Afghans Galore and More to aid Ohio's Homeless

Thank you !  Sandra R from sunny Florida has been SUPER busy.  I wonder if she takes time eat or sleep.  The two tone Entrelac Knit Afghan is one of things she's busy making to donate to Bridge and Beyond to aid Ohio's Homeless and those in need.

This garter stitch knitted ripple (or wave stitch) is yet another item keeping her busy.  Please remember to click photo's to enlarge them so you can see the details, you don't want to miss anything.  This will work for a man or a woman in this color scheme.

This 2 tone green and white Entrelac Knitted Afghan will also work for a man or a woman.  And is sized such that it could be a nice family sized ghan.  I love the design.  This is not a stitch I have yet knitted myself...have any of you?

AND drum roll please for her 4th afghan.  See I told you she's been super busy.  And who doesn't like blue.  Whomever receives these ghans, be it a family, or man, or a woman is going to be very happy indeed.  And Warm.

But, it doesn't stop there.  Super busy knitting cotton washcloths and crocheting scarves in a variety of colors to warm men or women.  Again remember to click to enlarge so you can see all the texture she's created with her crochet hook in these scarves.

AND now she's back to her knitting needles with hats in many styles and colors and MITTENS!!  Stay a little longer please and keep scrolling.

PLEASE keep checking in, as I will continue to show donations coming in, and provide listings of charities you might like to support after operations cease here on Bridge and Beyond come Dec .31.  Please remember the last date to mail donations is the 24th of Dec.

Some of the charities aid the homeless, some pregnant women, some kids transitioning out of foster care, and native Americans on Pine Ridge Reservation.  Locations vary, so you might find one of the charities listed is in your area, or close to you like a border state; making postage perhaps less costly.

Below is the listing with a very brief description, but PLEASE click on the links to see details about what they accept, what fiber to use, who benefits from the charity and where to mail items.

Afghans for Pine Ridge (Ravelry Group completed Afghans with options for 6-8- and 12 inch squares)

Red Scarf Project (benefits kids transitioning out of foster care

Warm Up American (Benefits homeless and others in need, rectangles, hats and scarves, or make your own full afghan).

Sunny Florida Helps Warm Ohio's Homeless.

Woot Woot.  Look at this awesome afghan.  It's lovely and crocheted in the very traditional granny style method with black edging and joining.  So many fun colors.  AND everyone loves a true granny square afghan.  These colors are perfect for men or women.  Our friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from sunny Florida has done it again with this generous donation of knitted and crocheted goodies.
She's knitted hats in a variety of colors and sizes, and her always popular mittens!!  She's also included the traditional Grandma's favorite (corner to corner) cotton washcloths in her donation, as well as scarves.  Something here for everyone.  Thank you for always tagging your hats with size; the volunteers at the shelters especially appreciate that.

We're hitting some fun milestones here folks with this donation.  Take a look at our goals for Cotton Cloths.......we just surpassed it!  AND look how close we are for both hats and mittens...in both cases we're only 13 from our goal.

I think we're going to end on a high note when Dec 31st rolls around and we close the book on Bridge and Beyond.  Have you read the important announcement?  If not, please click HERE and read

In our short almost month when we began in Dec of 2008 we donated 33 hats and 24 scarves, and now look at us.  Those were the items we started with and over the years we donated:
2008    33 Hats and  24 scarves
2009   335 Hats and 123 scarves
2010   592 Hats and 340 scarves
2011   969 Hats and 473 scarves
2012  1052 Hats and 666 scarves
2013  1053 Hats and 666 scarves
2014   971 Hats and  590 scarves
2015   468 Hats and  196 scarves
2016   516 Hats and  371 scarves
2017   371 Hats and  256 scarves
2018   270 Hats and  224 scarves
2019   300 Hats and  212 scarves
2020   351 Hats and  146 scarves
2021   310 Hats and  146 scarves............thus far, as of Oct 30th when this post was written.

So our biggest year for hats was 2013 with 1,053 and our lowest year for hats was 2018 with 270.  That's a whopping 7,591 hats that we've knitted and or crocheted and donated since Dec of 2008.  Think of the 7,591 warmer heads.  Together we all accomplished that.

