Knitted Thanksgiving Afghan Travels to Ohio

Thank you Darling Daughter!  My Darling Daughter knitted this lapghan and brought it home in her suitcase when she visited for Thanksgiving!!  Love it.  Love the colors, so nice and soft made with Lion Brand Homespun.  Pink, Raspberry, Purple (sorta Heather), and a pretty green, though the picture isn't showing the colors very well.

This brings us one closer to our goal of matching last year.  We have about 35 days and need 29 afghans...can it happen?

Many thanks Darling Daughter, whomever gets this to snuggle up in will be thrilled.

Donations might become a Christmas Afghan

This red knitted strip (which I'm counting in the squares area), is being donated from my DD, Christine. She had some yarn left over and just felt like some knitting with nothing specific in mind. So she knitted until she ran out of yarn, figuring I could do something with it. Thank you darling daughter. Love you bunches!
Adding it to recently donated squares from Cheryl S...maybe it will become a Christmas Afghan? Hum....still thinking and need to look at all the other squares I have and see what might work. Rest assured, something will eventually pop into my brain.

Making a Christmas Ghan could be a wonderful item for Project Welcome Home for a family making the transition during the holiday season!

Colorful Blocks Afghan for Faith Mission

knitted afghan for Faith MissionWoot Woot! Another warm afghan for our folks in need at Faith Mission. If you've not read anything on this blog before you may not known, Mothers and Children live in temporary housing there at Faith Mission. These Women and Children have been homeless, they've been abused, and come to Faith Mission with very little. We're warming them physically with hats, mittens, scarves, and slippers. Beyond that we're warming them squares and afghans. In addition to the physical warm we provide, our hope is they'll have an afghan to take with them as a house warming gift when they leave their temporary housing situation and are phased backed into society in a more permanent way.

Through our program, "Give a Square" we collected squares both knitted and crocheted measuring from 7 to 10 inches during the months of November and December of 2010 and January of 2011. I've had fun designing afghans of all different sizes with these squares, and with squares I had on hand previously. The program will be activated again in the future, so feel free to continuing making squares to be ready when the call goes out to have them mailed, you'll be ready. Pictures of all ghans donated to date available by clicking on above Give a Square, as well as additional information.

The above ghan, "Colorful Blocks" was assembled from knitted squares donated by RoseMarie with sage green yarn donated by Darling Daughter, Christine. A team of 3.
close up of crocheted borderSorry this picture is a little blurry. Tried to get a close up for you of the border. This ghan measures 56 x 41. Believe color and size make it appropriate for a male or female teen, as well as adult female.

Stay tuned, as work continues on several other ghans.

Colorful Blocks for Faith Mission, stage 2

These 25 colorful knitted squares accompanied me this past weekend to and from St. Louis. You might remember this donation from Rose Marie HERE (though some of these colorful knitted squares came in her later donations too).
I've used her squares here and there making ghans for those abused and or homeless mothers and children and delivered them to Faith Mission. I made one entire ghan HERE of her burgundy and blue squares.

The sage green yarn used in the edging here is a gift from my DD, Christine. I was able to get all 25 squares edged on the return from ST. Louis trip, so they are now ready for stage 3 which is the assembly process. Stay tuned.

My car trip was a very productive one. On the way to St. Louis I worked on a Baby Blue Ghan for my nieces, soon to be born little one...you can check it out here.

**Pictures of all the ghans donated and those assembled thus far can be seen by clicking on the Give a Square Badge in the sidebar**

*****A few days left of Toasty Tootsie's, you can still read about it by clicking on the badge in the sidebar*****

Have you checked out the map at the bottom of the blog? Is your state listed? Please check the lists (both with and without blogs) in the sidebar to see if I have the state your from listed. If not, PLEASE send me an email or leave a comment here. Thanks

Completed Vacation Afghan for the Homeless

crocheted afghan Happy to say I was able to finish my DD (Christine's) Vacation Ghan. She was quite close to having it completed before she had to return from her visit. This ghan was made in strips, both vertical and horizontal. A variety of stitches were used included double crochet, v-stitch, single crochets, shells, and front post double crochet's. I love how well this turned out and am very proud of her.

close up of the borderI wrote down the measurements, but can't find my note. My memory is something around 54 x 72. Here's a close up of the edging. The edge is 4 rows, with the last row being shells giving it a scalloped edge.

Thank you DD for all your hard work during your vacation.

Vacation Ghan for Homeless

My darling daughter started this ghan over her Thanksgiving break when she came to visit for a few days, and picked it up again when she returned for Christmas. Thus my naming it, vacation ghan. She crocheted it in stripes using a variety of stitches. The variegated stripes are v-stitch, and the vertical stripes are a combination of double crochet (green), and shells with front post double crochet (cream, burgundy, and dusty rose).
ghan in progressWanted to show you her progress. Once she got the variegated stripes done she got the idea for the shells and began crocheting the vertical portion.
vacation ghan beginningShe made wonderful headway before she had to head back to St. Louis. I'll be finishing it up for her by joining the sections and completing the last section of shells, and doing something about a border.
ghan in progressWhat a wonderful way to spend one's vacation, making something for someone else. This ghan will go to Faith Mission.

Thank you darling daughter. Wish you could have stayed longer. Thank you for your thoughtful donation and giving your time.

Darling Daughters Donation

double knitted scarf
I LOVE this scarf. It's super thick and super warm and super big. My daughter knitted this scarf using 2 strands of yarn--homespun and Lite n Lofty on #15 knitting needles. It measures 82 inches long and is 7 inches wide. Someone will really be able to wrap up in this. Cover their neck and mouth/partial face. It's very soft and such fun colors.

Thanks bunches Darling Daughter. (I've added Christine to our list of team members without blogs).

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
