimming costs.  Our particularly safety services has been rated as one of the top 8 in the country and the city they want to outsource to has dispatch times much much slower.  At a minimum 4 x slower.  Having been in the medical field (and I know many of you are), I know how important time is in an emergency.  So, we've been having meetings to explain to the public the downside of this, walking door to door passing out flyers and obtaining signatures.

The plus side of things, with all the walking to pass out flyers etc, I'm getting LOTS of steps in.  I've posted before about how important getting steps is (I wear a fitbit) to help with my arthritis and to reduce cholesterol...so things in that department are doing well.

Enjoy  the funny, hope you're all doing well and enjoying August........can't believe how fast the summer has gone.  People are talking about football (groan), and buying back to school clothes and supplies already.  Time sure goes fast.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
