Blue Horizon Complete And Anonymous Gift

FINALLY, Blue Horizon is done.  I'm happy to be done with this project, not because I don't like colors, or knitting afghans, but this was softer and thinner yarn then I often use for knitting and it just seemed to take ............for...........ever.  But, it's done, ends tucked in, laundered and blocked.  YIPPEE Skippie, will concentrate on other projects now.

AND...look how much shaving cream you can buy for $50.00.  We had a thoughtful gifter who asked to be anonymous on the blog who donated $50.00.  After checking on what the biggest need was at the time, I purchased shaving cream from several locations where I was able to purchase the most with the donation and stretch it a bit further with some coupons I had.  This donation is for our folks living in the elements.  Shaving....sometimes that's luxury, but now they can shave, feel cooler and cleaner....AND just plan feel better.  Thank you Anonymous Donor for your thoughtfulness.

  1. Blue Horizon turned out to be a beautiful afghan, I know what you mean about something that takes longer then what you expect to make. Especially when you have other things you would rather be doing. Do like the colors in this one. I think you mentioned at one point that this was Caron Yarn. I remember in a crochet class I took that a woman there had purchased that kind of yarn to learn on, and really had a much more difficult time then the rest of us, who were putting along with our Red Heart Super Saver:+)). It had kind of a slippery finish that was harder to work with. Anyway, this is lovely and will be well loved by someone.
I love the idea of the anonymous gift and the shaving cream. In the heat of summer what could be better then a clean shaven face.A lot of happy guys will be thanking this kind hearted person. I am getting a box of cloths and socks together and will include some razors too.
It has been very humid here. The temps are in the 80s and we have had a very stormy, rainy morning. Little towns in the rural areas had a tornado touch down., scary time of the year for storms. Always brings our Homeless friends to mind when the thunder is crashing and lightning is all around. I dont mind it, but I am lucky enough to be in a house.GOD BLESS THE HOMELESS. marj in minnesota

    1. Thank you Marj for your thoughtful comment, always so appreciated. Right you are on the clean shave face for summer. Sorry to hear about the weather there. We had sun yesterday, truly first time in over a week, but again this morning it looks dark and gloomy with the threat of yet more rain. . Your memory is good the yarn was satin caron and it was very slippery and quite a bit thinner then a standard WW, even though they call it WW. It's nice and soft, even before being laundered ...unlike Red Heart, but it really isn't the easiest to work with and I would never recommend it for a beginner.

Thank you who ever you are for the money so Sandy could go shopping. The shaving cream is a great idea.
Had the thunder storms this afternoon. Lots of rain and wind. Glad you were OK Marj. Hope everyone is OK from the tornado. Tornados are scary stuff.

    1. Truthfully, I never thought of shaving cream either Bigit, not something I routinely buy for the homeless, but my friend Rae who feeds the homeless on Sat. mornings said that would be a good idea and I always defer to her with her first hand knowledge.

  4. That is a lot of shaving cream :) I remember one time going to the dollar store and buying so much of deodorant when we were going to feed the homeless. They sure liked what they got with that.

    1. Right you are Betty, they do enjoy getting spruced up, just like the rest of us and need different things at different times of the year. The people at the registered asked me why so much shaving cream, when I told them, they smiled and seemed to like knowing items from their store would be going to a good cause.

  7. This is an awesome afghan. I don't think I have knit anything that large! It would take me a few years to finish something like that. Great donation with the shaving cream too. I think I will pick up some razors to send in my next box. It's nice to get some other ideas.

    1. Thank you Yvonne for the visit and comment, both are appreciated. This ghan took me longer than I wanted, crocheting is just a lot faster, but knitting doesn't bother my arthritis the way crochet sometimes does.
