Crocheting, a skill That Aids Homeless and Others in Need.

Thank you Cindy K for this thoughtful donation of crocheted hats and cotton washcloths.  As you can see, there are some nice solid colored hats, and some cute, smaller striped hats for younger heads.  She also included a good variety of colors with her cotton washcloths.

If you new to the blog, you may wonder why cotton (knit or crocheted) washcloths, they don't keep people warm.  Right you are, they don't.  But, they are used in a variety of ways.  When folks get a night off the streets in a shelter they often don't have anything in order to clean up, and knitted and cotton washcloths with personal care items really are appreciated.  They're used again when folks transition from shelter living to a permanent housing situation in welcome home packs.  In the welcome home packs, folks have the ability to use these as personal washcloths or dishcloths.  The other thing, you might not know is they are very soft, a bit easier on the skin then a traditional store bought washcloth.  When folks spend time outdoors their skin needs some extra care.  We supply shelters with these cotton cloths and we supply our friend, Rae who prepares meals on Sat am for those living out in the elements.   They too appreciate these little cotton washcloths.

Many thanks Cindy for your thoughtful and caring donation.  Please, keep up the good work.  Hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond helping Ohio's Homeless.

A Generous Donation for Ohio's Homeless

WOW!  Look at this awesome donation from our good friend and long time supporter, Sarah S.  LOVE the nice dark colors for that hats and scarves, and that you nicely tagged the hats with size.  Sarah has been busy, as you can see.  A nice pile of crocheted cotton washcloths also.  She's also included personal care items and some plastic containers that will help Rae when she prepares meals for those in need on Saturday mornings.

Many many thanks Sarah for your on going support of Bridge and Beyond.

Apologies for the delay in getting this posted.  I had posted the picture and numbers below right before heading out of town in order to write the post while away, and got locked out of my blog here on my ipad.  Took some doing going through multiple steps today in order to create a new password so I could get in.  Never had that happen with my blog before...a few other things when using the ipad,  somehow it seems more sensitive than my Windows Computer.  Or maybe it's going between different operating systems that causes the problems?

Keep up the good work, and many thanks Sarah S!!

Traveling Ghan Still in the Works

For lack of a better name (but would love someone to come up with a name) Traveling Ghan is getting there.  Started this afghan while on a road trip back in mid January.  As we were running out the door to begin our trip to Hilton Head, I realized I hadn't packed any yarn!  I know, "What was I thinking!".  So quickly grabbed 5 skeins of yarn I thought went together ok (light blue, sage green, gray, rosey pink, and goldish tan), and a long knitting needle and I was on my way.  Basic stripes, some knitted, some stockinette and some (minimal) slip stitch color works (see gray and pink AND gold and blue sections).  Started it in the car on the way down, worked on it there and on the return trip.
But, knitting a ghan is slow, so 2 weeks ago when I again hopped into the car to head to Hilton Head (for a Girls Week), I took Traveling Ghan with me again.  Thought I might run out of yarn, since I had no pattern and this is guestimation so grabbed the darker blue.  The darker blue section is the middle.  So, as you can see I'm now repeating as I make my way down the 2nd half.  AND this ghan will see more miles in the soon to be road trip, so it really is Traveling Ghan.  Can anyone think of a name that goes with the colors?

On the last road trip I also nabbed a few toiletries from the condo during Girls Week.

Stay tuned folks for donations from Cindy K, Dee Ann H, Sarah S, and Karen S.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
