Crocheted Donations for the Homeless

Look at this nice variety of cotton washcloths crocheted and donated by Linda J.  Lots of different styles, colors, and sizes.  Such a useful item to help those under The Bridges as well as those in the various shelters.  These cloths are used in welcome packs  when someone exists shelter living and moves into permanent housing, they are used while living in shelters, they are used for dish cloths and washcloths and are always appreciated.

Linda has also included 2 scarves, and while many of us are hot currently, the cold fall followed by bitter winter will be here far too soon, so it's nice to be stocked up on these warm items.

Thank you Linda, please keep up the good work!@

Thank you Kathy B for this donation of yarn and supplies for plastic canvass.  I know the yarn will get used, it always does!  I'm in the process of checking at the shelters to see if they could use it for arts and crafts for the kids.
She's also donated 3 pieces of fleece that have several possibilities... keep checking back in to see what they turn into.  Shhhhhhhhhh...not telling.

Crocheted Donations From Texas Aid Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Linda J from Texas for this thoughtful donation of crocheted cotton washcloths, and scarves.  Sorry to see the color of the 2 scarves on the left isn't accurate.  They were a pretty light burgundy; but that was a dark spot in the basement when I took the photo.

Please keep up the good work Linda, and send us some of your warm Texas weather, please.  We've had a few nice days, but we also had snow just a few days ago........again!

Thank you Linda J from Texas for this thoughtful donation of crocheted cotton washcloths and scarves.  The washcloths are a variety of sizes and colors.  You may need to click to enlarge the picture folks, it wasn't very bright that day, as you can see by the barely noticeable light filtering through the window.

We use cotton cloths for several different types of donations.  They go to all the family shelters and to those living under the bridges.  They're used in the shelters both at the front and the back end of folks stays there.  Often when people first arrive they have nothing and so a hand made washcloth can feel pretty special for ones shower, particularly if they've been living on the streets.  They're used at the end of the stay of folks transition into permanent housing as both washcloths and dishcloths in the welcome home packs.  Welcome home packs are a started kit to help folks with necessary supplies as they start out in their living situation.

Cotton WashCloths Always Need at Family Shelters

Thank you Linda J for these crocheted cotton washcloths.  These are always a bit hit at all the family shelters we deliver our donations to.  Nice variety in size and designs.  People use them as washcloths, and as dishcloths.  They're used when people first come into the shelters and need so much, and they're used in moving out packages to aid them setting up housekeeping when they transition from shelter to permanent housing.

Please keep up the good work, Linda.

4 Crocheted scarves from Linda J. from Texas.  Many thanks Linda for your thoughtful donation.  4 People will be warmer.  You asked in your note accompanying your donation if we collected cotton dishcloths all year long...we collect cotton washcloths all year long.  Believe most of the time they are used with the personal care contributions vs dishcloths; but probably also for dishes when packed in the moving out kits from the various shelters.  There's a tab labeled cotton cloths that any updates will be posted to.

Thank you for your support.

The Square Root Helps the Homeless

Ok, maybe the math header, the square root is a bit much.  How could the square root help the homeless?  Well....squares do help the homeless.  Squares that are knitted, squares that are crocheted, squares that are solid, squares that have many colors all help the homeless.  They are joined together.  We all when people and things join together good things happen.  Linda J has a nice variety here of both knitted and crocheted squares that will be joined to make an afghan used to welcome someone home.  Being homeless is physically and mentally difficult.  Getting into a shelter is a relief, you have a roof over your head at least.......but, you're still homeless.  The various shelters, Homeless Families Foundation, The Family Shelter through Faith Mission, and the Family Shelter through the YWCA all work to get people back in their own homes.

Getting back into permanent, family style housing is something to be celebrated.  We donate afghans to say, "Welcome Home".  Congratulations on getting back into a family home, and best of luck for the future.  The shelters work to provide guidance and training needed to get families going again.

Donated squares help us do that.  We're currently providing afghans to Homeless Families Foundation through joining our squares together.  Click HERE, if you'd like to see some of the afghans made from our donated squares.  I'm hoping to get some additional photo's added to update the page, so please continue to check in.

Thank you Linda J, please keep up the good work.

