Gloves and Hats, HATS and GLOVES!

gloves9 pairs of ladies gloves
loomed has1-25 loomed hats
knitted hats26-50 loomed hats
childrens gloves26 pairs of cute little gloves.

Are you guessing yet who this donation came from? If you've spent much time here, looking and reading, I bet you are. Yep, it's our good friend Frank The Luscious Loomer and his wonderful wife Karen. What a fantastic dynamic duo they make. Frank has been busy knitting his hats on his speedy looms again. Look at the colors!

The gloves, a surprise and a bonus with a fun story behind them. Frank and Karen were in need of boxes for packing things up to move. Finding some boxes they could use in a dumpster was nice; but they also found these lovely, never been worn gloves and greeting cards!! Someone must have cleaned house and dump them. So, being perfectly good; we will get them to cold hands in need. Many thanks Karen and Frank for taking the time to send these when you're obviously busy packing to move. Packing to move is not an easy job, pace yourself and don't over do.

Many thanks Karen and Frank for your ongoing support of the cause of warming the needy and homeless here in Central Ohio with your hand knitted items! We appreciate all your donations.

  2. pmsflowerlady, that's just the way I feel everytime I open a box or envelope with a thoughtful donation. I'm tired of hearing how bad people are, I think they're awesome, they do lots of good and I'm warmed everyday by that feeling!

  5. Wow! Such a nice variety of color here. I really must get out that loom. Sandy, mailed a scarf today. It is wool ease. I forgot to tag it. Sorry!

  6. The only expression I can make is WOW! I loom, too , and I know how many hours these hats represent. You guys are great. When I saw the gloves, I thought -- now how did they do THAT on the round loom?? This must have been a fun box to unpack, Sandy. Fuzzy hugs, Sandie in FL

  9. The dumpster was in an alley behind some stores. I guess one of the stores was getting rid of some gloves that didn't sell. Also there were 119 new Easter greeting cards and a new game of paddle ball in the box. Frank and I are very happy to be able to help people keep warm.

  10. Thanks Yvonne for the visit and comment, both are appreciated.

Karen, I wondered if that might be the case, how sad though that the store would just dump it vs trying to give it to someone. Had you not seen and rescued them, they would be in the land fill somewhere...

  12. It's nice to know someone else does The Dumpster Dive! As long as the Dumpster is not behind a food place, there's some interesting things in there.Sandie from FL

  14. What an awesome find! Sometimes it makes me wonder why people throw away the things they do. But then obviously it's so things can get to where they need to be. ;-)

Frank makes some beautiful hats too! :-)

  15. A sunny morning to all! Leader Sandy (there are so many of us Sandys on here!) can you tell us how the hats and such are distributed? Do you put them in a pile and let folks select one for themselves? Are they put in a packet? How does that work? I'm just trying to imagine who might select my favorite purple/lavender/blue/teal spirals.

  16. Depends Batflit61 on which location they go to. Initially I start dividing in my living room by adult male and female, kids-male and female. Then based on where I last delivered start bagging and labeling.

When items go to the 2 free clinics, typically I divide in order to give the same amount to each location. So if I have 4 pinks, I put 2 of each in each stack etc. Those generally are placed on a counter and or table at the clinic and after or before the appointment they are guided to it to make their selection.

If they go to Nancy Place at Faith Mission I try to label bags for women and children. The workers their (most of whom are volunteers) separate further. They know who's in need among their residence and deliver to them. Some are packaged for new folks coming in.

When items were delivered to the 2 schools, I think it was up to the teachers and principals, as they knew who was in need.

  17. I see! It's just a bit sad that all the heads never get covered..as many hats as we make, more are needed. But even one makes a difference, I think. Your mission is a good one, Sandy, and I'm proud to be able to help.

  18. Yes we don't get them all covered Sandie, but we get lots of them covered and word of the cause spreads daily due to the blog, facebook, twitter, ravelry and some other places. We do what we can, and we keep trying and WE ARE making a difference.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
