HATS, glorious Hats

50 Fabulous hats from our Dear Dear Frank and Karen. Look at the variety in colors. I've separated these in bags marked girls and boys to help when they're distributed at the clinics for those kids so in need (and their Moms). If you've not read about this before, Frank is Karen's husband (see link in sidebar to her wonderful blog). Frank is a luscious loomer. hehe Karen, tell Frank I just gave him a nickname. lol

You can see one of the smaller hats on Susie sitting next to our Stella who's modeling a multi-colored blue hat she was particularly fond of.

Thanks bunches Frank!

Humane Award

WOW... I am speechless at receiving this award from Mary Anne. This is very meaningful to me. I've posted it in the sidebar and will endeavor to pass this along a bit later. Scheduled this post and as you read it, I am out of town. Time perhaps will be better on my return.

I believe everyone who's knitted or crocheted a stitch should take a piece of this award, because this is indeed a group effort. So please pat yourselves on the back and feel free to post this on your blog with a link here so folks will know about it.

I will reserve passing this along to folks outside our group, to highlight them for a later date. I know there are many people doing good things. And again many thanks!

First Award!

Mary Anne at Starlight Blog gifted me this award way back in October of 2009. I didn't quite understand at the time and therefore didn't do anything with it. My apologies, because I did indeed appreciate receiving it; but didn't know it's meaning or the rules that were attached at the time. Found it a few days ago (this is a scheduled post); and wanted to post it.

In her post, Mary Anne indicates the award is for someone who writes from the heart. That's easy for me to do because you ALL inspire me in many ways. When you hear people say things are bad, people don't care, watch the news and see lots of negative things...YOU ALL prove to me each and everyday people are good, people are kind, and people do care! So please enjoy this award with me, as it's certainly a joint effort.

The rules say I'm to pay the award onto 7 bloggers who write from the heart, and list 10 honest things about me.

  1. I would rather blog then clean house
  2. I would rather watch a movie at home on TV then go out to the movies
  3. I love wine
  4. I'm not a morning person and like to sleep in and wake up slowly
  5. I like learning new things, but really didn't like school after junior high
  6. I'm not very impressed with fame, money, and material things
  7. I love walking through cemeteries, enjoy photographing gravestones; particularly old ones
  8. I'm not very adventurous with eating, no desire to eat things that Anthony Bourdain does on his show
  9. I don't like any reality TV shows
  10. I think I'm a good cook
Now, whom to pass this award onto? I don't believe I can pick among you team members and so will pass the award on, outside our circle of special knitters and crocheters to bloggers who blog from the heart. Gives us all a chance to see and read about non yarn things this way too.
  1. Positive Men, an interesting blogger with stories that you feel in your gut.
  2. The Way I See It, a blog about everyday life globally, very insightful
  3. Mind Your Own Business, a blog about family life
  4. EX Great Life, pick a topic...it's always something different to read about
  5. Comedy Plus, you just never know what you might read about
  6. A Second Cup, fun look at life as we age
  7. Serian Man A blogger who loves to write, he writes about love and life

Look at all the great knitted yummies from Trudy. Some pretty cute sets here, with matching scarves and hats, and the cute neck warmer and hat. Very nice Trudy. Kids are gonna love being warm and looking good!

The gold hat with the garter stitch at the bottom is darling, is that a pattern you can share?

Scarfin it up! With this donation of 30 scarves, I think we may need to add that word to the dictionary. Seriously, look at the fun designs and colors. Chris made 26 fleece scarves and 4 crocheted scarves. Chris is a friend of our Dear Beth (crochetprincess). What fun variety she found with her fleece. Stella is wrapped up in a super soft lavender crocheted scarf.

Thanks bunches Chris, wish you had a blog so we all could come visiting. I'll send along my thanks to Beth.

More Love from the Hook

pink hatcrochet hats and scarvescrocheting for the homeless
More Love from the Hook. Pouches and boxes from all around continue to prove to me how much love there is the hands of those who knit and crochet. Such a fantastic group of people. Here we have 2 more hat and scarf sets (blue and green--pink and blue), a rose and gold hat, darker navy scarf, and pink and rose hat from Trudy. Love how our numbers are climbing. Each represents another person touched by loving hands and warmed in a very special way.

More New Members!

Alma is a new member, and sent this donation in a week ago. It got mixed in the wrong folder on my computer and I just found it today. Sorry for the delay posting it. Welcome to the group and many thanks Alma. All items are crocheted. Not only is Alma new to our group, but she's new to blogging. Let's go visit and encourage her to blog and enjoy herself. Remember when we were new at blogging, trying to learn how things worked and excited to get comments. Spread The Bridge Love. I've added her to our blog log.

I'm in Love with my Mailman! lol

See why I'm in LOVE with my mailman? lol He brings me such wonderful packages from you all. This fabulous package is from a new member, Robbie. A great mix of crocheted and knitted items here. I believe the pink/purplish scarf is knitted while the other 3 look to be crocheted. The multi-colored blue hat Stella's sporting, the pink & gray, and the solid green hats are crocheted while the others are knitted. Look at those blue and white mittens! Oh my, what a labor that had to be. Beautiful. Both pairs of mittens are knitted.

Thank you Robbie for your donation. This donation brings our counts to:

Much excitement in the charity world

Folks donations are coming in daily. Many many thanks to all who crochet and or knit, who've helped to spread the word etc. I'm hearing from new helping hands which tells me the word of our need is getting out there. I can't tell you how pleased that makes me.

Still looking to connect with a Becky P, from I believe the state of Washington in order to say thanks. Her donation came, has been photographed etc, but I can't find whom she is to say thank you. Does anyone know her, have an email ady or blog url? Is she in one of your charity groups? Please let me know Her thoughtful donation is HERE.

