High School Seniors Help with Deliveries

Meet Emily and Anna (left to right).  These two Whetstone High School Seniors are involved in a senior project involving homeless.  They'll be presenting a written report, and a slide show/video/ and or power point presentation as part of their required service project.  Whetstone happens to be the high school I graduated from way back in the dark ages, 1969.  Their project is complex.  They're too discuss how the problem came to be, and what might be done to help the situation.  In addition to the research they've been doing they've been knitting.  Anna taught Emily so they can both knit and donate scarves to Bridge and Beyond.  

To gain a better understanding of the organization process, how families come to and are cared for through Homeless Families Foundation, and move onto permanent housing after being in the shelter system they accompanied me to see first hand how the process works.  As you can see, we had the car loaded to gills with wonderful hand knit and crocheted donations as well as personal care items.

Wave hello here to cute little Xavier.  You see, he was there "helping" as Homeless Families was packing up, preparing to move and cleaning house.  I think he was dusting the insides of the file cabinet.  lol  The girls got a first hand look at how and where things happen to assist families.  They  got lots of questions answered from Karie, the Community Liason.  

Karie also gave us an overview of the new facility which should be operational in about a month.

The Never Ending Box of Donations

Pour a cup of coffee, I've got lots to share with you today.  WOW...thank you Cheryl S from Michigan.  She sent a huge box of wonderful goodies folks.  In fact, let me share her method; as it might help some of you save on postage.  She grabs a box and as she makes things put the item in.  When the box is full, she mails it.   You might check with your local post office to see how this method would work for you.  Sometimes larger boxes aren't much more (weight can be an issue), sometimes sending smaller boxes is more expensive.

I love this granny stitch ripple green afghan.  Great colors.  Thank you Cheryl.  Such nice work.

And one can never go wrong with the never ending granny square.  Nice blends of dark brown and beige's.  With lots of neat cotton washcloths.  Most are crocheted, but if you click the picture to enlarge you'll see a couple of knitted ones at the top right.  I love that stitch..what is it Cheryl?

Everyone loves blue, blue works for men and women so well.  I'll give ya a minute if you need to go get another cup of coffee before we continue....really cause there's more folks!

Don't you love this color combination?

Some great hats, and a very cleaver idea for kitchen sets for those welcome home packages our beautiful afghans are a part of.  Dishcloths with matching hot pads.  Look at the adorable green set...she's made a hanger thingy (probably has a better name then that) added a dish towel that coordinates with the the hot pads, kitchen mitt, and dishclothe she made.  Very nice!!  Can you share the pattern you used for the hot pads?

AND yes there's still more.  Hats, scarf, and look at the mittens!  One pair has the flip down thing that goes over the finger part!  Awesome idea Cheryl.  Wonderful color and size variations with regard to the hats too.

 Seriously, I had to take lots of pictures because I couldn't lay it all out at one time.  More cotton washcloths, hats, scarves, socks, some personal care items, slippers, and squares.

And, to round out the donation....round scarves, lol.  Some call these circle or round scarves, some infinity scarves, and some mobius.

Donations for Ohio Homeless

Thank you Marjorie M for your on going support of Bridge and Beyond.  I appreciate it and your steadfastness with visiting and commenting on the blog.  Marjorie has crocheted 16 cotton washcloths which I know will be a big hit when their donated to the shelters; along with some personal care items, supplies needed in the meal prep and socks.    The two paisley bags on the right had side of the picture are insulted bags (probably lunch bags?), they can be used in several ways I'm sure for our folks in need.

Donating Knitted Slippers

 Thank you Kathy U from West Virginia for these toasty knitted slippers.  I often ask folks in the course of blogging what pattern they use, as many leave comments wondering.  She's included a note telling us she used Bev's pattern for these slippers.  Thanks also for pairing and tagging them with size, it's much appreciated.  Additionally, she's donated a crocheted hat and some person care items.
