Need team members, help me warm the homeless in need! PLEASE

Temperatures drop around the country, Homelessness rising, and it's official...the country's in a recession. Help me reach out to the cold, hungry, homeless in Ohio's Capital City, Columbus. Rae (a friend of sister-in-laws from church), and 2 friends visit and feed a group of homeless folks under a bridge weekly. These folks are in need of warm items. The group, all adult--mostly men need hats, scarfs, gloves, and perhaps vests and sweaters. Put your knitting needles and crochet hooks to the cause. Help me help Rae warm these folks, it could be the difference between life and death during these cold winter months in Ohio.

There are some women living here also, but mostly men; and to date we're thankful there are no children.

NEED: Hats, scarfs, gloves..in adult sizes and colors mostly appropiate for men.

This blog will be dedicated to this cause. I will keep tallies here, show pictures of items donated here.

Please join the cause, please join the team.

Items can be sent to me. Contact me at sandycrochet@gmail.com for an address. Once I figure out how to make the blog a team/private thing, I'll add my address.

If you have the ability, vests and or sweaters would also be welcomed.

  1. I can post comments but still can't join as a subscriber to the blog. I can join as a follower though. I was there but took my name off until I see how things go. This is such a nice thing you are doing.

  2. Hi Sandy,

    You're on the right track.

What you want to do is go to your dashboard where it lists all of the blogs you belong to, and you'll see a "settings" link for this one. Click on that, then click on "permissions" and that is where it lets you have other people as "authors." You can set it up so that people have to ask you via e-mail for permission or however you want. Going to the blogspot help sites helped me a lot as I was learning the ropes.

  3. Ok...says I need people's emails to list them as authors. Working on it...at least people can leave comments now. Got that fixed.

  9. I thought I'd already left a comment here, but I see I didn't. Bad me. Since I'm re-reading the post, I see that you also take vests and sweaters. I had forgotten that. I've never done either, but always wanted to make a vest. A lot of things on my to-do list. Look at all you've accomplished since this first post!! Kudos!

  10. Wow, we really did start awhile ago. You tend to forget.

Decided not making it a team blog where people had to join was better, as so many of our helping hands aren't necessarily bloggers and the technical part of that might keep help away.

    Thanks Sandie

  11. It's nice to see how the project got started. I'm just here for the free yarn, lol. You've done some amazing work here, Sandy, and I'm proud to have helped.

  13. Oops! Sorry, Sandy! I think this project is wonderful. I'm starting to feel like God has put it on my heart to organize a crocheting group at my church that will meet monthly to make and donate items to different organizations. However, I'm a very busy mama with lots of things on my plate already, so for now, I am just adding different organizations and service project ideas to my favorites and praying it through before I take on such a commitment. (I've learned that not all of my "great" ideas are God's ideas! ;-) ) I'll add your ministry here too!

I should have put a link in my most recent post to the original...I was collecting preemie hats and blankets for out local NICU (Norton Suburban in Louisville, KY). My youngest son was there for 11 days a year ago.

    Blessings,
    Shanna

PLEASE leave your name and url, NOT a profile link, not a google or google plus. Only name and url will take me directly to your blog to return the favor of a comment.

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.

Where The People Who Donate Come From, is your state represented?
