Personal Care Items and Donation Goals for Bridge and Beyond

Personal Items I collected on my last out of town venture.  Hubby and Darling Daughter and I spend some time out in Park City, Utah.  It's a ski town about 45 minutes from Salt Lake.  We've enjoyed going there in July for about 10 years now.  The weather is fabulous, 80-90 degrees during the day and next to no humidity and cools off at night 50-60's.  You're in the mountains after all.  YEARS ago, when we young and hurt less to fall AND we were less fearful of broken bones, we did go in the winter and actually ski.  But, those days are long gone.

So, I collected up the shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion left in our rooms to add to our donations.  If you travel for pleasure or business it's such an easy thing to do and is always so well appreciated by those who receive our donations.  So, next time you travel; please consider doing this.

Have you noticed our graphs growing?  Our donation goal graphs?  Please look directly above this post and to the right side side.  We have goal graphs to monitor how we're doing against our goals.  Our goals represent last years totals.  I'm please to say we're at over 50% of our goals for two of our donation categories.

Cotton Cloths, our graph shows us to be at .5904% of our goal of 347!  AND, our sock graph shows us at over 50% also at .5197% of our goal of 152 pairs of socks.  Always get pretty excited when we hit the half way mark, so please keep up the good work folks, and please keep an eye on the graphs and watch those numbers grow with your thoughtful donations.

Donating Personal Care Items and More!

Thank you Sue S for this awesome donation of goodies to help Ohio's Homeless here on Bridge and Beyond.  Sue's included lots of personal care items:
Female sanitary supplies (something often over looked)
soap
toothbrushes
dental floss
creams
chap-stick (needed in all season for dry cracked uncomfortable lips)

She's been busy knitting and has donated cotton washcloths (always appreciate and have several uses), and a scarf.  A nice dark colored scarf suitable for a man or a woman......excellent.

Sue has also included 4 pairs of socks in her generous donation.  Socks are wonderful.  Socks are one of the items that are needed and appreciated all 4 seasons of the year.  Wet feet are cold feet....even in summer.

Many thanks Sue for your wonderful support here on Bridge and Beyond with your donations and you're always present visits and comments on the blog.  Please keep up the good work and know you are making a difference in the lives of many.

Knitted Loomed Hats and Cotton Cloths Aid the Homeless

Thank you Karen S for this thoughtful donation of crocheted and knitted goodies.  Please remember folks you can always click on pictures to make them larger and see details here on Bridge and Beyond.  Karen has been busy crocheting cotton washcloths.  What fun variegated mixes she used.  I've seen the brownish one before, but don't think I've seen the green-yellow-reddish one before.  Very nice!

She's also been busy with her knitting looms!  Check out the hats.  While I know it's August, often referred to as the Dog Days of Summer, it's been cool here the last couple of nights.  When I got up this am...it wasn't even 60.  So, it's really cooling down a bit early.  I hope that doesn't mean Fall is going to be colder and sooner than normal.  People will be needing warm hats before we know it.  Unfortunately!

For all you folks who have looms at home, please scroll back to the previous post.  I posted a link with written directions and a how to video for using those looms to knit really nice writs warmers/fingerless mitts.  PLEASE check it out.

Looming Fingerless Mitts

The above video shows you how to make the awesome fingerless mitts Anna W made (please scroll back to the previous post.  This video is a bit long, but it's pretty easy to skip to the point you need to see for the next step in the pattern.  You have to over look her bird must be tweeting as she's talking and some of the time it's hard to see, as the camera work isn't the best; but.......with that said it's helpful and I think you can still follow it.

The link to her written pattern is HERE

These are especially nice, as they really extend up the arm and would be warmer than short ones.  I asked Anna for the pattern she used, plus.......I know many folks use those looms, so wanted to share this.

Sorry folks for the gap here on the blog with posts.  I was out of town unable to post for longer than expected.  Then once back, had too much catch up to do.  AND sadly there were some spamy comments to deal with.  Thank you Sandie P for letting me know.  I was able to get them deleted.......so we can now get back to business here on Bridge and Beyond.

Thank you all for patience.  It's hard to believe kids are back in school.  Where did summer go?  It seems with each passing year, it goes faster...the sad part of that.....to my way of thinking, we know bad weather isn't probably too far off.  AND I like summer, am not a fan of cold, winter or the white stuff.  Pretty sure our Homeless Friends aren't fans of it either.

So if you're one who likes to take summers off with your knitting and crocheting...I fear it's time to gear up again folks.

Again Thank you Anna for sharing the pattern you used as well as the video.  Much appreciated.  And thank you Sandie for alerting me about the spamy comments.

Crochet Scarf Helps Those in Need on Bridge and Beyond

Oh my, I can hardly look at this picture.  I've had a bad bout of Vertigo for several days, and think I was dizzy when I took this picture.  So sorry for the blurred vision folks.  Didn't see it was so bad until I loaded it to write this blog post.

This pretty scarf (really it is, just ignore the picture), is from our good friend, and long time supporter, Sandie P from Louisianan.  It's a great greenish blue color and so very well made.  Her scarves always are.  And it's nice and long so people can wrap up and really be warm with it.

Thank you Sandie, please know you continue to make a big difference, an important difference in the lives of many people.  So sorry for the lousy picture.

The Vertigo is really not fun folks, had a day where I couldn't walk more than 2 or 3 steps at a time without feeling like I was going to fall.  That my excuse, my story and I'm sticking to it.  But.........if you've been here before to Bridge and Beyond, you've no doubt seen how nice Sandie's scarves are.....truly!

Help From Tennessee Aids Ohio's Homeless

WOW! Look at this awesome donation from Anna W from Tennessee!  Thank you Anna, such a generous donation.  This isn't the first time Anna has given of her time and her talents to help Bridge and Beyond.

Wonderful colors, great size variety and everything is so well made.  The yarn she used is so nice and soft, whomever wraps up in these scarves, or pulls on a hat or writs warmers is going to truly feel comforted.

Anna has tagged all her hats with size, thank you for doing that.  And a nudge to remind everyone to, please and thanks.

Anna looks to be a whiz with the looms.  Pretty sure the hats and scarves are knitted on looms, and I think???? the writs warmers (fingerless mitts) are as well?  I would love to post the pattern you used for warmers/mitts, as they are particularly nice.  The sizing seems like a real bonus to me.  The are nice and long and would really aid someone trying to stay warm.
I tried to show you how nice and long they are, but am not good with holding the phone with one hand and pushing the bottom to take a photo.

Thank you Anna, and please keep up the good work and know you truly have made a difference.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
