Kids Need You

KIDS...kids we don't know are in need.  Think of the children in your life, your own, your grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Think of the kids that live next door...their sweet faces could be here.  Kids of all ages, toddler to teen are cold and in need of our help.  We've just recently posted our totals for the year of 2013, and sadly our numbers of warm hats, scarves, mittens, and slippers are down from the preceding year.  We've had requests from several schools as well as shelters that they need help in supplying warm items for the kids in their care.

So, while the month of January is partly over, let's make the duration of the month and the month of February focus on kids in need.  We need warm knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, mittens, and slippers.  If you're able and want to make sweaters, and vests that would be awesome too.

Remember even a single hat will allow a school child to join his or her friends on the playground at school recess and not be singled out staying in due to lack of warm clothing when others are outside running and jumping as all children should be able to do.

  1. I AM SURPRISED. Would have thought that kids would be the first to be taken care of. So many of our donations in bright colors look to me to be childrens sizes. Will of course do what I can to help out. I guess the needy come in all sizes. Just went to a yarn sale yesterday. Can put that to good use. Thanks for the heads up! :+)

  2. Sorry to learn about so many kids that need items to stay warm. I have a skein of bright colors...so I now see a scarf for a child.

  3. Funny I always thought that making things for men was our biggest priority. Now it is children.... I will try to switch my focus as soon as I finish the mans hat which is now on my needles. Things are always changing just to keep me on my toes! Have a great day ladies!

  4. I thought the same thing you did Sally. My main reason for donating was to help the Bridge people. I guess we cant support everyone with a group as small as this one. I am sure alot of our ladies will work to keep the children warm. Am getting ahold of people to see if they will donate to the children. I think that we have to pick our battles rather then trying to send something to everyone. It is a job too large for the few of us.THAT OF COURSE IS JUST MY OPPINIION. Keep up the fight.

  5. Yes Marj...I agree with you. And I also think that no matter what we make there will be someone out there that needs it. So. Basically we just need to keep knitting and crocheting ....as long as it is a warm item. I have managed to find a friend that I have recruited to make some hats (didn't commit to a specific number) but at the time I told her men's hats.....I don't think Sandy will mind. I think if our group was bigger that would help. So I am going to keep talking it up!

  6. Thank you ladies for the visit and thoughtful comments. Right you all are, we do get a lot of items for kids, and I too am surprised by the need and the request/ but kids grow and so perhaps need items more often then adults do? At any rate, am pleased to see so many right on board with us. Good folks indeed here on Bridge and Beyond.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
