Inspiration

Today's A-Z letter is I, I've chosen the word Inspiration.  In a recent knitting class I took on line, there was considerable discussion about choosing colors and patterns that inspired us.  Many people said they use nature as their inspiration when selecting colors, patterns, and textures to knit with.  I rarely buy a specific yarn for a specific project, so am not sure I've ever given it much thought.  I use yarn I have on hand...often yarn that's been donated or yarn I've purchased on sale...a color that's flexible for a variety of projects.  However, seeing this picture the other day on Facebook and I thought.......wow, that would inspire me to select beautiful purples and greens, and wouldn't these colors make an awesome afghan, or sweater?  Coincidentally, purple and green are my daughters favorite colors and so they are colors I've often purchased, but this particular blend...

Inspiration with regard to caring for the homeless could be defined as inspired to help others.  I think all the folks who donate to Bridge and Beyond are inspired to do just that, help others.  And I believe those who receive our gifts are also inspired...inspired to feel better because someone cares about them.........Someone they don't know took time to make something especially for them.  That is certainly inspiring.  I know many times when I make deliveries to the various shelters and run into a homeless person on walk or in the parking lot, and they open the door for me, help me carry items in, and say Bless You, I feel that they are inspired.

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated. The Power of One is awesome, and when we work together The Power of One becomes The Power of Many.

  1. I am a person who is inspired by animals and nature in everything I do I think. I am a huge bird lover and although I do not go out of my yard to watch them I am inspired to keep them fed here in my own back yard, and their songs in the morning and throughout the day inspire me.. The bird in your picture inspires me because of the beautiful colors which are my favorites in any combination. My dogs inspire me with their unconditional love and trust, I think in turn this all inspires me to be a better person, and try to share what I have with others. Each time I donate I am inspired to do more by the good feeling I get from sharing with others. It definitely is a never ending circle of good things that lead from one thing to another, and hopefully inspires others to do the same. You are an inspiration too Sandy, Keep up the good work. GOD BLESS THE HOMELESS. marj in minnesota. 55 degrees

  2. I like the way you compare the way the colors of that beautiful bird might inspire your next creation to the way people inspire each other. The givers inspire the receivers, who in turn may be inspired to hope.
Interestingly enough one of my works in progress is a scarf using purples and greens.

  4. We take inspiration from anything and it is so nice how colours can enhance our mood. Reading your blog reminds me of a story of a homeless woman who died a few years ago in Toronto. It was found that she was a huge model in the 1950's wanted by all the major modelling firms but she suffered from depression and other ailments. This beauty ended up on the streets because so little was known back then never mind now. They all have stories. Now I have to ask what kind of bird is this!! It is beautiful with the purples, greens and magenta

  5. Beautiful bird. When I had a house, I did feed the birds, but now I live in an apartment building. I do put out a hummingbird feeder on my deck. I do get my inspiration from nature.

  7. I think sometimes when one sees the gratefulness of the people helped who are homeless, one gets inspired to want to help them as much as one can.

    1. I find that I am a basic and simple crocheter. Therefore I find a lot of inspiration from picking out colors. I too do not pick out yarn for a specific project. I prefer to enjoy the colors instead. I love the birds also and yes, they do bring me inspiration of hope and newness. It makes me believe I can do anything and that anything is to help the homeless regardless of size of donation., as you always say Sandy
