Cotton Washcloths for Ohio's Homeless

cotton wash clothsThank you minnisoda (Liz) from The Ville for these fabulous cotton washcloths. Some are knitted corner to corner, others knitted side to side, and others are crocheted. Look at the variety of styles and colors...soooooooo awesome. Beautifully made! I'm particularly fond of the mint green in the upper right...love that textured pattern.

I'll be making packages with some of the wonderful cloths that have been donated with soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste. These personal care packages are always so greatly appreciated and needed. I'll separate into male and female and the donations will go out to the ladies at Nancy Place (through Faith Mission), the men at Faith Mission, as well as our men under the various bridges that Rae and Toby feed on Sat. mornings.

Thank you all for your continued hard work and support. Every person, every item, and every single stitch DO MATTER.

Donating Hats for Homeless

loomed hatsSandie in warm Florda loves to knit (loom) hats and donate them for the cold in need homeless in Ohio, and I'm soooooooooo glad she does. Once again, she's made fabulous hats with such interesting color combinations. Thanks bunches Sandie. We've had another cold spell here, even though it's June we've hit record lows for this time of year so I know those living outdoors in the elements are still wearing hats and scarves at night.

5 more days for our June cotton cloth focus, then will swing into July which will focus on squares. Please check out the directions, working calendar, and frequently asked questions in the tabs across the top of the blog.

Crocheted Camo Squares

Darn, picture is a bit blurry. Click to enlarge so you can see the pinkish camo squares! How fun. I can see this already in a ghan. I believe with pink squares inbetween....and or increasing the size of these squares by adding before putting together?? My mind is already is gear about how to use these fun squares. Though, I must admit since I've been working on a ghan as a wedding present I'm behind in the edging and assembly process; but fear not. ALL your squares do get used. Niki at Butternut St sent along some odds and ends of yarn which I'll also put to good use. Thanks so much Niki for your donation.

Hey folks...we have 2 Niki's Nikki's now. Niki in Arizona and Nikki in Ohio. Both have blogs and are listed on the blog log.

Donating Crocheted Goodies is Love

You might now recognize her signature item...the crocheted flower with a button center. These darling scarf and hat sets will surely please the young girls. In addition to the 4 hats and scarves and 6 cotton cloths, RoseMarie donated some soap and shampoo. Fabulous, those will included in the personal care packages for Faith Mission.

Thanks again RoseMarie for your ongoing support of our cause.

Donate Cotton Wash Cloths for Homeless those in Need

cotton washclothsThank you Sally for your 5 cotton washcloths for our June focus, much appreciated. Three of them are knitted in the traditional corner to corner style and 2 are crocheted. These will go into personal care packages for our folks at Faith Mission. The mothers and their children living at Faith Mission have been abused and or homeless and this is temporary housing. Their needs are great. Additional will be supplying our men living under the bridges with personal care packages too.

The current plan is to divide by size and color and package with whatever personal care items have been donated, plus those I have on hand.

This focus of cotton washcloths will run til the end of this month.

There are 5 more days until the lucky winner will be announced for our Comment Contest. That lucky winner will receive a $40.00 shopping spree at JoAnns. As soon as the winner is announced I'll make contact for a mailing address for the gift card. Keep checking in. AND...you still have 5 more days to improve your chances at winning. Remember, the more you comment, the better your chances are.

Knitted Hats and Scarves for Ohio's Homeless

knitted hats and scarvesThank you fellow Ohioan Susan H for this thoughtful donation for our Homeless. Five knitted hats, and 5 knitted scarves, several are sets, all are wonderfully made. The light blue scarf on the left and the dark brown scarf on the right are 2 different stitches. If you click to enlarge you'll see an interesting design/pattern where the area that would go around the neck is like ribbing while the remainder of the scarf is wider with a different textured stitch. I've not seen this type of design before and wonder if it has a name? Anyone know?

I'm happy to say I've received lots of emails, posts here on the blog, and some notes over on Facebook regarding people busy making cotton washcloths for our June focus. YIPPEE! I love to see our monthly focus energize people into action. AND, this particular months focus has a special connection and need. If you read previously you may already know this, but we received a note from Faith Mission via Facebook that they are dangerously low on washcloths and personal care items, so our timing with this months focus is right on the mark folks. Keep busy your crochet hooks and knitting needles. Remember we need cloths large enough and appropriate colors for the men under the bridges, as well as The Mothers and their Children at Faith Mission.

