Donated Mountain Sky Afghan

I usually don't post this many pictures in one post, but I found this really interesting.  This is one of the afghan projects that traveled with me to Hilton Head recently.  You've already the completed Orange Julius Afghan.  When pieces are different sizes, I always lay the pieces out to help the process of edging/adding etc to make the pieces as uniform as possible before assembly.

Differnt angle, same designed afghan...except I think I move one or two of the stripes.  This is the first picture I took here at home some time back when it was first designed and labeled and bagged until such time as it could be put together.  Look how different they look.  The 2nd picture looks far more green, must have been the lighting.  I named it Mountain Haze and thought I'd join with a green or gray.

I didn't have the appropriate colors in sufficient quantities ...and found plenty of the pretty bright blue...sorta center in this 2nd picture.  And you can see far more blue in the top picture.

He it is being blocked and drying.  Not the best picture, was a bit limited where I could put, and where I could stand there in the vacation time share.  Blue currently on my computer looks more purple.......which it isn't.

It's very very blue, so I decided the name was no longer appropriate and have renamed this one, Mountain Sky.

The most real picture color wise...is the very first picture.  In fact, in that photo you can see one of the blue skeins of yarn sitting there on the bed.  Lights there were good, must have been more natural.  The first picture was condo 1, and finished picture was a 2nd condo.  I was overly optimistic I guess laying out these afghan and Orange Julius in the first condo.......I didn't get them both done while staying at the first condo.

I often see colors look a bit different based on light at the time the photo was taken, but this one.........might be the biggest change I've seen.

I did work on a 3rd afghan while there, but didn't manage to finish it.  It's still a work in progress, which I share on down the line.  But....we're making headway with our afghan goal count.  And hopefully some of you are also working on one or twelve, lol.

Crocheting for Bridge and Beyond Helps Homeless of ALL Ages

Thank you Jeannette T for this thoughtful donation of crocheted goodies to aid the homeless in Ohio.  Bridge and Beyond is able to help people in need because of good people like yourself.  Jeannette has included cotton washcloths and scarves, sized for the kiddo's...possible teen with the brown one.  Thank you Jeannette, and please keep up the good work.

AND...look, she's included one of the hand puppets.  I posted about this with some links to patterns, HERE.  While we perhaps don't need hundreds of these, having some for kids that are having a hard time adjusting to being in a shelter sounds like a wonderful idea.  Sandie P, another of our helpers here on Bridge and Beyond made the suggestion that they could also be made with cotton to be used as a washcloth for young kids........another good idea.

Here's a link from RAV, with a crocheted pattern, looks to be the same as Jeannette's.  It's a free pattern folks, so take a look.  And here's the knitted version.

**The counts on our progress bars are current, the percentages not quite. I'll not be figure the percentages with each update of numbers, but will be updating again next at least by the 20th. I have in fact made a reminder not on my cell phone for the 20th of each month to do percentages. If we're at a milestone, or I just have extra time I may do it more often...but certainly at that scheduled time.

Crochet Hats, Scarves and More for the Homeless

Thank you Robyn for this wonderful and very generous donation.  Robyn has been very busy indeed.  Hats, scarves, and cotton washcloths galore.  Please click to see details.  You can see she's made some matching hats and scarves for nice sets.  AND look how nice her labels are.  She's included size, and laundry instruction which is awesome.

What a wonderful mix of goodies.  Look at the variety of colors, sizes, and styles!  I'm having a hard time picking a favorite, but think it's probably the purple hat and scarf set.  I LOVE that yarn.  People have been sending things made from yarn I'm not familiar with and I'm loving it.  But, I also am gonna blame you all ...if I go yarn shopping again, lol.  Seriously, love the shading and think some of it needs to find it's way into my stash.  But, shhhhhhhhhh keep it on the down low.

Thank you Robyn, and please keep up the good work.  You have made an important differences in the lives of those in need.

Donating Coffee and Personal Care Items

Here's about a dozen pots of coffee.  When we travel we stay in timeshares and they always leave a couple of packs of coffee.  Each is enough for a full 12 cup pot.  I always take my own coffee and so safe these for Rae, our friend who prepares meals for the homeless on Sat. mornings.
Here....lots of personal care items saved also from the time shares.  Lots of soap, shampoo, hair conditioner, and lotion.  Folks this is a great way to donate without actually buying anything.  If you travel for business or pleasure save what the hotels give you.  Our donations of personal care items are delivered to Rae, and to The Homeless Families Foundation.  They're used by those living out in the elements, and those in the shelters.

The coffee isn't something for the shelters, as I believe there are food regulations, though I've not rechecked that in awhile.  I'm not asking for coffee donation, as I don't believe volumes of it are needed.  Should that change, I'll post it.  But, the personal care items are always needed.

Gorgeous Hand Knits for the Homeless

Woot Woot, look at this marvelous donation of scarves, mittens and hats and also a cotton washcloth.  What a wonderful and very generous donation.  I swear I don't think our good friend Sandra R from Florida ever sleeps.  She knits and crochets constantly!  What a wonderful mix of goodies.

Please click so you can see the details.  She's included hats of many different styles, and colors.  Lots of additional warm heads will be thrilled.  AND you know how excited I get when we get mittens!!  Take a look she's has them all nicely tagged with size and kept together as a pair by using the size tag to tie them together.

Sandra you are truly appreciated for your kind heart and your very gifted hands by everyone involved with Bridge and Beyond.  And, as I noted a few posts back...see the sunshine, lol.  She always packs some sunshine in from Florida with her donations.  We get so few days with sunshine here, it's greatly appreciated.  The pictures were taken on the same day folks, it's just that she had so much I made it two posts to not over whelm one post with pictures.  Improves the loading time of the page.

Thank you, Sandra.  As always, please keep up the good work!

Donating Orange Julius Afghan to Homeless Families Foundation

Here is Orange Julius completed.  Below you see the  before and here you see the after.    It looks a bit funky below as the picture was originally Vertical, but I turned it to be more the way the finished picture is.  Believe I moved one or two squares around as I was working on also, in order to even out color a bit more.  It's been laundered and is being blocked and drying above.  I took these squares with me to Hilton Head recently and completed it there.  Actually, it's one of 3 afghans I worked on while on vacation.

Afghans with mixed squares are a bit tedious to work on, but I generally like the end result.  There are different sizes here, as you can tell.  Additionally some of the squares are knitted and some are crocheted.  Lots of different hands involved in this afghan.

This afghan, like all ours got donated to Homeless Families Foundation and hopefully will give someone physical warm, as well as emotional warmth.

I've had a few question recently about sending squares or stripes, but am still not in need of to assemble.  At some point I might be, but still quite a bit on hand.  So, please let me encourage you all make completed afghans....nudge nudge.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
