Knitting and Crocheting for the Homeless

crocheted slippersSoooooooo many colors, and so many sizes of crocheted slippers. All 17 pairs of these donated by Ellee, our newest pair of helping hands here on Bridge and Beyond. Notice the yellow in the upper right corner are a pair of MaryJanes, the others are regular bootie style. These will be so well received by the children and their mothers houses temporarily at Faith Mission.
hand made scarvesI believe some of these scarves (9), may be woven? I think the bulk though are crocheted. Notice the matching set on the right, hat and scarf in a light blue...are they cute. Many thanks Ellee for your thoughtful donation. It's always wonderful to find new people to help us warm the cold homeless and those in need. We hope to see you often. Keep those hands, hooks and yarn busy.

  1. What a wonderful gift!

I plan on making a few scarves, maybe hats too, out of my stash of scraps. For the smaller balls of stash, I will do squares. You mention not to tie and cut, but to weave in ends (except for last tail). Do you mean to weave in end rather than tie, then cut the end after it's woven in? Not sure what you're asking.

And how long a tail do you want? You can leave a comment on my blog or email me at Ldyjarhead @ yahoo.com.

    Merry Christmas!

  2. What we don't want is yarn knotted and then cut without leaving a tail. You need the tail worked in except for the end. The problems arise when people knot and cut right after the knot. Hope that helps explain it. Yes cut after woven in. Using a knit isn't necessarily bad, it's just when it's a knot and cut immediately with no tail that you have the unraveling problem. A good tail is about 5 inches or so, thanks Marie Anne

  3. I always weave my ends in two or three times before cutting, so if I do that, is it ok to cut or do you still want a tail after all that? I've never had any of my things come unraveled.

If you don't want it cut, you want a 5" tail on everything with a tail, color changes and all?

  4. What a great project! Unfortunately I won't be able to make squares and mail them to you within 6 days, but I will watch your blog for future projects that I can contribute to. That's such a noble cause!
    Merry Christmas!

  5. Doris, we collect the hats, mittens, scarves, and slipper 365 days of the year, and the Give a Square program is being extended another month, until the end of January.

Thanks for your offer of help, it's needed and appreciated.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