Thank you Texas for your Donation

A new pair of helping hands from San Antonio, Texas.  Awesome.  Love having new folks and their helping hands join in to help care for Ohio's Homeless.  Linda J. has both knitted and crocheted items here in her donation.  Most of the squares are knitted corner to corner, though there are a few crocheted granny style squares too.  Believe the hat and scarf are both crocheted.

Thank you Linda J, hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.  Welcome to the group.  As a group, we accomplish so much.  Made 2 deliveries last week, and another 2 this am.  Though this post is written and scheduled, so by the time this post is read, perhaps other delivers will be made.

Hats, and Scarves and More for the Homeless

3 wonderful hats, and nice warm scarf and 4 cotton washcloths donated by Linda J from Texas. This is Linda's 2nd donation, though I still do not have an email addy for you Linda. PLEASE make contact by leaving a comment here, or emailing me at sandycrochet@gmail.com. I've looked high and low for you here on line and really need to have you make contact. Her donation included both knitted and crocheted items.

She's included some squares, these are wool. Linda I do have a few wool squares (plus yours from before) that will probably make 1 afghan. I really need to remind everyone that while I appreciate the donation, I really need squares to ONLY be washable acrylic or washable wool. The folks we donate to don't have means for drycleaning.

Various knitted squares, some sampler style and some corner to corner. Again I want to thank you for the donations, but would like to remind everyone that squares should only be mailed at the scheduled times. Please read details in the square tab above before knitting, crocheting, and mailing squares. Please and thanks!

Squares donated from Texas

These squares of various sizes and colors are knitted and donated by a Linda J. from San Antonio. I've not been able to make contact after searching long and hard through emails, facebook and other places. Have posted multiple times in hopes of obtaining your email addy. So, if you're out there, please make contact. I've tucked these squares away; they will be used; but as I'm concentrating on squares the same size (size and color and times to mail detailed in the squares tab), not for awhile.
These squares also from Linda J. are wool (thank you for including that note). Over time I've gotten a few wool squares and have kept them separate as the afghans donated are best made from washable acryclic/wool. Don't want to mix them up...that would be a problem for our folks when they try to laundered them to have some squares washable and others not.

Folks, I don't want to appear UN-gracious about donations; but please please put a note in your box so I can make contact. Many of you don't have your names in your emails so trying to search through emails is very labor intensive and time consuming. Likewise, every item we request has a tab, hat, mittens, scarves, squares, afghans, etc. In each tab are requirements for size and colors and yarn types. I really need to ask you all to read those before you mail donations, before you take time to make something. We want to be sure our items are well received.

If you have something you wish to donate that is not hand knit or crocheted, doesn't meet the guidelines in terms of colors or size etc. PLEASE make contact with me so we can chat about it. It saves you time, me time, and time at the receiving end of the large numbers of places we donate to.

Thanks!

Donation from The Lone Star State

Woot Woot, so much to get excited about today. I always get excited when we get new helping hands. Linda J. is in fact our newest pair of helping hands with this thoughtful donation of cotton washcloths and scarves. Nice big colorful cotton washcloths too. Some items are knitted, some are crocheted. Welcome Linda, we're thrilled to have you join us, and hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.

Linda hails from The Lone Star State, Texas. Another reason for my excitement this morning. We get to add another state to our map. PLEASE scroll down the blog and check our map out. We now have participation from 36 states, 72%!! Linda J. is our first pair of helping hands from the big state of Texas. Texas got it's nickname in a historic manner, and unlike many other states it's not really changed since 1836. There was 1 star on Republic of Texas Flag, thus the name. It's also unique in that it is represented in their state gem, flag, state seal, and quarter. Texas became the 28th state to join The United States in 1845.

My hero in my childhood was Davey Crockett and who can think of The Lone Star State without thinking about Davey Crockett and the Alamo? The Alamo in San Antonio was called Mission San Antonio de Valero.

****Comments are starting to dwindle again, so let me once again ask for you all (even non bloggers), to please visit, read, and comment. It helps the blogs placement with search engines, which in turns helps us be more visible to other pairs of helping hands. It's also nice to support each other with comments regarding each others hard work. Please don't be shy. There are many of you who've never left a comment. It's easy, simply type your comment, click the drop down box and select name and url. If you don't have a blog, leave the url space empty. Click publish.****

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