And our best years for scarves were both 2012 and 2013 with 666 each year.  Our lowest was 2009 with 123.  And our total to date of knitted/crocheted scarves if 4,433.  I wear scarves a lot, so truly know how much warmer those 4,433 people were.  I hope you're all smiling and nodding in agreement.

So while we may be winding down the year and our work with Bridge and Beyond will be ending Dec 31st of this year; each and every person who participated throughout these past 13 years should feel very good about the people that were warmed by our hand crafted goodies.

Donations from Sunny Florida for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation of knitted and crocheted goodies!!  Sandra's been very busy knitting her famous mittens!!  YIPPEE!!  You all know how excited I get when we get mittens.  She's sent a nice variety of sizes and colors in her mittens and her hats!  All tagged with size.  She's included cotton washcloths in her knitted donations.
And she's included a crocheted afghan.  Please click to see the details of this stitch.  Not sure if I would call this a fan stitch or a shell stitch...probably the later?  It's sized to work for any adult, and is so nice and soft.  Someone's going to be very happy to be snuggled up in this beauty.

Many thanks Sandra for your long time support of Ohio's homeless here on Bridge and Beyond, and for sending sunshine from Florida in your packages!

Folks, I'ld like to ask you all to mark your calendars and not mail donations for the month of February of next year, 2022.  Mail before or after.  Thank you.

Donation from Florida Aids Ohio's Homeless

This is the continuation of our good Friend, Sandra R from Florida's donation.  If you missed the afghans, please scroll to the previous post.  You can see Sandra has been very very busy with her crochet hook, and knitting needles.  She's crocheted 3 scarves, 8 super soft and warm knitted hats, and knitted cotton washcloths (see both pictures).  She's included personal care items in her donation and a carry tote to aid the homeless containing their goods.
The cotton washcloths are knitted in the always popular granny's favorite design, knitted corner to corner, and they are colors that work well for men or women.  Well done, Sandra.

I've found a work around for the problem of not being able to edit the graphs.  It's a bit cumbersome, but at least I can get our counts.  If the problem continues, I may have to nix it and go back to the old way of typing it in the side bar.  Fingers crossed that's it's just a temporary gliche.  Will keep you posted on that.  AND speaking of that, take a look at the graph for scarves...with this donation, we've just inched over the 50% mark!  Awesome folks!!

As always Sandra, please keep up the good work and know it really matters to many.

Crocheted Afghans Provide Warmth and Love to those in Need

I've been MIA for a while here on Bridge and Beyond.  My Father was going down hill.  He was 95 and living in an Assisted Living Center.  Like many of you, Covid kept us from being able to visit for over a year.  Thankfully the employees set up Facetime visits for family members of residents.   He ended up in Hospice and we were allowed to visit.  Things continued to go downhill until he passed.  We're still working through things that all families do with arrangements after a family member passes.  It was blessing, he had a long full life.  I just felt the need to explain why I've been MIA here.

AND now onto these wonderful afghans, crocheted by our good friend, and long time supporter, Sandra R from sunny Florida.  Where I hope she's staying safe, as Covid there has become very very bad.  Higher numbers than throughout the Pandemic.  Staying safely inside and crocheting sounds like a good way to avoid the Virus.  AND it certainly looks like that's what Sandra has been doing.

This first afghan is tan and blue, though the color in the pictures almost makes it look like there's lavender included.  She's used, what I believe is Tunisian Crochet, and join as you go method?  It's nice and large and warm and will be well received.  The colors are suitable for a man or a woman
This 2nd afghan burgundy, blue and white and the always popular ripple style made with double crochet stitches I believe from looking at it.  So nicely made and again suitable, colorwise for a man or woman.
Don't go away........there's more.   Another Tunisian Crochet, join as you go afghan, except the size of the squares are larger in this pattern.  Stick around and keep scrolling down
Yes.....I do believe she's staying safe inside with all this  crocheting she's managed to do.  Here's a fourth afghan, another ripple style afghan made with double crochet stitches .  I LOVE this color combination.  Purple, Gray and White.

