Keeping a Scarf in Place Helps you Stay WARM

Folks as the weather turns in many parts of our country thought sharing this would be a good idea.  You've seen folks constantly adjusting their scarves, flipping it back around their neck because it won't stay put.  I do something similar to do, but haven't seen a good photo or description to share.  If the scarf stays put, one is warmer....it's not just because it looks cool.  You do need a scarf of a good length to be able to do this...but thought you might like to give it a try.  Sandie P our good friend from Louisiana posted this awhile back on Facebook and I thought it worth sharing.

Speaking of scarves and a good length...........have you checked out the scarf tab?  PLEASE folks make sure your scarf meet the requirements for size, both in width and length.  Remember we do not make or donate scarves for toddlers.  Teens and adults need larger scarves then school age children.

Sunshine and Knitting Donated from Florida to Ohio

Thank you Sandra R from Florida for this awesome donation of knitted goodies.  AND for including the extra sunshine both are appreciated.  Folks we've had some dreary days so getting good pictures is becoming difficult.  Please click to enlarge so you can see all the wonderful things Sandra knitted and donated for our Ohio Homeless and others in need.  Mittens of varying sizes and colors always makes me clap...special thanks!  Lots of hats to fit lots of different sized heads.  Great color selection too.

Thank you Sandra for tagging all your goodies with size, well done indeed.

She's also included cowls plus a picture of how they can be worn.  Awesome idea.  Do check this out folks.  Cowls, gators, neck warmers...I never quite know what to call them, or if they are the same or different?  But, wanted you to see what she enclosed so took an additional picture.

Sandra knitted six of these.  I tried one one to get the idea...awesome.  I think I'm going to make a few copies to send along and to explain to the folks at the shelters so they know to tell folks they can wear them that way.  I'm not sure if they would know?  Have you all seen this idea?

Crocheted Donatons and Personal Care Items, Thank You

The coloring is off again today on this photo, but...I now know why.  This is my new camera and right after shooting this photo the message came on the battery was exhausted.  I get exhausted sometimes too, lol.  Anyway, it apparently was fading when the photo from yesterday was taken and I didn't realize the situation.  It's now being charged.  It's the first time since I got the new camera I've had to charge it so I didn't realize.  Love the camera.

Click to see the detail in the scarf our good friend, RoseMarie crocheted.  I love the texture!  Very pretty.  Someone's really going to love this hat and scarf set.  RoseMarie has also donated personal care items, and 3 crocheted cotton washcloths.

Many thanks RoseMarie for your on going support!  Keep up the good work.

Thank you Margaret E from Pennsylvania for this thoughtful donation.  Nice soft scarves and a couple of matching hats.  Nice for both the men and women in need.  Margaret is our newest pair of helping hands.  Thank you Margaret for joining us, it's greatly appreciated.

No sure why this photo is so dark, the room wasn't plus I lightened it a bit using the photo software here on the computer.  There are several shades of gray's above with the blue and gold.  The picture doesn't really show the colors well.

Welcome to the group, keep up the good work, hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond, Margaret E.

Donation Delivered to my Door to Help Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Blanca T for this thoughtful donation and a special thanks for taking the time to drop it off.  Sorry we weren't able to connect with our work schedules, perhaps next time.  I do so love to meet people face to face.  This is donations of crocheted goodies, personal care items, and tote bags.  There are zipper canvas bags, and draw strings which will be perfect for folks to keep their personal care items in.  AND look at the cute hats!  Was a dark dreary day when I took the photo folks so even though I lighten the picture using my software things don't show up as well as I would like.  Please click to enlarge the picture so you see what I'm talking about.

Slippers, hats, neck gators/cowls.  Thank you too Blanca for labeling the items with size....EVERYONE loves that.

Loomed Hats Help Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Ella G for this thoughtful donation of knitted hats.  Ella is our newest pair of helping hands.  Welcome to the group Ella, we hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond.  Ella knows about cold winters, she's from Michigan though attends school in San Diego.  Wow, talk about opposite weather conditions.

Folks tags are really nice.  When I receive donations without size, I have to guess what size you made, and after I guess and put it in the adult or teen or child bag for delivery....the volunteers at the other end have to guess again when they shelf items.  When you cast on, you know what size you're making, or intending to make so please end the guessing and tag your hats, mittens, and slippers.  Tags can be store bought...you can buy a whole bundle of those little white tags with string attached, the can be scraps of paper tied with yarn or pinned with safety pins.  The tags above are some sticky labels.  It's the first time I've seen these so someone who's used them a lot will have to fill us in about where to get them and or how well they work.

Donating Hats and Scarves Keep Ohio's Homeless Warm

Victoria P from Arizona....YOU get the aware for awesome tags.  I think if you all click to enlarge the picture, you'll see why I say that.  She's tagged the items with size (nudging you ALL to please please do that), and she indicates it's washable yarn.  Scarves don't need to be tagged with size and when donated it would be paired with the hat which is nicely sized...but truly a super job here.  Love the pattern/texture in the rose colored hat....very nice.

Donations for the Homeless to Welcome in September

Thank you Marie P from Tennessee from your donation of knitted hats and socks!  Very nice indeed.  Love the colors in the green hat towards the bottom of the picture.  Socks are always needed by all the shelters, as well as our men out on the street.  Please keep up the good work.  Always a pleasure to see you here on Bridge and Beyond.

Goodness, I can't believe today is September.  I for 1 am not at all happy about the quick passing of time, the beginning of fall.  Nope, not at all.  I know with fall here what lies ahead is a nasty winter.  I dislike winter more and more with each year I age, and I am ever grateful to have a roof over my head.

You all may have noticed it's been awhile since we've had a post every day, that's because donations are down.  Typically they do fall off during the summer months and I try to keep things active with other information here; but even with that this summer we had fairly large gaps of no new posts.  Hoping with Labor Day Weekend here, which signals for most of us back to school, end of summer, fall and football; that people will welcome yarn back into their daily activities.

I'd like to push once again for people to visit, to read, and to COMMENT.  Those are all things you can do even when time is short to knit or crochet.  It does indeed help the blog and it's placement.  If you don't comment, we don't know that you've visited, or read new information.  You do not need to be a blogger to comment.  You do not need to be computer savvy to leave a comment.  It's fast and it's easy.  PLEASE, take time to read the tabs of the items you're making so the items you make and donate comply with the guidelines.

Happy Labor Day one and all, if you're traveling be safe

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
