Happy Thanksgiving

If you're traveling for the holiday, safe travels to you and yours.  I hope as you're letting the food digest today, you'll have yarn in hand busy working on something for someone else.  I'll be toting an afghan I'm working on to the family gathering and plan to work on it, after the feast...while others are watching football.  How about you?

Sneak preview (it's quite a bit larger than this now, just haven't taken a recent picture).

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving, a special day we set aside to feast and spend time with family.  It's taken on perhaps different meanings throughout our history, and within our families.  Giving thanks for bounty, giving thanks to God for our blessings, for making it through the difficulties of the frontier, for the help of friends.

Sharing an older family photo here, my Mother was still alive, my brothers and Father didn't have gray hair, a time when we were all younger.  Certainly for many, for many fortunate people they spend this special day with family, friends and other loved ones.  We pause and remember those no longer with us.

Many of us spend untold hours in the kitchen, preparing the feast, cooking more food then anyone can truly eat, certainly more then is healthy for us.  Many say they'll diet tomorrow, lol.   I wore my apron all day Tuesday as I made the traditional homemade egg noodles.

I had 4 of these smaller drying racks and one really large one, full.  Made 5 batches of them.  I make enough for the meal of 25-30 ish people.  The numbers vary year to year.  The family is now much larger then the older photo above.  I make enough for my Dad and two brothers to have a pouch for later with their left overs, and usually enough for us for down the road.

For many, the days involves lots of hours of football.  Though this is obviously a college game not a pro-game.

Whatever your family tradition or routine is on this special day of giving thanks for our many blessings, please remember those less fortunate.  Please remember the cold, hungry homeless whom aren't seated at a table with family and friends enjoying themselves in comfort.  I have so much to be greatful for, as do many of you reading this post; some don't...please keep them in your hearts and prayers.

I am thankful for so many things, too many too name.  I am thankful for all of you who knit, who crochet, who give of your time and energy to warm the cold homeless in need.  Bless you all!

Today is Thanksgiving.

Today is Thanksgiving, thought you all might enjoy this retro picture.  It put a smile on my face, hope it does you as well.  But, laughter aside as you all gather around the table with friends, family, loved ones; please remember those with less to be Thankful for.  Those we knit and crochet for, those without a roof over their heads, or those with temporary shelter housing, those looking for work, those trying to put their families back together.

We have much to be Thankful for, one of those things each other.  Because together, we're able to do something that matters, together, we're able to use our collective skills and aid those in need.

There are many things I'm grateful for, no doubt you all feel the same; but truly one of the things I'm grateful for is YOU!

Bridge and Beyond on Facebook

Are you on Facebook?  If so, have you joined our Bridge and Beyond Facebook Group there?
If not, please do.  Posts from here are linked there to aid you staying current with what's going on with Bridge and Beyond.  Thank you's and notices of donations received are also posted there.  When I can post there to let you know your donations arrived, I can do several at one time vs sending separate emails so it saves me time...let's you know sooner generally.  This blog will always be the primary source of information, items with their own tabs etc vs wading through posts there to find something; but..........it gives us another presence and helps build more awareness.

Visiting the blog, posting comments, visiting and posting and liking on facebook are all helpful and things you can do in between stitches...hint hint.  Some folks are on facebook who don't blog which also makes it helpful.

Are you a follower here on the blog?  If not, please become one; that's also helpful.

Please check the tabs for items you wish to make to be certain the item you make is an appropriate size, and color.  Remember pastels aren't a good idea, stay clear of white and ivory's tan's etc.  Is your fiber appropriate?  Anything requiring special attention ie. wool or specialty yarns that need special laundry instructions is a NO NO.  Is your item warm, solid without open airy stitches?  Remember, we're trying to keep people warm.  When in doubt, please ask.  Post a comment here on the blog, leave a note in the contact form, post a question on facebook, or email at sandycrochet@gmail.com.

Please check back, I'll be posting a bit of change for our working calendar with the coming year in mind.

The photo is one I've shared on facebook, so it's possible you've already seen it; but as it's seasonally appropriate and I'm not a fan of posts without pictures thought you all might enjoy this.  AND........if any of you make this for your Thanksgiving Meal, please let me know.  Take a photo, I'd love to post everyone's pictures.

I now return you to your yarn, hooks, and needles.

All donations regardless of size and number are valued. All donations are appreciated. The Power of One is awesome, and when we work together The Power of One becomes The Power of Many.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
