Creating, Step One

pile of squaresThese are squares that haven't as yet gotten into a designed ghan. So, normally when I get the urge to create I dump the squares out stare at them. I sort them, usually by color and then after staring at them awhile I get ideas. So...this is step one!

I've not had a chance to get a badge made yet for May's Focus, but it's Scarves! Knitted, crocheted, loomed scarves. Scarves are needed for men, women, and children. Don't want you to stop working if you run out of ideas of what to make, think scarves.

  1. I think this would be great fun---sorting the squares and fiddling around with the arrangement to make a beautifully designed afghan. Can't wait to see the finished project!

  2. What fun! I take all my yarns out now and then and re-sort, just for the pleasure of handling them, I saw your "Xanthic" in the Hive -- love the idea of the pass along blankies. Sprintime Hugs...Sandie in Florida

  3. I think you always do such awesome work. It amazes me to see what you come up with. I enjoy making squares but I'm not sure I'd like putting them together!

  4. Oops -- I keep forgetting -- you can use "WOVEN" for "loomed." Us weavers get a little prickly at the term LOOMERS! Hehe. Sandie

  6. Oh, that sounds like fun - the dump part and the sort part - the sew together part - not so much. Just a question on both blankets and scarves - should they be washable wool, a blend of wool and acryclic or is acrylic preferred? Also, any preference on sizes for suares or scarves? I know the info is probably out there, but while I was commenting, I thought I'd ask again.

  11. Misselbird, it is fun sorting.

Sandy in Fl,click name and url so it leaves your name instead of anonymous, and add the url to your blog, or leave that part empty if you want. It's always good to look at the yarn again. Thanks, glad you saw Zanthic post. Thanks for the nice compliment. Appreciate it.

Many thanks Yvonne for your nice compliment.

Hey Sandie, I say Loomers cause I have folks who donate hats and scarves they make (knit) on looms. I've not had people who weave donate woven items.

Sally...you know me well. It is a stress reliever and I love knowing together we keep people warm.

psmflowerlady, I take all. I think washable is best, however if wool is labeled that works too.
Details on squares, colors and sizes can be found in the sidebar by clicking on Give a Square. Scarves I generally feel people are different sizes, but do think for warmth things t least 4 inches wide and around 6 ft...but then remember we're also supplying items for children and those can be smaller.

Patty ...calico....I must write down that name. I do like to name some of the ghans.

Harvest Farm and Sandie in LA...thanks for the nice compliment.

Appreciate all your visits, and comments.

    Many thanks
    Sandy