These 4 afghans will make 4 people/4 families very happy indeed.  Thank you for your long time support Sandra and your gifted hands and big heart.  Your always so generous.

Keep up the good work, (and folks do come back...because she had other things in her large box.  I'll be showing you more in the next blog post.

***For record Keeping I'm adding that these 4 afghans added to the 11 we've already donated makes 15 which is 50% of our goal of 30.  Not sure what the problem is, but am unable to update my graphs.  Will keep trying in the days to come.  This has never happened before, but there is no longer an edit option for me to do the update.***

Lots of Hats for Homeless and More

Many thanks Sandra R for this generous donation of knitted goodies.  She's been busy knitting hats, cotton washcloths, and scarves and mittens.

Please click to enlarge so you can see details.  Each hat is nicely tagged with size.  Sandra has a variety of hat styles, colors, and sizes.......something to fit all heads.  Some colors work nicely for women, others for men, and some can be either or.  If you look closely you'll see there are some sets with matching hat and mittens.  YIPPEE for mittens.

Sandra must have included some sunshine for me in her donation cause we've had some nice weather lately.  Sure hope that continues.  A week ago we were still getting nights below freezing; but lately not...so have my toes and fingers crossed.

Please notice our hat goal graph.  With these hats we're now over 50% of the way to our goal!

Many thanks Sandra for your long time support of Bridge and Beyond, please keep up the good work.

Helping the Homeless A Worthy Cause

Look who's been busy!  Our good friend Sandra R from the sunny state of Florida.  Please click to see everything, as I had to take photo a little father away than normal to get it all in.  WOW!

Sandra has knitted up a storm with hats, scarves (some are sets nicely put together), cotton wash cloths, and of course Mittens!

Lots of wonderful colors, some suited to the ladies, some to the men, and some that work for either.  Lots of variety in sizes also to warm many different sized people in need.  All hats nicely tagged with size......YIPPEE!!

AND in the upper right corner, notice a lavender bag?  Several people of late have been including canvass totes or similar material.  What a great idea.  Folks living in shelters and the elements often need to move around to stay safe.  So, having a bag can be very helpful.  After a couple of people included bags with their donations I looked around and found several here I wasn't using and added them to my last delivery to Homeless Families Foundation last week.

Many thanks Sandra for your long time support and your always generous donations.  You've made an important difference in the lives of many.  Keep up the good work.

Hats, Scarves, Mittens and More

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation.  Folks if you missed the previous post, please scroll back, it shows 3 afghans which were also a part of this donation from our good friend Sandra R from sunny Florida.  It looks to me like she doesn't sleep!  Look how many hats, cotton wash cloths and mittens in addition to those 3 afghans...........AND
Scarves!  Please click the picture to enlarge so you can see the details.  She's knitted has with several different styles.  The 2nd row from the left are tube like hats that can have a folded brim, where the other hats are more rounded with lots of different texture.  AND of course you know I was clapping when I saw the mittens.  So many different colors in both her hats and scarves.  Such a nice variety.  All the hats and mittens are tagged with size.  Special thanks for doing that, it really saves time for the volunteers at the shelter.

As always, many thanks for all you do Sandra R, and please keep up the good work.  You really make a difference, an important one.

Knitted and Crocheted Afghans for the Homeless

Woot Woot!  We're getting such a good start on our goal for afghans!  Thank you Sandra R from sunny Florida for these awesome afghans.  This first afghan is crocheted, corner to corner with a shell type stitch.  It's nice and warm, very solid. LOVE the colors, cherry but dark enough to work for a man or a woman.
This second afghan is knitted with a dozen large squares and is, to my way of thinking a very modern take on granny squares.  I love the look.  Basically 6 colors with the off white as the joiner, primarily and the 7th color.  This must have been fun to make because it's so new and different.  AND this is sized so nicely will be suitable for an entire family.
And this one is the very traditional crocheted granny squares 14 in a row and 10 rows.  LOTS of changing colors and tucking ends.  But, oh so pretty.  Again the style, and color will work for a man or a woman, AND the size is nice and large for a family.  Well done Sandra R.