Time's fast approaching for our comment contest...June 15th is the deadline, that's only 9 days from this post. Get busy and comment away on new and old posts, improve your chances to win the fabulous $40.00 Gift Card from JoAnns. What a fun filled shopping spree you can have with that.

Do you blog? Is your blog url listed on the blog log here? If not, please leave a comment with a link so I can add it. Is your state listed with your name on the blog log and or the list of non bloggers who donate? Still quite a few of you I need to know your state. Please please, leave a comment with the information so I can add it to the list and add to our map at the bottom of the page. It's been awhile since I've been able to add another state to our map. Would love to get that current, and would love to up our percentage of participation. Currently it's at 58% with 29 states represented.

June's focus is Cotton WashCloths

A short while ago I knitted a corner to corner camo cotton washcloth.
And then had fun with a yellow butterfly washcloth.
Got both at the ready and hope to make some more. What a perfect short term project, light weight for the hot seasons...throw it in your purse and work on it at lunch...and or in your brief case. Must be a true connection. I had decided we'd knit and crochet and donate these quite awhile ago; just wasn't sure which month. Then spoke with Rae who indicated she was going to have a need with the guys under The Bridge (s). Then several days ago a call went out on Facebook from Jennifer that Faith Mission was really in need.

Cotton and or cotton blend wash cloths. We knitters and crocheters know how much we like them, how nice they are on our skin; think of those living outdoors with weathered skin. They think they are special when they receive our hand knit and crocheted washcloths.

The mothers and kids at Faith Mission will know someone cares when they receive a pretty, cute, and special hand made cloth.

Get your hooks and needles going folks, this is the first time we've been asked to supply these, though we have in the past; the need right now is great. Let's flood them with soft, well made thoughtful knitted and crocheted washcloths.

11 more days of the comment contest, keep busy making comments and improve your chances to win a fun $40.00 shopping spree at JoAnn. The skies the limit.

Have you noticed the new tabs across the top of the blog, the working calendar for example? Please check it out.

Help from the state of Louisiana

crocheted scarfLong time supporter, and awesome crocheter, Sandie has crocheted and donated another awesome scarf for the homeless in need here in Ohio. Thank you much! Sandie's work is always very nice and I admire her long term dedication not to just this worthy cause; but others too.

This came during our May focus on scarves, so how perfect is that!

As you may already know, this is now June and we're focusing this month on cotton washcloths. Knitted and crocheted cotton washcloths for Men, Women, and Children. These cloths will be delivered to Faith Mission (both sides Nancy Place for the women and children, and the mens night by night shelter side), as well as our Men under The Bridges.

Interesting to note how our timing happens to match well with a request for washcloths and personal care items from Faith Mission. Just 2 days ago I received a notice on facebook that Faith Mission was extremely low and in need of personal care items.

June is a perfect time for these needed small projects, so please toss your hooks and or needles into your purse and or briefcase so you can do a row here and there. Please consider helping us spread the word by blogging about the need, talking to your friends-neighbors and family. Post on Rav forums, Facebook, and Tweet.

100% Cotton or a nice cotton blend; but please refrain from acrylic only. Thank you for all the work and support you all provide.

Sweet Softness for the Homeless

knitted childrens hatsSWEET...can you think of any better word to described these adorable pink children's hats? And look at the cute heart on the white and pink hat. Remember you can click any and all pictures on a blog to enlarge them and see them better. These fabulous hats are knitted and donated by our friend Louise out in California. Way to go Louise. As always, your work is fabulous. I asked her what yarn she used and she wasn't sure she remembered but listed 3, and from that I would guess she used a baby sport. You can feel them,...really you can...look at the picture and reach out. See what I mean. That's how soft and lovely they are.

May is now officially over, wow...where does the time go. So, since this is June we're now into our cotton cloths focus. If you've not been to the blog in awhile, please spend some time looking around, as I've added some new things. A working calendar which shows our focus for each month. For new folks, please please read the what you need to know tab across the top and then if you have questions email me.

We are still rollin along with our comment contest...you've got til June 15th to chat/comment your little heart out. Click in the sidebar or on top tab to read about it. Surely you want a chance to win a shopping spree at JoAnn's! Get busy folks, times ticking away.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