**just found Becky P, she's bpeatknits from RAV, yippee, one mystery solved. (added her to our members list

crochet hatscrocheted hats
These 2 pictures are from someone in Thousand Oaks California. There is no name, no email ady, or blog url with this donation. The hats on the left are nice and thick, double yarn I think from the feel of it, and are crocheted. The items on and around Susie in the 2nd picture are also crocheted and will go to the clinic for younger kids. (the 2 small baby/infant hats will be passed along to the hospital, as babies aren't treated at the free clinic). Mia is our mystery person from Thousand Oaks, CA. Glad that's been solved. Thanks very much Mia for your donation.

PLEASE, a reminder folks to include your name, your email ady, and or blog url with your thoughtful donations. Some of you I know by blog nickname, some by email ady/avatars; and often folks use different names and ID's in a variety of charity groups. I want to properly thank and give credit to those helping hands; help me do that by including the information with your donation.

Hats and Scarves oh My

Welcome Trudy folks, she's one of our newer members. The gold hat is knitted and the other items are crocheted. Wish you could see the knitted hat better. Shoot, the picture didn't show up well. It had a nice design. I would re-photograph, but have already forwarded these items. I'm making deliveries more frequently right now because of the extreme temperatures, I want these folks to get warm items as quickly as humanely possible. The colors in the 2nd photo are a bit off, as the rose pink and green set is the same rose pink as in the other other picture. Photo's were taken with different light. And as you see, it made a difference.

Thanks bunches Trudy for these hats and scarf sets. They will be distributed at the clinic. Those kids/teens and their Mom's freeze and I know they'll be thrilled to have something warm to wear.

****Still wondering who Becky is, can anyone help?

Monday, January 11, 2010

Looking for Becky P, can you help?

Thank you Becky. Three cute knitted hats and a crocheted scarf. These will go to the clinic and keep some kids warm. I particularly like the larger of the 3 hats, such unusual yarn and colors. Does anyone know Becky? She didn't send her email, or her on blogger ID and I can't find an email from her to know whom she is to thank her. The note in the pouch was written with a fat marker and is hard to read/think it got smeared a bit. I believe Becky is from the state of Washington? I've looked through RAV members but haven't found her in the Bridge group there.

Hoping Becky see's this and lets me know whom or where she is.

Many thanks Becky.

Socks for cold feet

Deciding it was time to straighten and clean out my draws a bit. Did a couple of hubby's draws awhile back and never got around to doing mine. These 11 pair of socks were making my draw too crowded; so sending this in the next pouch for the ladies under the bridge.

Hoping to have some more scarves done in the near future.

What a haul!

The box from June M in Michigan overflowed! Socks always are needed (14) pairs, mittens (3), scarf (1), 5 sweatshirts, down type vest, 4 flannel shirts, 3 pr heavy hunting type socks, and 8 packages of soap wrap in a wash cloth in their own zip lock bag! I love the way you wrap those, sorry it doesn't show up real well in the photo. Very nice, personal care items are always in short supply. June you made my day and think how many people we can warm with your generous and thoughtful donation. It's so cold right now June I'm gonna rush this delivery; those folks under the bridge really really need these items.

Many thanks

Our first Hats in 2010

crocheted hats"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" . Thought of this today when my favorite mail carrier trudge through cold temperatures to deliver my package from Sandie. It was 13 today, damp, snow on the ground. Cold folks and that's an understatement. I didn't know until I looked up the quote today that it is actually not the creed/motto of the Post Office. I always thought it was. Learn new things every day.

Back to the business at hand, many thanks Sandie for these 3 super soft hats crocheted from more of that fun Moda Dea Tweedle Dee Yarn. These are sized nicely for those folks under the bridge, and given the blend of the yarn (80% acrylic, 16% wool and 4% other fibers) will be nice and warm. Thank you bunches!! How many hats can you get from a skein? I note 155 yards in the skein, nice size.

yarn cakesWanted to share this poem with you all. My SIL wrote this for me some time back and I really like it and thought I'd post so you all could enjoy. It so fits our cause.
-----

Give me a hook

And as least one skein

Don’t need a book

To begin the chain.

It might start from here

It might start from there

Our yarn makes warmth

With hats to wear.

Our yarn spreads love

To nameless faces

Our yarn is a gift

That goes many place.

We judge no one

By the lives they lead

Our yarn makes us humble

Humble indeed.

Thank you so much Jan for this very meaningful poem

Sandie's scarf is such a neat wave of color. It's soft, and will be warm; as she's used sc I believe. Shoot thought you might be able to see the label from the yarn, it's called Tweedle Dee. lol Shaded effect yarn by Moda Dea. If you've used Moda Dea before you know how soft it is, but you might not be familiar with this Tweedle Dee. I wasn't.

Scarves of Many Colors

When I laid these 10 crocheted scarves out to get a picture I thought of The Coat of Many Colors, so this posts is The Scarves of Many Colors. Two in each navy, pink, tan, and lavendar and 1 lighter blue and orange scarf. Thank you Karen V for your thoughtful donation. These scarves will be so appreciated.

I wanted to share with you something else I'm excited about. Karen tells me in her note that this donation is a result of others coming together. I've often posted about the many ways to help and this is a perfect example of just that. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Internation, Kappa Nu Chapter. The members in her chapter were looking for a service project and she told them about our cause. They donated money and or yarn so that Karen could crochet more scarves for our cause. Karen might be the only one in the group who crochets, but they too have help--giving her more ability to help us.

Thank you Karen

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
