Counting Scarves, One at Time

crocheted scarves
My last post with numbers shows we're making some headway folks. Thanks bunches for Sandie's consistency. Her projects are always well made, attractive and so appreciated. We're in receipt of another scarf from her. This one is Patriotic-Red-White& Blue. Very nice indeed. Scarf #109

Hats 178 (22 needed to reach goal of 200)
Mittens 43 pairs (57 need to reach goal of 100)
Scarves 109 (91 needed to reach goal of 200)

Hope you all were able to view the last 2 video's I posted here, if not please please scroll back and take a look. I fear the need may be greater than ever. Our weather is turning very quickly, cooler far cooler than what is normal for this time of year. We've closed the windows, have on jeans, and sweatshirts and it's still pretty nippy. Normally it's hot in August, not so much this year. Though that has some blessings for those of us not in need of running the air conditioner; I do worry what that means for on down the road.

Thanks to all who've helped throughout this past year. I'm hoping to reach some new helping hands to enlarge our group of big hearted helpers.

Homeless Experiment, Tent City

While this video isn't talking about homelessness here in Central Ohio, or specific to our Bridge People, I thought it was worth posting to share with you all. Homelessness is a huge problem across this country of ours, one that deserves serious attention.

I read there are 12,000 homeless in The Columbus/Central Ohio area on any given day. I urge you to watch this for some insight into the problem. Summer will soon be over and people will be cold, wet, and hungry.

Please if I could ask you all to post about our group if you've not done that recently to help spread the word of the need. If you've not posted a link to this blog, please do. You can grab our badge for that purpose. Thank you to all who've helped over this past year, and may we continue to help with our willing hearts and hands.

12,000 Homeless in Columbus

This video shows a mix of people, a mix of circumstance, and mix of feelings and emotions regarding the homeless in Central Ohio. Some do want a better situation, some are content and feel they can maintain perhaps better than others.

Could I challenge each of you to think about who you know that might be able or willing to help. Maybe you have a neighbor, or co-worker who doesn't use the computer; but knit's or crochets. They can still help. Perhaps they could send socks, socks are needed all year long, in all seasons. Wet cold feet are a problem.

Seeing Double? Sandie, Sandie

No you're not seeing double!

crocheted scarves

There are two scarves, two brown scarves, two brown crocheted scarves, two brown crocheted scarves from Sandie! Look at our numbers folks, she's been steadily chipping away at these numbers. I'm honored and thrilled to have her continued efforts in our behalf. As always the work is fabulous. These two scarves are made with double yarn so they are very thick and should be nice and warm. I need to hop over to Sandie's blog and see what size hook she used when she does this double yarn.

Thanks bunches Sandie

Three Hundred and Twenty-Five

With this 2nd crocheted navy scarf I finished last night we as a group have knitted and crocheted and donated 325 warm items. We physically and mentally warm those in need, those who have less then we do. Physically, certainly thats obviously. One puts on a hat, a scarf, a pair of mittens they will be physically warmer. Mentally, I believe the love that goes into each and every stitch reaches out in a way that gives the receiver a warm internal feeling. A feeling that lets them know they are not alone, they are not forgotten. They are cared for.

This scarf finishes up my skein of Caron Pounder and is scarf #104.

Goals:

Hats 178 (22 needed to reach goal of 200)
Mittens 43 pairs (57 need to reach goal of 100)
Scarves 104 (96 needed to reach goal of 200)

Please keep your hands and fingers busy ladies. Though it is now summer, we here in Central Ohio have had a much colder and wetter month of July then normal. In fact, just the other day on the news they reported this is our 4th coldest July on record! While normally hats etc might not be worn by people in the month of July, I'm willing to bet some of this warm items are indeed used by these homeless folks at night when the air is damp and cooler without a roof over their heads to keep out the elements.

As always thanks for all the hard work, and please keep up the effort.

AVERY SPECIAL THANKS to all who signed my niece, Janet's dedication page. If you've not had a chance to read the post, click here, please.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
