Dusty Rose as it was designed with both squares and rectangles, both knitted and crocheted squares from many pairs of helping hands looked like this.
When last you saw Dusty Rose it was at this stage. It's growing as it's edged and joined. More adjustments were needed then I initially thought, as some of the squares/rectangles had more stretch to them.
And here it is finished. I debated about an edge and decided just basic straight single crochet rows, and though it needed something to make it pop a bit, so went with the pink for the last 2 rows instead of staying with dusty mauve color. A few alterations made on placement, one wasn't intentional, as I carried it to the chair to work on it, joined one section the opposite direction I wanted...didn't realize it until other pieces were added.....soooooooooo it's slightly different.

ReplyDeleteThe members of my community knitting/crocheting group are working on blankets and hats to donate to the children of a local Children's Hospital. I live in NJ. Although charity knitting is something I have wanted to do for a long time, this is the first time I have done it. My first contribution was a crocheted blanket. I have a knitted one completed and am working on my third.
I am curious about how donations are distributed.
I know that the things we are contributing will definitely be brought to the appropriate person at the hospital. But I am curious about what happens after that.
Also, I am using 100% acrylic yarn. Would you suggest that I wash the items before donating?

I always suggest washing the item to remove odors, dust and hair; though many people don't before they mail to me. Sometimes I toss the in washer if I think they really need it. Washing also softens up the acrylic yarn, some is more stiff than others. I don't know how things are distributed at the hospital. Our donations don't go to the hospitals, they go to homeless shelters, and to those living under bridges and in the woods etc. Those not at shelters are hand delivered by a friend of mine Rae, who prepares hot meals for them as well.