With these 3 afghans our count is climbing fast to 6 with our goal being 30, 1/5th of the way there.  I'm feeling really good about us hitting and surpassing that goal.

Please pop back in, this isn't Sandra's whole donation, I have more pictures of goodies for you.

Hats and More for Ohio Homeless

Woot Woot!  Look at this awesome donation from our good friend and long time supporter Sandra R.  20 Soft warm knitted hats.  Please click to see how many different styles she has included in part 1 of 2 box donation!!  Each hat nicely tagged with size.  What a nice color mix with some more suitable for women, some more suited to men; and some can nicely work for either gender.

AND, drum roll for box #2.  A bakers dozen (13) more hats.  Again a good variety in size, color and style.  Additionally she crocheted 6 scarves.  I'm not sure why stitch she used to get the 3 two color ones on the right hand side, but it's very interesting.

Many many thanks Sandra for this generous donation.  Hope you're staying safe down there in the sunshine state.  If you've got any extra sun to spare, box it and send it north, Please and Thanks!

As always, keep up the good work.  It makes such a difference, you make such a difference.

Clapping for Mittens and More

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome donation.  As you can Sandra has been very very busy.  She's knitted hats, and mittens ( you know I'm dancing in the street), cotton washcloths and scarves.

Sandra has been a long time supporter of Bridge and Beyond and our primary mitten maker!  Many many thanks Sandra.  As always, please click the picture to enlarge so you can see details.  She tagged all hats and mittens with size, special thanks!  There's a variety of sizes and colors, as well as different hat styles.

I had delivered last week to both Homeless Families Foundation and Rae, our friend who prepares hot meals for the folks living out in the elements.  So these wonderful items, along with those posted in previous days are already in the hands of those who need them.

I hope you're all staying safe from The Covid.

Many thanks Sandra and please keep up the good work.

Donations from Sunny Florida Help Ohio's Homeless, Thank You!

Thank you Sandra R for this awesome and very generous donation of knitted and crocheted goodies!   As you can our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from Florida has been very busy.  I've said before I don't think the woman sleeps, and or that her needles and hooks must be smoking for the speed and volume of her donations.  I'm tired just looking at them.  She's knitted the always popular corner to corner cotton washcloth, often referred to as Grandma's favorite.

She'd knitted a variety of sizes and styles and colors of hats.  AND thank you for taking the time to tag all your hats with size, it really helps the volunteers get items to those in need faster.
AND......you know how excited I get when we get mittens.  Again, she's provided a good variety of sizes and colors and taken time to tag them all with size!!  YIPPEE!!  There are more hats in this 2nd picture and some crocheted scarves as well.

Awesome and generous, many thanks Sandra for all you do.  Please know how much it is appreciated by many.

Keep up the good work.

Knitting and Crocheting in Sunny Florida Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sandra R from Florida for this awesome and very generous donation of crocheted and knitted goodies.  This afghan.......WOW, it's a beauty.  Crocheted.  This is probably the most traditional crocheted afghan that exists, the granny squares all different colors.  It's probably how people used up everything they had...all their left overs from socks, hats, scarves, sweaters etc.
This is also a granny square crocheted afghan, but a newer type pattern.  I love this and know every young girl/teen and most women LOVE purple and lavender.  Sooooooooo pretty.
Sandra isn't sleeping.  Seriously...she must be up all hours of the night to get this much done.  Isn't this an interesting technique.  Yes, this is another example of granny squares, but I don't know what the technique is that incorporates color work like this.  Is it intarsia?
Don't go away, there's more!  This is the same style afghan as above, but with 3 colors.......it looks like Buckeye Colors to me.  Scarlet and gray with the white.  These afghans have a lot of texture.  Please click to enlarge the photo, so you can see the details.
AND.........this one is knitted in the very traditional log cabin style, which I always Love......who doesn't.  These afghans vary a bit in size, color, but all beautifully made.  And all of these will be loved by those that receive them.  Sandra, you truly amaze me.
She also included knitted hats, knitted cotton wash cloths, and mittens......and scarves in her donation.  Whew.......I'm tired just looking at it all.  The hats and mittens are all nicely tagged with size.

