Donations help Homeless in Ohio

Hello and Welcome Sharon H from South Dakota, our newest pair of helping hands. Sharon has crocheted 6 matching sets of hats and scarves for the younger set.  Always thrilled to have new helping hands, and you know how excited I get to add another state to our map of donators!  Please scroll down and look at the map.  Is your state listed?  If not, please let me know.

Woot Woot, we're now up to 38 of 50 states who've donated and up from 74% participating to 76%.  AWESOME.

Love to have knitters and crocheters from the states of: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Utah represented.  Are you from one of these states?  Have you donated and just been missed on lists?  Sing out if that's the case.  Do you know someone who knits or crochets from those states?  If so, please send them the link from Bridge and Beyond, perhaps they'd like to join us.

Comforting Afghans for Young Childeren

Two crocheted afghans suitable for a little girl to hug and feel comforted.  These 2 afghans are made from a variety of squares (couple of sizes) and are donated to us through Charity Crochet Exchange.  Several people were involved in making the squares: Andrea W, Carol Bohmbach, Julie Y, Karin O, Rhonda M, and Ryan D from the state of California.  I'm not certain which person assembled the squares but I can say what a nice job they did.  Thank you all for your support, I know these afghans will be cherished by the little ones who receive them.

AND 3 more.  The blue and the green one will be nice for a little boyI think the one on the right could go either way if it's a really young child, otherwise probably more girlie.  All very nice.  Would love one of you folks who crocheted squares, or assembled, or mailed to make contact with me.  Please leave comment with email addy here on the blog and or email me at sandycrochet@gmail.com.  These afghans will be used for our project, "Welcome Home."

Mint Chocolate Chip Bonus!

These wonderful squares were recently donated by our good friend AnneMarie, you might remember seeing them HERE.  I laid these out, and found a good amount of various shades of brown in my stash.  Think edging in the dark brown to add a couple of inches, then doing a border with several shades of brown might be just the ticket.  Sherry K and I got to meet face to face...that's the bonus.  We had a wonderful visit over a cup of coffee and tea.  I took these squares and some yarn; as Sherry has offered to help me by assembling an afghan.   She may lay it out and it may speak differently to her, you know afghans and yarn have a way communicating, lol.  It'll be fun to see what Sherry does in terms of pulling this all together.  Have fun, Sherry and thanks for the help.

I wish I had thought to take my camera with me so you could see us enjoying each others company.  Maybe next time I'll to remember to do that.  We'll be getting together again so she can pass along the afghan to me, and so we can enjoy another visit.  We're also thinking about planning a day in the park with some other helping hands to work on things together.  Stay tuned....when the weather turns to spring again that is.

The other cool thing here is, AnneMarie and Sherry have chatted often on line and so, once again we have friendship being formed, and team work!

Thank you Sherry for your offer of help, and I look forward to our next venture.  And, I had initially thought minty for the name of this ghan, but didn't like the sound of that, then typed chocolate chip, and Sherry came up with Mint Chocolate Chip....Perfect!

Warmth for Ohio's Homeless from Kansas

Hello and Welcome Joyce H from the state of Kansas.  We're thrilled to have you join us here on Bridge and Beyond and hope to see you and your crochet hook and knitting needles often.  Joyce has donated 7 nice thick hats and 2 scarves to warm Ohio's Homeless.  Not only is Joyce our newest pair of helping hands, but the first from the state of Kansas.  I'm always excited to get new helping hands and to add another state to our donation map.

Please scroll to the bottom of the blog to see the map.  Is your state noted?  Please check the 3 lists here on Bridge and Beyond: List of folks who donate and have a blog, those who don't blog but have a facebook, ravelry or crochetville etc profile page, and the 3rd list of those who donate without a profile page.  Make sure you are listed, and if you're not listed and or don't have a state listed with your name please make contact.  Leave a comment with your name and state so I can add it, and or email at sandycrochet@gmail.com.  Would love to get all 3 lists truly updated and current, but need your help to do so.

We've now grown from 72 to 74% of the states participating (from 36 to 37 states of 50).

Helping Hands from Minnesota aid Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Marjorie M from Minnesota, your thoughtful donation of cotton washcloths, scarves, gloves, and personal care items is fabulous.  Each and every items so needed and appreciated.  The value of soap, razors, toothbrush kits is truly more then any of us can relate to.  My husband and daughter and I used to camp, and having the ability to clean up...to shower, heavenly!

Please keep up the good work.

Remember folks, when you need to give your hands a rest from knitting or crocheting, please spend time on the blog.  It helps the blogs placement with search engines which in turn helps us reach more people who have helping hands....that means we're able to help more people.  I know many of you do come and read, but are shy and don't leave comments.  PLEASE, please do leave comments.  Let us know you were here, support each other's work by leaving comments.  We all enjoy that, AND when you leave comments, that helps the blog even further.  You do not need to be a blogger to leave comments, it doesn't compromise your security.  Beneath the post click the word comment, a white box pops up, type your comment in that box, then click the drop down box and select the option that says name and url, leave your first name and last initial (no need to leave a full name unless you want to), leave the url space blank (normally that's where a blog address would go).  That's it, quick and easy.  It does truly help us, so please leave a comment and encourage your friends to do the same, please avoid using the anonymous signature option in the drop down box, that doesn't help us at all.  In fact it usually triggers the spam feature.

Help us spread the word of the need, send your friends....even if they're not knitters and crocheters to our blog.  You never know who might want to help in some capacity.

The Square Root Helps the Homeless

Ok, maybe the math header, the square root is a bit much.  How could the square root help the homeless?  Well....squares do help the homeless.  Squares that are knitted, squares that are crocheted, squares that are solid, squares that have many colors all help the homeless.  They are joined together.  We all when people and things join together good things happen.  Linda J has a nice variety here of both knitted and crocheted squares that will be joined to make an afghan used to welcome someone home.  Being homeless is physically and mentally difficult.  Getting into a shelter is a relief, you have a roof over your head at least.......but, you're still homeless.  The various shelters, Homeless Families Foundation, The Family Shelter through Faith Mission, and the Family Shelter through the YWCA all work to get people back in their own homes.

Getting back into permanent, family style housing is something to be celebrated.  We donate afghans to say, "Welcome Home".  Congratulations on getting back into a family home, and best of luck for the future.  The shelters work to provide guidance and training needed to get families going again.

Donated squares help us do that.  We're currently providing afghans to Homeless Families Foundation through joining our squares together.  Click HERE, if you'd like to see some of the afghans made from our donated squares.  I'm hoping to get some additional photo's added to update the page, so please continue to check in.

Thank you Linda J, please keep up the good work.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
