2016 Donation Totals for the Homeless

(A New Years many years ago, before I was totally gray, and hubby was gray and thin on top.)

Though Bridge and Beyond has been around longer than 2013, typically when I publish and compare end of the year donation totals, I cover just recent years. 2013 was a banner year for us, so that's the year I've chosen to start with. I've listed years, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Along with the numbers of the actual donation totals, you'll see -RED, and +BLUE numbers which represent that year as compared to the previous years totals.

I'm please to report that the year 2016 was a good year for donating hats, scarves and rain poncho's.  All those numbers are blue positive numbers.  AND even with mittens and slippers being in the red, we weren't too far off our previous years totals.

Keep in mind donating is HUGE.  You all should be very proud of what has been accomplished.  You take precious time, money and skill to knit and crocheted for folks you do not know.  You buy yarn, you pay for postage.  There truly is no donation that's too small.  We hear at Bridge and Beyond give of ourselves and that's pretty precious in my book.  I appreciate each and everyone of you and your efforts to warm those in need, those with less than we all have.

Please keep up the good work, and may 2017 find you and yours Happy and Healthy.  Let us continue to do what we can with our needles, hooks, and yarn.

**I've not included things such as headbands, cowls, shawls, shrugs, vests, sweaters, personal items and anything misc in above figures.  Over time I've changed how some things are listed and so to be consistent, I left those out of the stats.  Cowls will be counted here out with scarves, as will infinity scarves.  The numbers for vests, shawls, headbands etc are quite low and will be considered misc.**

I've not decided whether to list the actual number this year for items throughout the year, or stick with the subtracting it from our number this year.  Please weight in as to which counting method you like best, and I'll give it so more thought.

Knitted Hats from California help Cold Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Dee Ann H, our newest pair of helping hands for this thoughtful donation of warm knitted hats.  I LOVE the colors, so perfect for our men folk.  The hats are nice and large which is also a plus.  The brims can be worn up or down which also aids in additional warm AND can help in sizing as well.

We're so happy to have you join us, Dee Ann, and hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.

Donating Socks Warm Feet for the Homeless

Thank you Sarah S for this thoughtful donation of personal care items, crocheted cotton washcloths, and socks!  I rushed these socks over to Rae the very next day after opening the box because the temps have been bitter cold and wet and socks are sooooo appreciated by the folks that live out in the elements.  Rae was thrilled to get them and was putting together packs to take with her when she made her rounds with the meals.  Perfect timing.  Wet cold feet are miserable so having dry, clean socks to change into is HUGE!

The personal care items and cotton washcloths are always a hit as well.  Please keep up the good work, and many thanks for all you do.

Donating Helps the Homeless

Plastic wear.  My 90 year old hates to throw away things that have a purpose.  Whenever he eats out, like fast food or carryout, he ends up with these plastic knifes, spoons, and forks.  Some are packaged with napkins and salt and pepper, some are solo. He's been saving these for awhile.   He asked me if one of the shelters could use them.  Instead I suggested they'd be helpful for Rae, who prepares meals for folks living out in the elements.  And so I added these to last delivery to her.

Knitted Mittens and Hats for the Cold Homeless

  Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation of lovely warm knitted hats.  Our good friend in Florida Sandra R always includes some sunshine in her boxes of donations too lol.  The day I opened this donation, we surely needed it.  Awesome hats, with great colors and size variety to fit many different heads.  Thank you Sandra for always tagging them with size.  That's so helpful and saves so much time both here at my house and when they get to the various shelters.

Our good friend and long time generous supporter Sandra had 2 boxes of donations.  Box one was the hats above and box 2...........yippee.  See me clapping and dancing in the street again!  27 fabulous pairs of mittens.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you can see all these wonderful mittens.  Again, she's taken the time to tag the all with size, and such a wonderful collection of sizes and colors.  These were delivered the very next day to our friend Rae who feeds those living out in the elements.  I didn't want to waste any time getting these out to those so desperately in need.  Though behind posting here, they was a rush delivery and Rae delivered them pronto, as the weather was frigid.

Hats for the Homeless

Hats and Slippers!  thank you Vicki D for this thoughtful crocheted donation of warm hats and slippers.  This hat design with the folded brim is so nice.  Makes it heavier and warmer as is with doubled thickness, and gives one the ability to fold it down to make the nat longer and or cover more of the ears.  Thanks also for tagging them with size.  That is so truly helpful.  Nice slippers booties also tagged with size.  Even when people have a roof over their heads (as in a shelter night), having something warm and clean to put on one's feet is heaven.  It's not uncommon for feet to be cold and or wet from spending the day outside in the elements, so to be able to take off wet shoes and socks and put on dry clean and warm slippers is truly wonderful.