Thank you, Thank you Sandra for your skillful hands and big heart.  Please know how much you are appreciated.

As always, keep up the good work!  You Rock!!!!!!!!!

Awesome Donation from Sunny Florida Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you, thank you Sandra R for this awesome donationApologies folks, this picture and that of another donation (which will be the post after this), were in no mans land...somehow I didn't have them on my phone any longer and couldn't find them on the computer after transferring them there.  YIPPEE I found them.

This awesome donation of knitted mittens, hats, and scarves come from our good friend Sandra R from the sunny state of Florida.  Poor Florida right now is having a bad time of it with the Covid, please stay safe Sandra.  Ohio is getting worse each day also, but Florida increases seem worse.

Sandra has been one of our long time supporters here on Bridge and Beyond and her mad knitting skills........particularly with mittens always has been clapping and or dancing in the street.

I also love how she includes such variety in styles, sizes, and colors with her hats, and always tags them with size, which really aids the volunteers and workers at the shelters.  Right now even more so, as I actually need to make an appointment to do deliveries, with their limited hours to help protect their employees and those they/we serve.

As always Sandra, many thanks and know you truly make a difference.

Sunshine State Helps Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Sandra R for this wonderful donation.  This afghan is very soft, both in color and texture.  Whomever wraps up in this is going to be happy, most assuredly.  I'm not sure I've seen this particularly granny square pattern before, but find it very interesting.  Please click to enlarge so you can see the details and textures.
Hats, scarves, and mittens oh my!  Our friend, Sandra R from Florida has been very very busy with her needles and hooks.  A great assortment of hats styles, colors, and sizes along with several matching mittens........and 2 scarves.  As always, she takes the necessary and much appreciated step of tagging the hats and mittens with size.

Many many thanks Sandra for your skillful hands and your big heart.  Please know how much you are appreciated by all who participate with Bridge and Beyond, all those at the various Homeless Shelters, as well as all who receive your goodies.  Please keep up the good work.

Donating Sunshine and Warm Knitted Items Helps Cold Homeless

YIPPEE!!  Look at this awesome and very generous donation from our good friend and long time supporter, Sandra R from Sunny Florida.  I've often teased and said she should package up some sunshine when she sends her donation.  Click to enlarge if you're not seeing it.  She did!  Seriously...we rarely get sunshine coming through the windows here in central Ohio in the winter; but this day...the day I took the photo..........we did.  Special thanks Sandra!

Kidding aside though folks, look at this wonderful donation of hats, scarves, mittens, and fingerless gloves.  There are some matching sets also.  Lots of colors, lots of styles, and lots of sizes.  Something for everyone.  Great solids that will blend in.  She always takes the time to tag her hats, and mittens with size.  Thank you, Thank you Sandra.  You've warmed up so many with your big heart and talented hands through the years.

Mittens, Hats Scarves and Sets, Oh My!

Thank you Sandra R from sunny Florida.  Look at this wonderful donation.  She truly amazes me with the quantity of work she does.  I've said it before, I swear she knits without stopping to eat or sleep.  She's been busy knitting hats, scarves, cotton dishcloths, and MITTENS!
You all know how excited I get when we get mittens.  She always takes time to tag her mittens and hats with size......thank you very much.  AND she's taken things a step farther.  Check the top picture.  She's attached sets.  In some cases the sets are fingerless mitts, and in other cases full mittens.  She watched the video I posted HERE, about how to loom knit fingerless mitts.  I did this
after we received some made by Anna W that were particularly nice and very warm as they extend up the arm a good deal.  Sandra said in her note to me, she thought it was fun to try something else, so she purchased a loom and went at it.

As always, many thanks for your generous donations and your long time support of Ohio's Homeless through Bridge and Beyond.  You truly make a difference.  Please, please keep up the good work.

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
